Rolfslake Family Open Day 25th August 2013.

Your host for todayJohn with guard dog. Olly .

On Sunday the 25th of August John and Pauline Bennett kindly opened up Rolfslake for a family day where  people who would like to have a go at fishing, and even with it being a Bank Holiday there were visitors who brought thier wives ,children and husbands hoping to have a chance of catching virtually any of the many species that Rolfslake holds.

The day was lovely and sunny and there was a raffle with the proceeds going to Sobel house hospice a barbeque and a sweet tent.  John had supplied fishing whips for the juniors to fish and not so juniors to fish with and Micheal Corsini, Paul Jay , Steve Waters and Kevin Doulton and Neil Riddy helping the adults and wives and children hopefully catch their first fish.

Now i remember when i caught my first fish which was a roach down a park lake 40+ years ago and i was so excited but today most anglers first fish were double figured carp upto 19lb with a few 3-4lb bream for good measure but not many small silver fish so the visitors were definitley spoilt.

On bankside there was Dai Thomas as resident photographer for the day, Ann Thomas, Pauline and Annette and helpers working on the barbeque and sweet tent, selling raffle tickets and cold drinks with the profits going towards the charity and they were kept busy for most of the day. Lakeside the children took turns to fish with the resident anglers and Rolfslake for once was happy to give up its fish knowing it was for a good cause and over the day there were over 150 carp caught to 19lb on a very nice and enjoyable day so a special thanks to John and Pauline for making this happen.

It was a very enjoyable day down the lake with everyone catching fish and there are already many ideas for our next one down the lake in 2014. There will be many dreams of the big fish caught and the ones hat got away but for a venue that very rarely lets our visitors down Rolfslake is the place.

I would like to say a big thanks to Annette for the first prize of a television ,Peter and Gary at Drennan Internation and Kevin at Kamasan and Dave Ridgely at Experience fishing Newbury for their very generous donations of prizes for the raffle but again a very big thanks to all the helpers for their time and our visitors that took the time to come down and have a fish you were most welcome. the total raised was £220 and has been paid in to the Sobell House hospice oxford, for which they are very grateful.
