Rolfslake’s Sunday Open 22nd January 2012.

The weather again makes fishing difficult down the lake.

John tells me that todays fishing was again affected with cold temperatures and a swirling wind which make pole fishing almost impossible but in first place today was lake regular Ian McCulloch.

Todays winner Ian McCulloch.

Ian today was fishing a combination of waggler and bomb from little used peg 25 on the car park bank, and Ian used pellet and corn to catch his carp and in the end put a hard earned 86-00 to not only win the match but also claim the peg king for this peg. In second place was lake owne John Bennett on motorway bank peg 13, and talking to John midway through the match he was complaining that the windy conditions made fishing the pole really hard but in the end he caught 2 carp on the pole and 3 on the tip for 52-04 with fish to 18-12.

Completing the frame and the only angler at Rolfslake who now has his post delivered to his peg was John Draper who again had drawn peg 9. John who also caught his first carp on the tip today caught the other two on the pole using corn hookbait and feeding pellet for his weight of 37-08 and an average of 12-08 a fish.

Results.

9 fished.

Place Angler Peg Weight Method
1st Ian McCulloch 25 86-00 Waggler/ Bomb Rolfslake
2nd John Bennett 13 52-04 Pole / Bomb Rolfslake
3rd John Draper 9 37-08 Pole / Bomb Rolfslake
4th Pete Arnold 16 29-00 Bomb Rolfslake
5th Martin Bainbridge 23 22-08 Bomb Rolfslake
6th Mark Smithe 14 15-12 Bomb Rolfslake

John has asked me to remind all the Pairs team that on the first day next Sunday they will need to pay for both the team entry and the daily pools.

Also from next Sunday the current lake rules of all fish over 10lb will need to be individually weighed and any fish over 10lb kept in keepnets will not count and any more than one 10lb fish kept in nets will disqualify that anglers weight.

Also the use of Marshmallows is now not allowed from immediate effect as it has been the cause of interferring with anglers fishing when they come off and float away taking the fish with them so please do not bring these to the lake.

John would also ask pairs teams captains to inform him if they are supplying their own reserves for the matches.

Thanks for reading Simon, John and Eddie

  • An idea i’ve had for the pairs league…..

I would like to run an individual leage which would run along side the pairs

based on section points, 5 for a win,or what ever it is

    drop worst 2 scores

£10 entry pay top 2 or 3 depending on interest, or even 4 if we get 20

I am willing to run it so it doesnt need anyone elses input

    Any ideas or comments welcome

Just thought it might give a bit of extra excitement or something to fish for if your partner is fishing like a cock lol

    • Andy, I think that’s a great idea. However after to speaking with Derek yesterday he’s not interested in fishing the pairs league if its going to be 4 sections of 5 (thats based on the 20 booked so far) and to be honest I have to agree. As this is a pairs match it should be 2 sections of 10 anglers, otherwise if you have a rotating 5 peg section (as mentioned by JB) and you draw a section of death you’re all bashing each other up thus leaving an advantage to the other three sections. If its two section of ten then (e.g.) finishing 5th isnt necessarly a bad result, however in a 5 peg section you’ve blown out, do that in two round and game over. Spoke to Phil Powell this morning and he agrees also, as myself Phil and Derek are doing the pegging we’re just trying to make it as fair as possible. Having said all of the above if we get 24 then we’ll have to have 3 sections of 8. Sections of 5/6 just isnt realistic IMO, what do you guys think?

      • hey up Steve

That makes sense, the only thing is how you incorporate the small lake

Realistically you only want to use 34, 2, and 7,

there isnt another peg in there thats worth putting your box on in winter

Anyway I trust you 3 will do whats best. It does need thinking about though as its not obvious

I assume you 2, phil and drawbag lane will enter my league?

        • Yes mate I’m in and I’m sure Derek will as well, thats assuming we’re fishing. I know what you mean about the small lake but it’s going to have to be in due to the numbers and giving everyone room. Speaking to Phil we were looking at pegging A Section as 34/35/37/2/4/7/8/9/10/13 that way 34/2 won’t dominate, you could argue that the best pegs in that section are 34/2/8/13 but you couldnt say which one would win as the others could throw up, as I said earlier by being a 10 peg section 4/5/6th in the section isnt a disaster especially if your partner finishes high in his section. As for B section possibly, 14/15/16/18/22/23/24/26/28/30, want to leave out 32 as this will interfere with pegs 8/9, lets be honest you could win off any of those pegs.

