Atomic Angling Club Match. 25th April.

Atomic Angling Club visited the lake today. 19 anglers turned up hoping for a good days fishing.

The fish were very active, fizzing and popping all over the lake. The weather was quite sunny with the odd shower of rain.

Today’s winner Carl Geoffrey caught long on the pellet from peg 13 but caught the bulk of his fish in the second half of the match at 2 meters in the right hand side on pellet.

The match was nice and close. With only one fish separating the framers.

We hope you enjoyed your visit to the lake.

Well done to Martin and Kenny who have each secured a place on our Peg Kings board.. šŸ˜€

Rolfslake Wednesday Open 21st April.

As the attendances start to grow on the Wednesday opens two things will now be a dead cert,

1 you will always find Vespe sponsored Chris Telling with lots of paste hookbait and

2. When Jon Walker turns up he will normally need more that 3 keepnets.

With today being a sunny but cool day if you were drawn on the car park bank and with a gentle breeze blowing from the north, hopes were high for a good days fishing. With the Rolfslake cartel members in attendance and also the two super baggers { Telling and Walker } plus the judge, Malc, the Isle of Wight anglers plus the regulars, the 16 anglers were raring to go at the draw. With enough anglers today it was decided by John to use both the big and small lake and with Chris drawing peg 6 in the small lake and Jon drawing peg 24 in the big lake with my main competition John Bennett drawing peg 14 and me drawing peg 15 i was not going to have a relaxing day.

As the match started i could not believe my eyes as John on 14 shipped out to 16 metres as i did not think he ever fished more than 6 metres and to make matters even worse he was fishing shallow and had a quick 4 fish to my lost 2. From where i was i could see Jon on 24 catching a few fish fishing shallow and Malc Doyle on 18 had caught two fishing long towards peg 19 so things were not looking good for me. For the anglers on pegs 9,10,30,and 32 fishing was slow but for the anglers on the car park bank they were having a few fish as the fish were topping on that side so some good weight were going to be had. The pleasure anglers were having a few fish so hopefully paste master Chris and Chris Calder on peg 4 and Paul Bennett on 8 were going to have plenty of fish as before the match the small lake was black with fish.

The winner today was super bagger Jon Walker on peg 24 on the car park bank who started fishing shallow feeding regular pouches of pellet, and who later in the match was able to catch a lot closer in. Jon was fishing pellet hook bait on the shallow line fished about 3 to 4 feet deep, and paste on the short rig fished at about 7-8 metres. Jon had about 100lb on the shallow rig before switching to the short rig and he caught plenty of weighers {all 180lb of them } in his final weight of 269-00 to go top of the weight chart for this year {sorry Chris your top weight lasted 1 week}.

Super bagger Jon Walker.

In second place was Chris Telling who after being dissapointed on drawing peg 6 tried catching short with little success, but when he fished at 11 metres the fish were waiting for him. Chris was using paste fished on the deck feeding positvley to catch his fish to 14lb + in his final bag of 229-00. Completing the frame was Mick Jones on peg 30 by the hut and for three hours was struggling but a change to the margin line brought a great response and big fish for Mick who was using his favoured flavoured meat fished on the deck to catch fish to 13lb.

The match today was from 2.30pm till 7.30pm

As for me Eddie it started off bad and then went downhill as when i arrived at the lake John asked me if i could go round the lake on the lawnmower and cut the grass. I thought to my self no problem and went off happily cutting the grass only to be told off for not cutting the grass in straight lines, then as i went to park the mower by the hut i ran over the rope that holds the aireator in the middle of the lake and tangled it in the cutting blade {not very good }.

After Paul had untangled the rope i went to put it into gear and the gear stick broke so we could not drive it. I was looking around the lake to see if i had run over a black cat or if there was only one magpie flying around as i don’t normally have bad luck but more was to follow as when after collecting the pools money someone asked me the time and as i turned my wrist to check i tipped the pools money out of the container only for it to blow around on the grass with the anglers chasing it.

Now to the fishing after drawing next to John i thought i should beat him today , but it never happened as i lost 19 fish and John by the end thought i was suffering from terrets with the amount of swearing comming from my peg as i lost fish after fish.

The score stands at John Bennet 2 – Eddie T-Green 1.

A.E.C angling club match Sunday 18th April.

Today Rolfs lake welcomed the A.E.C angling club from the Luton area to the lake. AsĀ the anglers assembled at the draw fish could be seen topping all over the lake so hopes for a good day were high, and with the day being sunny with a slight breeze that usually helps getting the fish to feed.

The winner of todays club match was Dean Elliott who was draw on peg 16 on the motorway bank and Dean used a combination of pellet waggler and the pole fished up in the water using pellet hookbait to catch fish to double figures in his winning bag of 139-00 { well done Dean }.
