Rolfslake’s night match 13th August 2010

John has informed me that there will be the 4th night match on Friday the 13th of August draw time 6.30pm fish 7.30 – 12.30 so if you would like to take part in this popular event you will have to book a place with John on the number in the contact section.

The previous 3 matches have been won with over 200lb and this years top weight has also come from the night match with nearly 400lb and after the match the anglers are treated to a barbeque served up by John and Pauline ,so if you fancy fishing after dark give John a call before the night matches end for the year.

Rolfslake pleasure fishing.

On arriving at the lake today i saw Richard Doolan and his daughters Chloe and Milly fishing peg 36 and as i arrived to see them the rain really lashed down and i can tell you it is very difficult to fit four people under an umbrella and expect everyone to stay dry.

After seeing Chloe catch small roach and perch on maggot, Richard gave Milly { who is young and with a Rolfslake personal best carp of 19lb } a go and within a few minute was into another big carp on maggots and after about 10 minutes safetly landed another double figure carp to bring a smile on her face {well done Milly}.

Chloe happy catch fish.

Milly with another double figure carp.

Also pleasure fishing on the small lake was Mark Orchard and his highlight of the day was a pair of 20lb carp caught from big fish peg 38 which has thrown up 6 20lb carp in the last three weeks so if you draw it be well prepared with your tackle as there are a lot of doubles in this peg at the moment.

Sunday Open Match. 1st August 2010

A good turnout at the lake today for a rare Sunday open match. 22 anglers turned up. Fishing was from 11.15 till 4.15. With Ginger on peg 8 most people had already set themselves up to win the section they were fishing because all thought he would win the match as he normally does from peg 8.

On the all in I had a fish right away as did a lot of people but after the first hour people were really struggling for a bite. Paul Jay on peg 34 had already been trashed in the lilies.

John Bennett came round the lake to take a picture of Dave Whitemans 22lb’er

Dave with his smashing carp

For the rest of the match the only people really catching well was Simon Enticot on peg 28, Ginger on peg 8 and Malc on peg 13. Pat on peg 4 had a steady run of fish throughout the match as did Kev over on peg 38.

The results tell the rest of the Story. Most people tipped back so the weights on the results are those from the weigh sheets. It was a close match though.

Jinx Series, Match 5. 31st July 2010

Today was the penultimate Jinx League Match. Most people were already at the lake having fished the Evening match the night before. Most were in a pretty bad way due to lack of sleep and/or the amount of beer consumed.

Gem’s hat victims for the day were none other that Clive Pritchard and Ade (Slim Shady) They are also partners in the Jinx league pairs too 😀

Pairs and Hat partners, Clive and Ady

People today caught most of their fish in the final two hours of the match. Marcus Burgess (Budgie) managed his first win at the lake and his second Jinx ton also mainly fishing down the margin to his left on peg 15. Well done mate.

Peter Moreton on peg 8 had caught well but had been through the bushes more times than he would have liked loosing numerous rigs. Fred Parker fished a fine match and managed to survive the 2010 Jinx series without once getting MINXED. Everyone else fishing has been MINXED at least one time 😀 Fred will not be at the next match due to a holiday but were all sure Gem would have got you 😀

Dave Collier also managed his first ever Section win on a Jinx match, well done mate. Al Loader also managed to catch the first ever 20lb + Carp on a Jinx match with a carp weighing 20-8 from peg 23. Superb.

The Final Jinx Match for 2010 is on the 21st August and then the lake should be fishing back to normal without Malc been down the lake 😀

Jinx Evening Match. 30th July 2010

Today the Jinx Squad return to the lake to fish their annual Evening match at the lake. They are also fishing on the Saturday too.

Before the match Malc had arranged a BBQ so everyone could have a natter before the match. The draw had been a rolling draw meaning you could draw from anytime after 4pm until the last person turned up. Most people were already at the lake and started drawing. People went and set up on their pegs with 3.5 hours before the match was due to start and then headed back for the BBQ.

John and Pauline

Gem and cooking. uh oh....

Thats more like Gem's cooking 😀

Most people were camping at the lake ready for Saturdays match, and some were even fishing the open match on the Sunday too.

John do you know some Gypo's have moved in ??

Rolfslake flasher, Paul Roberts

Cross your arms if your going to do a Ton tonight

After the BBQ everyone made the way to their pegs. Some people were more excited than others with their drawing hand. See if you can guess which  ….. ?

Vince Gould was on 14.

Dave Collier was on 32

Malc Doyle on peg 8 with He-Man in the background

Mitch Auger behind peg 7

Tony Roberts seem quite chuffed to be on 9

Clive Pritchard on peg 31

Jon Hatch looks quite happy

Once the match started people seemed to all catch a fish pretty quickly but then people were struggling. After the lights went on the lake looked lovely but the fishing proved to be hard.

After the match word was A section had fished best with Malc on peg 8 had catching well along with Alex on peg 6. Nick Williams had also had a few. While in B section Al Loader was to the only person to really have put a weight together. In C section fresh was his first Ton weight Nick (Monkey) had been trying for another and came very close, Paul Roberts who had a terrible lasy match had managed to catch a few this time.

