Rolfslake rover match 20th July 2013.

Hot weather slows the fishing down.

Today saw a small attendance down the lake so it was decided to have a walk off match which gave the anglers a choice of any peg around the lake so the anglers were spoilt for choice with 3 fishing the big lake and 4 fishing the small lake so after 5 hours we would see who got it right,

The weather was very warm and bright turning cooler as the match went on and with lots of cruising fish it was quickly evident that it was going to be a tough day trying to get the fish to feed. The one angler to have some success today was Mick Jones who selected peg 16 in the big lake and by fishing his usual meat hookbait feeding pellet Mick managed to catch about 15 carp to double figures. Mick avoided the cruising carp by fishing the bomb and tea bag to catch his carp and after 5 hours put the only ton weight on the scales with 105-07 { well done Mick }.

Breaking news Mick Jones failed in his record attempt to draw Peg 10 5 matches in a row and could not hide his disapointment.

Todays winner Mick Jones.

The close battle for second was won by Malc Doyle on peg 25 with his weight of 73-06 to Chris Lovelock fishing peg 9’s weight of 69-05.

After the match both John and myself carried on fishing as we were convinced there were still fish to be caught and in an hour and a half John caught 12 carp to double figures fishing the  edge tight to the bank and I caught 17 from both the bush and the top two down the right margin also to double figures fishing paste in what was both a frustrating match and a fun end.

Thanks for reading John, Simon and Eddie

  • Wow that was rock hard, well done Mick, the cream rises 😉

At least you can see 1500lb of fish even if you not allowed to fish for em lol 🙂

Did you catch short pole like eddie says or bomb?

    • Hi, Andy.
Think it was 13 Carp all on the T bag. Meat line was only producing very small skimmers. Decided that any fish on the bottom were most likey to be feeding fish.
Oddly after catching one Carp I got smashed by the next (2 hrs later) which ran through the bush to the left I rerigged with a 16 hook rather than the previous 14 and found I got much more positive bites.

    • Break out the floaters andy and see if your new pole can take it!

  • Now you say that Andy I am not sure if he caught on the short pole ad that was what I heard as I was so far away.
Well done Mick on the win and also well done Malc on catching 36lb of bream on the top 2 down the edge.

  • Now theres an idea.
Malc came to watch and in 10 minites I hsd caught 4 carp.
Dont know where they had gone for 5 hours but it was solid in the end.

    • I reckon you stayed on to practice for the next night match!
Any idea when that might be? I was hoping Friday 2nd Aug as I’m on hols that week so could defo make it.
      See you soon, buddy.
