Rolfslake Sunday Open 12th January 2014
Tough day at the office.
Today saw 7 anglers arrive ready to fish a full to the brim Rolfslake and the reason the lake had not flooded was to the stirling work done by lake owner John Bennett in controlling the water level.
With most anglers having to fish on the upper platform as the lower ones were well under water most anglers opted to fish the bomb or short pole as there was a horrid swirling wind at long pole distance. Todays winner was Wayne Parker who opted to do neither and fish the top two as there was a very good depth by the platform and by fishing caster Wayne caught a very good stamp of roach and perch during the 5 hours which boosted his weight to 24-03 well done Wayne.
Today the carp we very few and far between with only 3 caught with 1 each for John B , Paul and Neil which still were not enough to beat Wayne.

John B gains the first point of the year against the Pirate.
After our battle last year which saw John come out the victor with his 17 to 12 wins { very well done John } we started our competition alot earlier than last year .
Todays match was decided on the lucky carp John caught in the first half an hour which weighed 6-08 out of his 8-13 total whilst i was plagued by tiny roach whilst a few others caught the bigger ones. When i brought my net out it looked like a sardine net with lots of tiny fish but to no avail as they only went 5-07.
The score stands at
John 1
Eddie 0
Thanks for reading John , Simon and Eddie.
Well done, Wayne.
Eddie, pull your socks up your behind JB already!
Looking forward to Sundays match, Caster on order and whips at the ready.
Good start to the year Pirate Eddie. Captain Bennett must have been peeing himself 😀
Lucky John he had 1 carp for 6-08 and 2-05 of bits whilst I worked hard for my 5-07 of tiny roach gutted.
Hi, Eddie.
I suspect youwere on the maggot?
Caster for the better Roach.
Maybe see you this Sunday.
24lb of roach is a cracking days fishing. Well done Wayne
Nice net of Silvers, Wayne.
Looks like a few good Perch too.
proper net of fish Mick you’d be happiest man in Oxford with that on your whip
Got the bug to go back after seeing that net
Hi, Andy. Hope your keeping weel.
Did 25lb 10oz New Years Day, Mr Whippy had a field day!
Er Eddie you were on the end peg and still got bashed up by JB
Ebay.com?
I think JC was end peg on 22.
Get back to Spec Savers and ask for a refund!
lol how did I miss that 😛
I have x2 whips at the ready for Sunday, hope no one notices!
is it teams of 3 Mick?
no andy it is a straight forward open match, I cancelled the spring league due to lack or interest, some absolute cracking perch and roach coming out at the moment, come on down and have a go
you know what. I may very well do that!
what time is the draw?
Morning, Andy.
According to the information banner Draw time is 9.30, fish 10.30 – 3.30.
oh man, a lay in! thats unheard of
that seals the deal for me i’m IN
fancy a quid side bit on a silvers match Mick?
I’m happy to take you Christmas money from you, Andy.
But to be fair you have to fish 16m to hand!
Its come mild again so I bet the pesky carp smash us up sadly!
how far did you fish on ny.day
4m to hand?
4M is a bit long distance for me, 3m is ample. Just over the shelf (I like that distance as I dont need my glasses on and the rain doesn’t blur my line of sight!)
do you fish off the end of the trees on the car park bank. I guess its probably 7 foot there at moment. perfect for mr perchy to stick his head out
Hope we dont get too much more rain or we could be fishing FROM the trees on car park bank!
I reckon Mr. Perch zips along the shelf bullying the poor old Roach when we get ’em going.
sunday it gonna lash down sadly
maggots will be crawling away
BBC weather site forecasting Oxford area bright & breezy with scattered showers.
Not bad considering this time last year we were under a foot of snow!
Use the old trick of a bait box with a hole cut in the lid to stop the mags from crawling off and self feeding yer swim.
ah yes, but they float 😛
and floating baits are not allowed.
Hemp and caster it is then.
Mick…. Are you going to a tackle shop before sunday? 🙂 (I need some maggots)
How many of what would you like? I dont charge for delivery.
Or I could let you have 3 or 4 of mine (for a price of course!)
just want a pint Mick
Ive got some but they arent the best
Paul Jay usually has a gallon of old mags but itll be sods law ill turn up and he wont have any lol
Reds, whites or a bit of both?
No squatt available.
bit of both please Mick
Hoping squatts wont be needed…
Hopefully I will remember to get them, wouldn’t want to beat you cos you got no bait!
Definitely need maggots Andy 1 for roach 3 for the perch i even caught a chub after the match on 22 in the cut back on the right.
Should have added the Chub to your match weight and claimed a rewEIGH to beat JB.
May be see you Sunday, Eddie?
