Rolfslake night match 5th August 2011

New 2011 King of the lake in tonights night match.

With my last match for the next 4 weeks i was looking forwards to my continued battle with John Bennett and hopefully a good draw and obliging fish would make for an enjoyable evening. Unfortunately tonight attendance was low due to the start of the holiday season and as i arrived at the draw it was already agreed that we would all be fishing in the small lake and after everyone had had a stroke of Oliver the draw commenced.
As the usual suspects got in first with Mick Lane drawing peg 40 with the wind blowing in, returning bagger Jon Walker had drawn end peg 8, my adversery John Bennett was smiling with peg 4 and Chris Telling was opposite John on 38. It was decided that whoever drew pegs 40 and 2 could swap for 39 and 3 so Mick Lane stuck on 40 but Dave Howe swapped 2 for 3 with me finally drawing 5 so a quiet night was not on the cards.
The story of the match was for the first two hours it was slow with a few fish being caught but in the last 3 hours the big fish switched on and the fishing just got better and better with many anglers losing fish and getting broke on big fish.
In first place tonight was master bagger Jon Walker who after a very slow start by his standards got into his rythmm and by the end could not catch fish fast enough. Jon tonight fished 4 lines ,the far bank, down the middle the edge to his right and the bush to his left feeding pellet and fishing big punches of meat on the hook with all lines fished on the deck. Jon caught most of his fish from the bush to his left and even and managed to hook and play a pike of around  20lb which was foulhooked and broke him at the net

Jon had an amazing run of big fish as when i was recording my third weigher on the board Jon had none but when i went to record my fourth Jon had recorded his 10th and ended with 20 fish on the board for 274-00 and after another lengthy weigh-in Jon weighed a fantastic 383-00 and extended his king of the lake record by 20lb {very well done Jon}.

In second place and continuing his good run in the night matches was me Eddie aka the pirate on peg 5 one of only three  pegs i have never fished before and had a very nice yet frustrating match. I started on the long for me 11 metre line { as i always try to catch long whilst there is light to see my float } and caught three fish in the first hour but lost 4 then as it got dark i fished the same line as i would of if i had fished peg 6 a top two plus two just down the ledge and caught some big fish to 17-12 and towards the end went back to the long line using a fluro top Jon Walker paste float as i had been smashed twice and lost two JW glitter diamonds and could not stop getting bites. I was using a slight variation of my X4 paste mixed super soft and was getting brilliant bites with the pole being pulled round and in the end i also had 17 fish on the board for 177-00 and with my net fish had 218-08 for second for three night matches in a row, but most of all i kept John Bennett quiet all night.

Completing the frame was Vespe / Miracle baits sponsored Chris Telling on peg 38 who also started slowly  but towards the end was flying and from what i could see Chris was fishing a short line out in front and a much longer line towards peg 39 and Chris also had big fish and a PB carp of 19-08. Chris was using pellet fished on the deck to catch his carp and after 5 hours caught 162-04.

Results.

Oliver the dog has more bites than John in tonights match.

As for my battle with John you will realise that for ever point John gains i pull one back in the night match.

John was fishing peg 4 tonight and all i could hear was shouting and swearing as he got broke and lost fish on a regular basis and he only could catch on a short line straight in front as ever time he went down the edge he lost a fish which got him very frustrated and after 5 hours could only put together 79-12 for 6th place.

The three good things for me tonight was beating John, framing and collecting money and bagging all the Cartel members in one match.

The score between me and John now stands at

JOHN 7 —————— EDDIE 6

Simon and I are now embarking on our holidays and a busy time at work so i would like to ask our visitors to be patient with the results as we will get them on at the first opportunity as Simon is on Holiday and I go on holiday Sunday for two weeks to Spain.

Until our next report thanks for reading Simon, Eddie and John.

  • Well done, Mr. Walker. Only one(?) fish off a quadaton. A cracking evenings fishing.
Congrats to Eddie on stiffing the Cartel in one Broadside! Keeping John quiet all night is never an easy thing to do. I suspect you will enjoy your Hols even moe now.
I’m looking forwards to tomorrows visit even more now.

  • Superb effort John… Is peg 8 stuck to your fingers?..lol….no seriously….top performance

  • Well done Jon, a great weight by a greater angler!!

  • Well done Jon you gave me something to aim for. Another superb big weight only a few anglers catch 300lb and you have 2 this year great effort.
Also anyone looking for super strong great looking floats see Jon’s new range of floats they are brilliant.

  • Well done also to Chris my paste coach and for a change the apprentice beat the superstar master but only just. Well done on your PB carp ,you will have to teach me how to catch the big carp.
Vespe hollow elastic is brilliant but for the second time I have been struggling subduing the really big carp but god it gets your pulse racing when you hook a few in the dark.

    • You’ve got to fill it in Eddie! I watched Chris fed something like 7 pots of bait in the first 90 mins of the match.

That’s about a bag and a half. God knows how much he used in 5 hours!

  • Mr Walker is unbelievable, what a performance!

Andy Rayment and I watched the first 90 minutes of this match as we were bagging on pegs 7 and 8 before the match started and I think when we left Jon had only four or five carp to his name so the remaining 350lb was caught in 3 and a half hours….. incredible. This weight will not be beaten this year in my view.

Jon, I take my hat off to you.

  • Even I would fancy my chances at topping peg 1!
