Rolfslake Wednesday Open 12th May 2010.

With the weather at the lake today being a mixture of sun and cold { if you were on the car park bank ] the anglers were hoping that the good run of weights would continue in todays open.

As i was unable to fish due to work, John tells me that after the draw was made the anglers made their way to their pegs hoping that the cold temperatures in the preceeding days would not affect the fishing today. All i can say about todays match as i arrived at 5.30 to see the end of the match, was that in first place was Paul Jay who was fishing peg 9 on the motorway bank. Paul today was fishing down the edge to his right along the big bush at a range of about 6 to 7 metres, and by fishing banded pellet Paul was able to catch fish to double figures. By lifting and dropping his rig Paul kept a steady run of fish visiting his keepnet and if he had started the match fishing the bush instead of spending the first two hours on the waggler he would of put a massive weight on board but instead had to settle for 216-12 {well done Paul }.

In second place was Bag-up angling sponsored angler Gary Haismanwho had a very enjoyable day fishing short range on peg 18 in the top corner of the big lake. Gary used pellet as hook bait and was rewarded with also fish to double figures and he also lost a few fish from where i was watching as they made their way under the bush on peg 17 and after 5 hours put 176-00 on the scales. Completing the frame was Pat Pritchard on peg 32 ,and Pat fished in front of the platform on peg 33 and fishing on the deck using pellet was able to catch fish to 13lb in his final weight of 169-00.

My expectations for the next few weeks are that if it keeps warm there will be an opportunity for an angler or two to break the 300lb barrier or maybe the 400lb. As paste has been putting a few big weights together it is still not the right time as paste usually comes good from the first week of June right through to the end of September, and with some great paste anglers down the lake there will be at least a few great matches between these anglers.

The next few weeks will be busy down on the lake with the Jinx league series starting Saturday followed by the Match Fishing Scene 3 day festival and then the Bank holiday Monday open. In between these are the regular Wednesday opens and the club matches so there will be plenty of anglers enjoying what will be a good time for big match weights.

On a side story Rolfslake’s new bay is doing very well and is getting bigger by the week and after getting a shock from the stun fence . The baby is a little horse in the next field and can be seen with its mum which looks like a Shire horse and is very big, but please do not call it as it is still a little wobbly on its legs .

Rolfslake welcomes this Saturday the Jinx League for the first match of their 6 match series to be held at Rolfslake, and as usual i am sure all the travelling anglers will have a great time and will be fishing their hearts out to ensure that Gemma Doyle {the Minx } does not bag her usual bunch of victims.

If anyone does get beat which is normally called a Minxing they will run the risk of being chosen to wear the pink fluffy cow boy hat for the next match, much to the amusement of the rest of the anglers. I hope to get down to the lake to see my fellow web pal Simon and take some photo’s and say hello to my friends that i have made over the last few years.
