Rolfslake Bank Holiday Monday Open 3rd May 2010
As the anglers gathered around the lake today the big news apart from the amount of anglers { 29 } was the police helicopter hovering over the lake looking for a man in a bandana who had escaped from the lake with some money from Wednesdays open. John tells me the helicopter was hovering for a little while which makes a change from the Army Chinnook helicopter and the fighter planes which normally go over the lake from RAF Benson .
John was glad to shut the gate with 29 anglers at the draw as with 6 no shows it could of been 35 and a full house for todays Bank Holiday open. I am sure that the recent run of big weights had encouraged more anglers to leave the house rather than watch the re-run of films showing on the telly, so on a very windy day the anglers gathered at the draw hoping for a good days fishing.
John tells me today was a difficult day with the wind blowing from the small lake into the big lake making presentation very hard with some anglers having to fish the bomb as the wind was very strong especially on the car park bank and with this the weights were down on the lakes current form.
Todays winner was Simon Boweren who was down the end of the small lake on peg 2 and who fished the long pole fishing on the deck with pellet hookbait, and Simon was kept busy with fish to double figures in his final weight of 140-00 {well done Simon }. In second place was Earnie Malyon on peg 7 who opted to fish the bomb across due to the strong wind and was rewarded with another ton weight fishing corn hookbait over pellet for his weight of 132-08 and only one fish off victory.
Completing the frame was Mark Olsen who was on aquarian peg 34 by the rope and Mark fished the pole using pellet and meat as hookbait fished on the deck and again was rewarded with another ton weight and also a fish off victory in what was a very close frame in todays open {well done guys}.

Until the next report tight lines from Eddie and Simon.
What a hard day that was, I managed 6 carp and 1 bream for 52lb. Lost as many as I caught, I should have done much better as I was in a flier.
It was still a good day up the lake.
Nice report,
Dan
Wht peg was that then Dan as Every pegs a flyer on it’s day.
Malc Dan was on peg 18 which is one of 40 flyers down on the lake.
I was solid at the start I had 3 fish in the 1st 15 minutes, but then it went dead, when I did hook them they were lumps and smashed me up:(
Dan
I enjoyed my day sat in peg 10 in the wind, rain, sun, hail watching John Walker fish long into peg 11 1/2.
It was certainly more enjoyable than sitting in the traffic jam on the M40 on the way home.
Roll on next Wednesday when I shall be back again (do I wear a summer shirt or my winter woolies?!)
Eddie
As you say all are flyers.
Hope to wangle onto wednesday 12th open as got to go to Bristol and Reading that day so we will see.
Dan
Sounds like your still on your silly winter rigs you were on back then.
Get broke once and it could just be a weak spot in the rig, twice and you need to sort it out any more than that and well we wont go there LOL..
I know why i got broke, they came up and were 18lb sort of size carp and then they screamed of to the snags and the line clipped the snags and it cut the line like scissors. I managed to land a lump on the wag of 13lb 8oz I think, I think the bigger fish were shallow yesterday.
Dan
LOL
As i said not geared up for the average sized fish.
13lber is a nice fish but only just over average so not really a lump.
13lb is a good fish shallow on the wag isn’t it? Its not big for the pole but usual the smaller ones are shallow. Obviously not yesterday.
Could not answer regards wag shallow at Rolfs as i dont do it there but average is average regardless of how you hook it LOL
And dont forget fish swim and feed at all levels so any gear should be geared towards landing them.
