Cold weather slows down the fishing .
Today saw a bumper turnout down the lake to hopefully catch one of the big weights that had come out of the lake recently as with two 300lb + winning weights and double tons and tons a plenty all the anglers were hopeful of a good days fishing. With both the big and the small lake in today and the pleasure anglers fishing the bottom of the small lake the pegging was cosy with 4,5,6,7 and 8 all together in the small lake making for little room and even no carp bay peg 11 had to be put in.
The match today would be decided on a main winner and then the top two in each section of 7 so you could even come third in your section to collect some money which was just as well as i had drawn little used peg 17 with the added pleasure of John on feature peg 18 so i was going to have a noisy day with the stick coming my way or was I ?. There were lots of carp in the middle of the big lake cruising around eating the fly hatch coming off the lake bed and they were not interested in bait but quite content in mouthing the anglers floats as they kept swirling around them. Today also saw the return of lake record holder Jon Walker who had drawn a short walk to peg 29 who was next to form angler Micheal Corsini on peg 31 who in turn had drawn next to his dad Paul on peg 32 so a threeway battle was on by the hut.
With the turnout boosted by the club anglers practising for their match on the Thursday it was amazing how they drew all the form pegs leaving the regulars on the standard pegs so at least they were in for a good days fishing hopefully catching a few big fish too.
Todays overall winner was Reading Angling Centres Geoff Edwards who was left with peg 5 in the draw bag and Geoff did a great job considering peg 6 was also in catching fish to double figures to record the only ton weight of the day. Geoff fished an 8 metre line slightly to his right in line with peg 38 and by fishing pellet and paste feeding pellet he was able to keep the fish coming to claim another win down the lake.
The car park bank section was won by John Walker who caught most of his fish fishing long and shallow on peg 29 with his weight of 85-15 and the motorway bank section was won by me Eddie with 39-13 from peg 17.
With the weather due to stay consistent by cooler the fish should settle down again and get back into feeding mode ready for this weekends round of club matches.

John Bennett is sunk by the Pirate.
With both John and I drawn next to each other it was never going to be quiet today as i had to stop his runaway lead in our seasons battle so it was interesting at the start who could feed the most down the edge of the same bush as we were both going to fish it only being 8 metres apart. The fishing was slow down our end of the lake with John catching 5 carp and losing 5 {one coming off at the net how sad } using both waggler and pole and me catching 4 carp and losing 3 but my carp were slightly bigger but only just.
There were lots of cruising carp out in the middle but you could not get them to feed so they were going to be safe today and between us we concentrated on fishing the edges to catch our fish and in the end I came out just on top with a win by just 2-05 to claim another point.
The score now stands at
John 7
Eddie 4

Rain, rain and more rain, oh and thunder, lightening and hail. A good sign the Jinx Series had started.
I think its quite clear where the fish were on the day by the results but that’s the way it goes at rolfs sometimes.
Mickey made good use of no one being on peg 4 to take A section and his 2nd 300lb+ weight in 2 days, well done. Maybe you will not drawn an end peg one day 😛
B Section was always going to be between peg 8, 32 and 9 but despite big weights coming from peg 9 and 32 in the night match they failed to produce in the day time and Malc Doyle fishing on peg 8 too the section win.
C Section was a bit bleak to be honest. Steve, Mat and Neil were the only ones having regular bites while the other 4 really struggled. Simon’s first carp was a 21lb’er which lightened the frustration somewhat. In the end last years series winner came through to take the section win.

The next match is in 2 weeks time, hopefully the fish will have spread around the lake making things a bit more even and mikey might draw with 2 people either side of him for a change.
Thanks for reading. Simon, Eddie and John.
Micheal Corsini the Prince of darkness comes good.
New King of the lake comes from the first night match of the year.
Tonight saw the first night match of the year which i was greatfull to get an invite { thanks Malc} which normally starts of the Jinx League series for the year. Todays weather started fairly warm getting overcast as the match went on ant the obligatory rain being followed by the temperature getting much colder by the end, and it was decided that the match would be fished in the small lake due to only having one generator to run the lights.
There was a rolling draw at 4 with a 7 o’clock start time fishing till midnight so plenty of time to set up for the anglers that had got to the lake early and i had to change my having the last peg in the bag as the last angler Malc did not turn up till 8 so on putting my hand in the bag i drew end peg 32 which i had not drawn for a couple of years so at least a short walk to my peg. Today also saw a return to Rolfslake of last years star angler Simon Mound who had come with Gemma and little Caitlin and Simon drew peg 18 also an end peg but with the wind blowing out from this area of the lake.
Some of the other anglers today had drawn challenging pegs most notably Neil Riddy who had drawn peg 11 in no carp bay but with also pegs 10 and 13 in was going to find this most difficult but for others it was flyers as usual especially Micheal Corsini who had drawn peg 9 and he was going to be my banter for the evening.
At 7 the all in was called and within three minutes i had caught the first carp of the match which was greeted by John Bennett giving the rest of the anglers a running commentary of who was catching which after half of an hour was most anglers. Micheal on peg 9 was in to fish on a regular basis and even Neil on carpless peg 11 had caught one so things were looking good. At 9 John put the light on due to a darkening sky and by 10.30 it was totally dark and also the motorway got quieter so it was a case of trying to get the fish to come close which most anglers did.
In first place was Micheal Corsini on peg 9 who gave a great demonstrating of fishing at short range towards the bush to his right as that bush was alive with fish but you still have to catch them which Micheal certainly did as fish after fish came to his landing net. Micheal used pellet hookbait feeding pellet to come the fish coming and he also had a run of big fish { Micheal had 24 weighers for 274lb on the board } but also got broke by a few fish which stopped him catching 400lb but after 5 hours put a fantastic weight of 364-14 to not only win but take the current king of the lake off Pete Archer and claim peg king for peg 9 { very well done Micheal }.
In second place and a long way back was me Eddie who was also fishing the other end peg peg 32 but a distraction of chasing swirling fish down the edge cost me about an hour of only catching 3 fish when i should of been fishing my paste line as it was solid. I was fishing at 8 meters to my left just down the slope in the gap between the big and small lake and by using paste i had real quality bites and got smashed 3 times by real big fish but had to settle for my final weight of 260-05.
After Micheal the top performance of the night goes to Neil Riddy who was fishing no carp bay peg 11 and by fishing 3- 4 metres straight in front caught a great stamp of fish to 19lb and as i looked up from time to time i could see Neil going to the scales with another big fish and his board weight went 180lb plus and when added to his net fish went 208-10. Neil fished pellet and meat feeding pellet to not only catch the top weight from this peg for years but also claim the peg king for pwg 11 and show other anglers how good this peg can be.
The anglers thouroughly enjoyed the experience of night fishing which is very kindly organised by John Bennett and just goes to show how good the fishing can be at Rolfslake.
