Super Jay smashed the 300lb mark in todays open match.
Today saw the start of the new later match times which normally means two things big fish and bigger winning weights.
As i arrived today the carp park was full as there were pleasure anglers on pegs 34 to 38 and a mini match from pegs 40 round to peg 6 in the small lake so we were all squeezed in between peg 7 and resident Paul Jay right round to Russ on peg 32. The story of the match from where I was seated was there were plenty of carp cruising around both the big and the small lake which saw Frank Donachie , Pat Pritchard and Any Rayment all start on the waggler and long pole fished shallow with immediate success.
Both Paul and Pete were putting together a few fish in the gap on pegs 7 and 8 and also Mark Newbold was catching from no carp bay AKA peg 13 so thing were looking good for a big weight today and for the rest it was going to be a game of patience waiting for the wind to blow a few fish down to your pegs.
The pleasure and mini match anglers were also catching and with both parts of the lake in use and most pegs with an angler on the fish had nowhere to hide today.
In first place today and setting the benchmark and claiming the king of the lake was Paul Jay on peg 7 who started on the bomb catching a quick fish but when he saw a few fish on the top switched to the waggler and had about 4 carp, but it was when he switched to the right hand edge this is when his swim exploded into life. Paul fished 8mm pellet feeding pellet fished on the deck to catch most of his fish and he had a very good stamp of fish to 18lb which helped his board weight to 189lb and his final weight of 300-09 to set the highest weight of the year down the lake { well done Paul }.
Todays winner Paul Jay with 300-09.
Along way back and in a battle for second was Pete Archer on peg 8 and Mark Newbold on peg 13 which was won by Mark by just over 10lb. Both anglers fished pellet long to catch their fish alternating the depths to keep the fish coming and again there were some big fish on their board weights but in the end Mark won with his weight of 192-01 to Pete’s 181-02.
The theme as we went around weighing in the fish were the amount of big fish caught today as John Bennett on Peg 9 had 3 fish for 54lb topped with the biggest fish of the day at 19-10 and there were at least 6 other fish of 18lb or more caught today.
The last weekend opens for a while are this Saturday and Sunday draw times on the website and after that it is only going to be Wednesdays open where you can experience big fish and big weights and i expect Paul Jays weight of today to get beaten within the next couple of weeks as the fish are ready to have a good feed so it could be you.
If you are interested in fishing this weekend please phone John to book in thanks.
