The lovely red kite
After finishing work i went down to the lake to see John and watch Pole Fishing magazine do a feature on Mick Wilkinson fishing using Marukyu bait products. The day was sunny with the usual stiff breeze blowing from the north which was going to make fishing the paste quite difficult, especially on the chosen peg 26.
As i promised to Jon Arthur the magazines editor it would be unfair to spoil it by telling you about the day and the results Mick had so you will have to read it in the June edition of the magazine, but i can tell you about the products.
Mick gave us a demonstration on mixing the company’s AFP 300 warm water paste mix which was very interesting. This mix is as easy to mix as i have ever seen and Mick measured a cup of mix and an equal measure of water, and after mixing the water to the mix 5 minutes later it was ready. The paste has a stringy appearance to it so it will hang on the hook if you swing it out but stays soft all the time. In the water the paste has little pieces falling off it and fluffs up in size so i know this paste will have many uses. Mick showed us two mixes one for cold water and one for warm weather and he caught fish on them.
There is also a liquid additive SFA 430 which Mick used in his pumped expander pellet and all though there was a strong smell and these are water soluble as when it was put in the water with a quick stir it was gone. Marukyu is a Japanese company and is also the top bait seller in Japan so now it is coming to England to bring a different range of products that i believe will work very well on the fisheries that they will be used on.

It was a very enjoyable day in the company of Mick and the two John’s and i learn more about paste fishing, {thanks Jon for the free magazines }.
What was evident today was the amount of fish moving about and feeding by the amount of fizzing in Mick’s swim so i so expect Chris Telling’s top weight from Wednesday match to go very soon if not on Saturdays open.
After everyone had gone i was going to test my new camera on taking fish pictures without even fishing so armed with only a loaf of bread i tried to get the fish to feed out of my hand whilst holding my camera {not very easy}.
All i can say is that i had a very enjoyable time with about 60 fish fighting for my bread and also we saw some big chub in amongst the carp.