After quite a hard Match here are the results…

Position Name Peg Weight
1 Malc Doyle 8 169-12
2 Alex (Bagger J) 6 132-2
3 Al Loader 31 99-8

After the match and the weigh in was complete. People were up drinking and chatting till 5am.

A certain young Lady (Gem) had gone to bed having only fished for 2 hours of the match and then went to sleep behind her peg with the slugs and snails. So 7 out of 24 ain’t bad for 2 hours work is it 😀

If you want to fish a night match at the lake the next one is on the 20th August. The draw time is 6.30pm. Its quite an experience 🙂

Make sure to ring John Bennett to book in as spaces are limited. Number is in ‘Contact‘ above.

Thanks, Si and Eddie.

Rolflake’s 3rd night match 23rd July 2010.

As Rolfslake entered its 3rd night match of the year, news had got out of the prize on offer to the angler that broke the lake record of 530-00 of a Lamborghini Gallardo or a Vespe / Rolfslake tee shirt and these prizes i am sure helped swell the attendance on tonights match.

Prize to the angler that broke the lake record on tonights match only.

Also tonight we had the rare treat of the Jinx Minx aka Gemma Doyle join the guys for a nights fishing but as the regulars are not part of the Jinx League they are unaware of the term minxing or the significance of her scream when she caught her first fish.

Stupidly i was talking to Simon the day before when he told me that Gemma was going to fish and i muttered the words i will never be minxed at Rolfslake but would these words come back to haunt me ?.

The Minx Gemma Doyle on the prowl for new victims.

Peg 32 the winning peg on the last two night matches had Lee on it tonight and he was hoping to fill his nets as there is a massive head of fish in this area at the moment, and on peg 9 Neil Riddy had drawn the peg for the second night match out of three. With only two pegs left in the bag it was left to me and Paul Jay to draw and when i pulled out peg 26 i was more than happy to see Paul draw very little used peg 35 in the small lake.
The match started with the usual flurry of bites and early fish but my biggest fear happen after 20 minutes when from the motorway bank there was a shreek as Gemma caught her first of many carp so i was already playing catch up, and for the next four hours i watched as Gemma landed fish after fish as it got dark and at one stage i estimated i was 6 fish down so i dont think i have ever concentrated so much in order to put some carp in the net.
Along the motorway bank the usual suspect were catching fish with Dave Whiteman catching steady and next to him Derek Hammond was also catching slow to start with but getting quicker as the match went on. The anglers on the motorway bank were struggling like me with foulhooked fish and from where i could see also pegs 9 and 32 were struggling to line the fish up, and John Hague on peg 8 was finding it frustrating trying to locate where the fish were and what baits they wanted.
In first place today was Rolfslake regular Geoff Edwards who yet again was lucky to have his wife Vicky  bring him good luck and also an end peg. The combination of good angler + good peg normally = match win and today Geoff fished just two lines one at 4 to 5 metres and the other down to the edge to his right at a range of 3 metres just down the first shelf. By fishing paste on the deck Geoff was able to keep the fish coming by feeding constantly which brought a run of big fish { Geoff’s last two fish went 38-08 } which helped him amass his weight of 273-05 and another match win and peg king {well done Geoff.
In second place was Paul Jay who fished a very good match from a poor peg and who fished banded pellet on the deck at 6 metres feeding heavy but suffered a lot of lost fish but still managed to catch plenty of fish to double figures in his weight of 184-04 and also peg king for peg 35.
Completing the frame was Derek Hammond on peg 29 on the car park bank and after a slow start was able to catch fish at 8 metres i think as i could not see that clearly in the dark, and after five hours caught 153-04 for another frame.
After the match and weigh-in the anglers were treated to a lovely barbeque provided by John and the anglers relaxed by the lake recalling their match and telling of lost fish and big battles with Rolfslake’s monsters.

As for me i spent all night foul hooking fish and losing fish in the bush to my left and after spending 4 and a half hours swearing to myself i was very lucky to have four doubles in a row on paste to catch 74-10 and 11th place and only 2-06 in front of Gemma so i saved myself a minxing just, but i will not be stupid again to think that i can’t be beaten by Gem { sorry }.

If you would like to experience an enjoyable match with great company and a great barbeque give John Bennett a call to book on as places are limited due to health and safety of all our visitors.

Geoff and Vicky Edwards looking for cloud 9 on their way home.

Early morning fishing.

As i woke up at 6.30 am i was greeted by John Hague and his son Brandon who were happily bagging from peg 33 by the hut and after a short while Brandon’s float dissapeared and he was hanging on to a nice common carp of 14-08 which brought a nice smile on his face and even a bigger one on his dads { well done Brandon }.

Mark and Billy Chard.

Billy Chard with a common 13-08.

After watching Brandon catching a few carp young Billy was tempted into having a go and again by float fishing using banded pellet Billy was into a carp after a few minutes and with a little help from dad was able to play and land a nice common of 13-08 {well done Billy}.

Until our next report tight lines Eddie and Simon.