          • Steve, as an outsider not fishing the pairs (only as a spare), i can possibly see a problem with peg 2 being left on its own and not having anyone close to verify weighers.. cheers Neil

          • I was initially sceptical, but thinking about it, your probably right. With only 2 sections I can see 6-7 points getting you a top 3 place on the day. It isnt going to be a low scoring league and its wide open to teams having a proper blowout, imagine drawing 35 and 30, you could easily come last

it will be interesting if nothing else

however, please can I not draw 35 or 37 or I might have to drowned myself

            • No I wouldnt want to draw those pegs either, however they’ll have to be some crappers just to get the numbers in. We’re open to suggestions on the pegging but with regards to the small lake what else do you do? You got any suggestions Andy, and don’t say 40 either, that’ll be in over my dead body LOL……it’s match fishing after all, at least with more people per section it’ll mix it up a bit. Obviously this statement doesnt effect John Bennett or Mick Lane as they NEVER draw crap LOL

    • ha lol i think its a good idea but hopefuly bye the time comes i can get some more money together.
i can keep relying on me mum lol

  • Not a bad idea Andy it will tell who is the top individual angler, just run it by John first.

  • thats why i put it on here

I assumed youd be talking to him, can you talk to him

I would run it properly, update sheet at every match etc, everything accounted for

apart from my £50 admin fee lol 😉

  • Andy i have asked John and he is ok with you running an individual league as long as you sort it all out, so all systems go all you need is to do is get the anglers on board.

  • cheers.

can you pass it on to who ever you know. Not sure how many come on here.

    facebook?

  • I will post it on Wednesdays report.
All the anglers visit the site Andy so hopefully they will know before Sunday.

  • How will i catch now??…no marshmallows!…whatever next?… no sugar puffs?…….lol

  • ps you dont have to answer 2ce 🙂

  • Pullers are allowed Andy, obviously common sense prevails on this one with ligher elastics (white hydro/13h etc). Unlike some numpty who used red hydro through a puller sometime ago……kinda misses the point somewhat.

  • Looking forward to fishing this now. I prefer the section split as suggested and would agree with what pegs are suggested.

  • Phil Powell has just text me and he has confirmed with JB that we will be splitting it into two sections of 10 (20 Anglers) or 3 sections of 8 if 24 turn out. Let’s all have an input on the pegging on the morning of the match, that way nobody can complain about the pegging or the format of the sections so everyone is happy.

Scrap that it should read 2 Sections of 10/11/12 (dependant on final numbers) 3 sections would screw it right up.

  • I think the little lake is a killer however you peg it mate. My only suggestion would be to move 35 to 6 as least he might get some perch from under the tree

and move 37 to 38, although theyre both crap so dunno 🙂

as for giving everyone a chance to have input on the draw so noone can moan and everyones happy….LOL I admire your sense of hope.

Have EVER fished a match where everyones happy? Some peope would moan at pegging if it was a 1 peg rover lol

  • Steve, reply to him and mention the individual thing just so people are aware.

Pats going on wednesday so ill email him a poster to pin up with a few guidelines.

I thought it was a 7 match series but its 6

do you think dropping 2 scores from 6 is too many? I cant make my mind up, dropping 2 will make more people in with a shout, but dropping 1 could make it very interesting on last match if people draw crap

  • another person ive never seen on a bad peg…Neil

Everyone happy, yeah good point LOL. 37 for 38 makes sense although I know Phil would prefer 35 in as it’s slightly deeper water than other so does hold a few fish if its mega cold, maybe even nick a few fish from peg 34

  • pellet_king:

I think you missed someone off…
John Bennet, Mick Lane AND Derek Hammond
he is on a par with the big man upstairs!!

Good, I hope Derek keeps his drawing arm on then, because I cant draw a peg for toffee.

  • can i conferm that you have the royal oak down fishing a match on the 26th feb

  • all the best for the weekend everyone would like to fish but to many commitments heres an idea why not peg sections as follows a section 34 2 7 8 14 15 17 18 22 23 25 26 b section36 38 40 4 6 9 10 13 28 29 31 32 based on 24 fishing it stops pegs like 34 getting easy points

  • yes royal oak are booked on feb 26 confirmed
