Rolfslake Wednesday Open 12th October 2016

Today saw the really big fish put in an appearance.

In today’s match I don’t think I have seen so many big fish put in an appearace for mid October.

The day was not very warm with a slight breeze blowing from the big to the small lake, which I think helped the fish switch on to feed.

The match started in spectacular style when Gordon Worrell had 2 carp in the first 20 minutes that went 19lb and 20-08 fishing the bomb and meat to the areator on peg 36.

For the rest it was a waiting game but in the last 2 hours Andy on peg 7 started to get a run of huge fish ( his 14 board fish went 171-04).

Andy fished a top 2 plus 3 fishing pellet feeding pellet , but still managed to foul hook and lose about 20 fish on what could of been a really special day.

In the end Andy had around 21 fish for his winning weight of 223-04 ( well done Andy ).

In second place after his speedy start was Gordon Worrell on peg 5 who also had a run of massive fish with 5 of those going over 15lb topped by the mirror of 20-08.

Gordon fished a combination of bomb and short pole fishing meat and pellet hook bait feeding pellet to catch his weight of 169-00.

Also a mention goes to John on peg 10 who only had 9 carp but they went 123-02 thanks to 2x 19lb and a 17 and 15lb fish .

Today’s match saw 6 anglers weigh over 800lb of fish which 36 fish weighed over 10lb in another case of big fish catching.

Today saw 24 anglers come to support the fund raising for the lola-rosefoundation  {www.lola-rosefoundation.co.uk} ,which promotes research into stillbirth and neonatal death whilst supporting families suffering such a devastating loss.

The day saw 8 pairs which consisted of 8 anglers and 8 non anglers and 8 anglers fishing seperately. The weather was warm if you were on the motorway bank and cold if you had drawn the car park bank, and it was the anglers on pegs 14,15,17 and 18 that saw the majority of the fish although it was no really a competitive match.

The winning pair on the day were Charlie and Terry on pegs 14 and 15 who caught several carp in their winning weight of 112-07 closely followed by Chris and Rich on pegs 18 and 17 with 68-01.

I even had the opportunity to help Charlie on peg 24 who had never fished before catch 3 carp and a few silvers which put him in 5th place out of 24 anglers, which totally made his day.

The big winner of the day was the Foundation which had over £3,000 raised through fundraising and the raffle which was fantastic in helping the charity continue their research and support .

Pairs 1 Angler and 1 non angler.
