Rolfslake Wednesday Open 5th March 2014.
Bites galore down the lake as the Silver fish match record is broken.
John tells me that today the pleasure anglers were bagging in the small lake as the carp finally decided to have a proper feed as between them they caught over 30 carp and a few doubles included.
Most of the carp came from peg 38 with the angler there catching 18 carp and Taff also caught 9 carp leaving the rest still catching a few so things are finally starting to happen in the long run up to the Easter festival.
In the big lake it was a different matter as i believe the water is currently too deep and cold for the fish to feed properly but the silver fishing is fantastic at the moment with plenty of bites and some really big roach and perch coming to both maggots and casters and both Mick Jones who caught over 24lb of silvers and Pat Pritchard who had a great all silvers catch of 28-07 were kept busy with lots of bites to come 2nd and 3rd in the match .
The big surprise was with Steve Wilson who was fishing peg 32 by the hut and when it was his time to weigh in he needed help to bring out one of his nets which normally means alot of carp but when the net was clear of the water the anglers were gobsmacked when it was full of bream all 80-02 of them. Steve was fishing down the track towards peg 8 and was fishing with 8mm hookbait feeding pellet to catch his bream. John tells me the amazing thing was Steve also spent a while fishing the tip and when he went back on the pole the bream were still there so he thinks a 100lb weight of silvers could of been on today. Together with his carp Steve weighed in 84-11 for not only the match win but to also claim the top weight of silvers caught in a match down the lake { very well done Steve }.

Thanks for reading John, Simon and Eddie.
Well done Steve a lovely net of bream.
Shame there were no photos took.
Steves net of Bream was special, plenty of 3-4lbers in there.
Think we forgot abot taking a photo as we were all too busy admiring the fish. Excellent effort Steve.
It was a lovely day at the lake and I’m looking forward to being back again next Weds (just cant seem to make my mind up as to whether I should have a final bash at 30lb of Silvers or not.) I spent tooo much time flaffing about in the first hour and a half yesterday, got some good Roach coming in the last hour on Caster but that Silver scoundrel Pat done me fair and square on our quid silvers side bet.
It was still a great effort Mick.
Not sure there are many venues that you can weigh 20 lb of silvers and come nowhere in a silvers match.
Just think where have that bream shoal been hiding and just how many where there.
Just had a look at the weather forcast for next Wednesday.
15 degrees of lovely sunshine, Silvers sacking here I come!
Might have to order a few more caster though, nearly ran out this week.
Double or quits Mick ???
Morning, Pat.
I’ve just ordered extra Caster so your on.
A couple of rigs need retying due to wire stems bending (sodding things!) then I will be ready to whip again.
Lol fishing for silvers when it’s 15oC has someone been putting something illegal in your fags mick?? Lol
30lb of Silvers is one of my 2014 targets. gotta do it sooner or later.
Once I think I got 30lb I can look for Carps in the last 2 hours!
Weather forecast I’ve just seen for Wednesday is 12 degrees with a chilly wind from the east.
come on Mick its easy even a I managed it 😛
feed MORE bait. 4 pints of maggots minimum and lash em in
empty it shallow last 2 hours
We cant all go to Pans and blag left over bait!
lol
See Paul Jay he’s probably got 5 gallon on him
He seems to like collecting them up so they can all escape or turn to floaters before they can be used!
Carp all the way Mick.
