Rolfslake Saturday 14th April 2012

First i would like to thank Paul Corsini for giving lake owner John Bennett a new toy to play with in the shape of a megafone complete with a siren, which was tested on me on my arrival at the lake. As i got out of my car the one person that i had not seen by the hut was John and i now know why because he was hiding in the bushes ready to shout my name much to the amusement of the rest of the anglers.

Today was quite mild but with a breeze blowing from the small lake to the big lake so there was not as many crusing carp to spot as there have been and with such a late decision to hold an open the 10 anglers decided that todays match was going to be a walk off so a low draw was going to be essential. As the draw was called for a change i decided to draw second and as i opened my hand was dissapointed to see number 7 , my main challenge was John and with a big smile on his face could only mean one thing that he had drawn would you believe number 1.

John decided to draw peg 32 by the hut as it had shown some form of late but was more interested where I was going to fish and as i had said the big lake the rest of the anglers also followed suit but when it was my turn changed my mind and chose peg 6 in the small lake to see if I could do better than my last match on peg 6. The story of the match was for most anglers it turned out to be a struggle as the wind and the tow caused presentation problems if you fished longer than 5 metres and as it got colder towards the end of the match the bites dried up for most of the anglers.

In first place today was me Eddie Tayor-Green who was fishing in the small lake on my favourite peg 6 but it was very cold and not far enough away from the megafone as i kept hearing from John everytime I hooked a carp and that was quite a few times today. I was trying a variation to my X4 paste mix which I think is now complete to use in cold and warm water conditions as every bite I had today resulted in the float sailing away every time and in some cases the pole was pulled around. I fished two areas a 12 metre line straight out facing peg 36 and a long margin line towards peg 5 and caught fish to 16-08 in my final weight of 102-08 { well done Eddie}.

Another win for the Pirate.

In second place was Paul Jay who you guessed it was on peg 18 again , so it now only takes him 5 minutes to set up as all his rigs are already plumbed up and ready to go. Paul today managed to catch a few on the waggler and the rest on the pole and like me had fish to mid doubles caught on 8mm banded pellet fished on the deck for his weight of 88-12, which maintained his good run of frames recently.

Second place Paul Jay.

In third place was my website partner in crime Simon Mound who tells me he started on the bomb and ended fishing the pole using 11mm banded donkey choker pellet feeding 4mm pellet which caught fish to over 18lb ,but the wind and tow in this area played havoc with Simons float presentation but he still managed to get a few carp to feed and after 5 hours put a hard earned 73-04 on the scales to complete a first and third for the bloggers.

Results.

9 Fished.

Rolfslake Wednesday Open 11th April 2011.

The Crocodile makes his third appearance in a week.

After the three day Easter festival that was won by Mark Maylin, the anglers were hoping that with fewer anglers on the lake today that the carp would have a proper feed . With a frost the previous two mornings thing were only going to get worse for the unlucky 13 as John tells me that it started sunny and warm turning windy and then all hell broke loose as there was thunder and hailstones so just another day down the lake.

In first place today was Paul Jay who we now think is from another planet as no human could draw the amount of flyers as he does, as today he drew peg 18 on the motorway bank with the wind blowing into his corner with fish topping. John tells me that Paul caught on the waggler and pole fishing banded pellet and caught carp to double figures for his final weight of 129-00 {well done Paul }.

In second place a having a good run was Dai Thomas who had drawn opposite to Paul on peg 22 on the carp park bank, and after catching his first carp at 21-04 went on to putting a good bag of carp together on what John believes was pole fished with pellet hookbait fished on the deck for his final weight and second ton of the day with 107-00. Completing the frame was lake owner John Bennett who was on iffy peg 8, and after failing to find any of Mark Newbolds tackle from last week told me that after a slow start he tried fishing 16 metres across with little success. On feeding a few more pellets at 16 metres he saw some fish swirling so he baited with a 11mm donkey choker pellet shipped out and as soon as the float settled it shot away, thinking it was a carp got ready to land it only to find the pet crocodile or pike looking up at him. The pike was the same one that Clive and Chris had caught last week as it had the same markings but this time weighed in at 13-08 but John also had a 4-08 chub to go eventually with some carp in his weight of 68-04 and a rather mixed bag for John.

13 Fished.

Easter Festival Final Day. Draw, updates and Results. 9th April 2012

The weather down the lake today is very wet with rain falling. It also rained throughout the night with some heavy downpours. There is a brisk south westerly wind hitting the lake. There are hundres of fish on the top by pegs 9 and 10 following the wind. John thinks thw wetaher today will improve the fishing. We shall see.

BREAKING NEWS…… Mick Lane has draw a crapper. Peg 19 stuck to his hand and he was not too chuffed. He was shocked when he opened his hand to see peg 19 rather than peg 13.

