Rolfslake Wednesday Open 7th May 2014
Rolfslake the tackle graveyard just keeps on taking.
With the big fish making a regular appearance at Rolfslake the one thing that i have learnt is making sure your tackle is up to the job as in the the last two matches there have been 5 top kits destroyed with another top kit smashed today plus two number fours as the big 20lb plus carp lay in wait.
Today the match was based in the big lake with the anglers split into two sections the first was pegs 9,10,13,28,30 and 32 with the second section being 14,16,18 22,24 and 26 so the angler set about trying to win their section and hopefully some money. With the wind blowing hard into the car park bank most anglers wanted either pegs 32,9 or 13 but not the dreaded peg 10 aka no carp bay as it has not won a match for a very long time and the unlucky / lucky angler to draw this peg was serial drawbag Pete Archer.
The story of the match was as usual it was a slow start with Kev Dolton and Andy Rayment catching a few fish to start with with Pat on peg 9 having a very frustrating day playing tug of war with the fish in the bush on peg 9 which eventually cost him a few smashed rigs and two broken number fours making it an expensive day for him. At our end of the lake only Mick Jones was catching the odd few fish at the start mainly bream but they disappeared very quickly leaving him long periods without any fish.
Andy Quarmby on peg 14 was having a very quiet day and spent the last half walking around watching the rest of the anglers catching and losing fish so he was one less to worry about in B section.
The winner today was amazingly Pete Archer on peg 10 in no carp bay who after persisting fishing long with not much reward set about fishing to his left hand edge as he could see a few fish swirling and by fishing the top three of his pole set about putting a big weight together. Pete fished with pellet hookbait feeding pellet to catch big carp to upper doubles in his weight of 225-15 but it did cost him a top kit which i could hear break from the other side of the lake { well done Pete }.
In a close battle for second overall it was between Kev Dolton on peg 32 and Paul Jay on peg 28 which would eventually be won by Kev by one fish or 13lb by Rolfslake standards as his weight beat Paul’s by 173-11 to 160-08 to claim second in the match leaving Paul to win the section by default.
The winner of C section was Toby Pope who had a late run of carp in the match by fishing long down the edge towards peg 15’s platform catching big carp in his weight of 130-08.

The Pirate wins the battle of Terret Twins.
With John and I drawn next to each other it was never going to be a quiet match and with both of us struggling to put any fish in quantities in the net it was always going to be a last hour and a half race when the fishing gets stronger. The most frustrating thing at this time is with the amount of fish that come down the edge you are always going to foul hook a few and both John and I were heard cursing after each lost fish but what did it for John was when i landed a fish of 16-08 to beat him by just 15 ounces on the bell.
The score now stands at
John 5
Eddie 5
Thaks for reading John, Simon and Eddie.
Nice report ed.
I hope someone’s removed pats shoelaces from him lol!!!
Fancy turning up to rolfs without a margin pole or even any red hydro. Doh!
Twas a rather frustrating day for me. Early on there seemed to be plenty about shallow then vanished along with my early Bream.
Fluffy stuff on the water clogging up the bomb rod tip.
But it was amusing listening to the ETG-JB mutual abuse Society having a good airing!
Excellent effort of Peg 10 Pete.
Hope the Jinxsters have a good weekend.
See you next Weds.
Like I said on Wednesday, I am getting the no 4 fixed on my margin pole hence why I didn’t take it
Orange vespe is the same as red hydro and thats what I used.
