Rolfs Lake Night Match. Fri 20th June. 2014

A night match where the end peg does not win.

Tonight there was a low attendance of anglers fishing the night match but with warm weather and no rain expected at least there were going to be a few bites around to keep you awake. It was decided by John to fish the small lake only so most of the anglers wanted either pegs 34,7 or 8 as there were lots of fish in these areas unlike pegs 40 and 2 which were covered in the white cotton wool that had fallen off the polular trees which would make fishing difficult.

The story of the match was in the first two hours drawbags John Bennett and Andy Rayment were hooking a fish a cast on pegs 7 and 8 but losing just as many and Dave Howe on little used peg 36 was quietly putting fish on a regular basis into his net. Kev Dolton on Peg 38 started slowly but as darkness fell i could tell he was losing fish due to the language that was coming from his peg which was only equalled by my own frustration on peg 40 as the cotton wool totally covered my peg making fishing super difficult.

After about 3 hours i could tell John was catching as his bite indicator or Olly the dog started barking and carried on for the rest of the match which at 11 O’clock at night seems very loud but as i turned around to face peg 4 i could see in the dark that Ernie Malyon on peg 5 was sneaking a few fish out and he eventually would turn out to be the winner.

Ernie started fishing at 13 metres coming back to 4 metres and started off by catching a few carp and a lot of bream all 20 of them and then targeted the carp but if he had stayed on the bream he was sure he could of topped the 100lb of silvers as he caught 64lb of bream in the first 2 and a half hours to go with the 123lb of carp giving him a total of 187-04 and another win down the lake.

Second was John Bennett with 175-04 and third was Andy Rayment with 140-15 and between them they estimated they must of hooked and lost 1000lb of foul hooked carp { how sad for them }.

The next night match is on the 4th July which is nearly sold out as there are only two places left and after that there is only two i believe after that.

The night was topped off with Pauline preparing some food after the match which was much appreciated by the anglers.

Tonights winner Ernie from peg 5.

Jinx Night Match 10th May 2013.

20120908_170548

Micheal Corsini the Prince of darkness comes good.

New King of the lake comes from the first night match of the year.

Tonight saw the first night match of the year which i was greatfull to get an invite { thanks Malc} which normally starts of the Jinx League series for the year. Todays weather started fairly warm getting overcast as the match went on ant the obligatory rain being followed by the temperature getting much colder by the end, and it was decided that the match would be fished in the small lake due to only having one generator to run the lights.

There was a rolling draw at 4 with a 7 o’clock start time fishing till midnight so plenty of time to set up for the anglers that had got to the lake early and i had to change my having the last peg in the bag as the last angler Malc did not turn up till 8 so on putting my hand in the bag i drew end peg 32 which i had not drawn for a couple of years so at least a short walk to my peg. Today also saw a return to Rolfslake of last years star angler Simon Mound who had come with Gemma and little Caitlin and Simon drew peg 18 also an end peg but with the wind blowing out from this area of the lake.

Some of the other anglers today had drawn challenging pegs most notably Neil Riddy who had drawn peg 11 in no carp bay but with also pegs 10 and 13 in was going to find this most difficult but for others it was flyers as usual especially Micheal Corsini who had drawn peg 9 and he was going to be my banter for the evening.

At 7 the all in was called and within three minutes i had caught the first carp of the match which was greeted by John Bennett giving the rest of the anglers a running commentary of who was catching which after half of an hour was most anglers. Micheal on peg 9 was in to fish on a regular basis and even Neil on carpless peg 11 had caught one so things were looking good. At 9 John put the light on due to a darkening sky and by 10.30 it was totally dark and also the motorway got quieter so it was a case of trying to get the fish to come close which most anglers did.

In first place was Micheal Corsini on peg 9 who gave a great demonstrating of fishing at short range towards the bush to his right as that bush was alive with fish but you still have to catch them which Micheal certainly did as fish after fish came to his landing net. Micheal used pellet hookbait feeding pellet to come the fish coming and he also had a run of big fish { Micheal had 24 weighers for 274lb on the board } but also got broke by a few fish which stopped him catching 400lb but after 5 hours put a fantastic weight of 364-14 to not only win but take the current king of the lake off Pete Archer and claim peg king for peg 9 { very well done Micheal }.

Mike

King of the lake Micheal Corsini.

In second place and a long way back was me Eddie who was also fishing the other end peg peg 32 but a distraction of chasing swirling fish down the edge cost me about an hour of only catching 3 fish when i should of been fishing my paste line as it was solid. I was fishing at 8 meters to my left just down the slope in the gap between the big and small lake and by using paste i had real quality bites and got smashed 3 times by real big fish but had to settle for my final weight of 260-05.

After Micheal the top performance of the night goes to Neil Riddy who was fishing no carp bay peg 11 and by fishing 3- 4 metres straight in front caught a great stamp of fish to 19lb and as i looked up from time to time i could see Neil going to the scales with another big fish and his board weight went 180lb plus and when added to his net fish went 208-10. Neil fished pellet and meat feeding pellet to not only catch the top weight from this peg for years but also claim the peg king for pwg 11 and show other anglers how good this peg can be.

Mick Jones with his first ever 20lb’er from the lake. Well done Mick

The anglers thouroughly enjoyed the experience of night fishing which is very kindly organised by John Bennett and just goes to show how good the fishing can be at Rolfslake.