No overnight drama’s last night down the lake.

On to the draw today.

Andy Quarmby on peg 29.

Looking good for Chris Telling with Mick on 19 and Mark Malin on peg 4. Anything can happen though as you know if you have ever fished Rolfslake….

First update will be 12.30pm (ish)

Update1. 12.40pm..

Horrible conditions down the lake at the minute. Wind is picking up and there is a constant drizzle.

John Draper on peg 8 is having a nightmare much the same as Clive yesterday, He is out fishing long but his sections are sticking together with the rain and he is loosing fish whilst trying to unship. Steve Waters even stopped fishing to get of his box and try and help him out, what a gent.

The fishing is quite slow to start off with and the little lake is very quiet with only Mark on peg 4 into fish. Current Favourite Chris Telling has hooked and lost 1 and got one in his net, whilst Mick lane flew off and bagged 2 carp pretty much right away but its gone quiet for him now. So out of the 3 festival leaders Mark is off to the best start.

Here’s how it stands at the moment…

Section1..

Ernie on 17 had 3 carp.

John Draper on 8 has 2 carp but has lost a few too.

Phil Powell on 23 has 2 carp and is playing another.

Section 2..

Dave Wightman on 14 has 3 carp.

Mick Lane on 19, Matt Smith on 31 and Steve Waters on 7 have 2 carp.

Section 3..

Curtis Tranter on 10 has 4 carp.

Andy Quarmby on 29 has 3 carp.

Mick Chappell on 21, Jeff Edwards on 6 and Mark Malin on 4 have 2 carp and Mark is playing another.

Next Update in and Hour, Cheers.

Update 2..1.44pm

The wind has calmed down a bit not and the rain has stopped. The little lake is still very quiet.

Chris Telling is still on 1 carp on peg 16 but has just landed a big pike. Phil Powell was just playing a carp and has broke his topkit, he currently playing a carp on half a topkit 😀

Dave on peg 14 and Marcus on 10 are both fishing long and having a few fish, Dave is also catching of the bush to his right. A lot of the others are hooking and loosing loads of fish which is very frustrating.

Section1..

Ernie on 17 has 4 carp, from the bush.

John and Phil on 8 and 23 still have 2 carp

Section 2..

Dave on 14 has 7 carp.

Steve on 7 has 5 carp.

Matt on 31 has 3 carp.

Section 3..

Curtis on 10 has 6 carp.

Andy on 29 has 5 carp.

pegs 21,6 and 4 still have 2 carp.

Update 3. 2.35pm

Very cold down the lake at the moment. Very little action to report really. JOn Walker on 38 has stopped fishing to gather his thoughts as its rock hard down the little lake. He reports that Mark on peg 4 has about 10 fish but Eddie has him down for 4 fish, Paul Jay is going round soon to update everyone so he will get a better answer from Mark himself hopefully.

The wind is now blowing from the big lake down to the little lake. From what can be seen the anglers are catching on banded hard pellet, expanders, corn and meat. A few are using worm too.

Section 1..

peg 17 has 4 carp.

peg 23 has 3 carp.

peg 8 has 2 carp.

Section 2..

peg 14 has 8 carp.

peg 7 has 5 carp.

9 and 31 have 4 carp.

Section 3..

peg 29 has 9 carp and is playing another

peg 10 had 7 carp.

peg 4 has 4 carp (maybe more, not confirmed yet as he is out of sight of the spotters)

Last update before results. 3.41pm

Bit of drama down the lake in the last hour. When your staying over for the festival and have pitched a tent please make sure you use the provided tent pegs properly….Unlike Jonny Broadbent. He was sat on peg 40 and watched in amazement as a strong gust of wind lifted his tent off the ground and dropped it behind the roped area on peg 34 where it turned upside down and started to sink with all his clothes and food still inside.

Back to the fishing and its still fairly slow, big black clouds are looming over the lake ready to pee down for the weigh in do doubt. People are still catching all round the lake in dribs and drabs.

Big news is that Mark on peg 4 has confirmed he has 12 carp and was playing another, he could win the section but Andy on peg 29 now has 14 carp and was into another with regular bites which could knock Mark down 1 point in the section.

Section 1..

Ernie on 17 has 6 carp.

Phil on 23 has 3 carp.

John on 8 and Andy on 24 have 2 carp

Section 2..

Dave on 14 has 9 carp.

Steve on 7 has 6 carp.

Matt on 31 has 5 carp.

Section 3..

Andy on 29 has 14 carp.

Mark on 4 has 12 carp.

Curtis on 10 has 8 carp.

Joff on 35 has 5 carp.

Check back for the final results for the festival in about an hour and half, Thanks
