Rolfslake Wednesday Open 29th April 2015

20130501_140816

Cold day down the lake.

Today saw 9 anglers down the lake and it was the small lake that was selected by John for todays match as there had been good weights there last Sunday.

The story of the match saw a very slow start for 7 of the anglers with the exception of Mark Newbold and Graham Ridgley who were into fish very quickly as there was a glimmer of sun on the water making it slightly warmer. Down the bottom of the small lake it was lifeless for most as it was very cold with the wind blowing into peg 39.

The winner today was Mark Newbold on Sundays winning peg 34 and Mark caught on a long line to the rope fishing on the deck fishing pellet and also down the edge also fishing pellet feeding pellet for his weight of 182-04 and included fish mid double figures.

In second place was Dave Wilsden who was on end peg 8 in the channel between big and small lake and Dave also caught fish over 10lb in his weight of 85-00. Completing the frame was Graham Ridgley who caught big carp to 15lb on a combination of bomb and pole fishing pellet feeding pellet.

Todays winner Mark Newbold with 182-04 from peg 34.

A tough day down the lake.

With the new later start times for these Wednesday Opens hopefully you will see two things, more anglers attending these matches and the weights start to rocket so fingers crossed.

Today saw a warm day but with a stiff breeze blowing fom the small lake but this still not get the fish to go down in the water as from where i was on peg 9 there were at least 200 carp between me and Mick Jones on peg 32.

The match started slowly except for Russ on peg 18 as he had a very quick carp within the first few minutes and that was his match done, but for the rest it was a case of trying to get the surface carp to feed which really did not happen.

The winner today and sporting a nice new Diawa top was Kev Dolton on peg 13. Kev started shallow and was rewarded with a couple of carp fishing pellet and feeding pellet at about two feet deep but when he switched to his left hand edge towards the thick tree trunk at about 5 metres the carp were waiting for him.Kev caught relatively small carp from this peg  but it was just enough to stay in front from the chasing pack as he weighed 80-08 for the win.

Todays winner and the man in red Kev Dolton.

In second place was the Pirate {me} who today had the sole intention of just fishing paste on peg 9. It was slow at the start as the breeze was quite strong for me fishing soft paste at range towards the bush as it kept coming off but as soon as the wind died down i had 7 carp to 16lb for 73-01 fishing paste feeding 6mm pellet.

In third place was Colmic’s Geoff Edwards on peg 22 who started very slowly but in the last 40 minutes was flying but just ran out of time catching down the right hand side just down the ledge fishing pellet for his weight of 53-07.

Place Angler Peg Weight
1st Kev Dolton 13  80-08 Rolfslake
2nd Eddie Taylor-Green 9  73-01 Rolfslake X4
3rd Geoff Edwards 22  56-08 Colmic Reading
4th Ade Williams 26  53-07 Jinx League
5th John Draper 16  28-09 Rolfslake
6th John Bennett 24  11-12 Rolfslake/ Drennan
7th Mick Jones 32  DNW Rolfslake
8th Graham Ridgely 28  DNW Rolfslake
9th Russ Spencer 18  DNW Rolfslake

The Pirate finally gets a point on the board.

Neil Riddy Invitation Match 12th April 2015

20130501_140816

Today Neil Riddy had invited 20 guests to fish one of his matches that he arranges a couple of times a year down the lake. The day started sunny and warm getting colder as the day went on ,but it did not stop the carp from cruising as they have been doing recently in big numbers and not really bothering to feed which was a frustration for most of the anglers.

Todays winner and maintaining his winning run, Drennan sponsored Steve Waters.

Today winner and maintaing his good form down the lake was Drennan sponsored Steve Waters who managed to catch carp to double figure in his weight of 94-02. Steve managed to pick off a couple of fish shallow to start with but when he switched down the left hand edge the carp were more obliging pushing his weight to nearly a ton and keeping him clear of Geoff Edwards opposite on peg 22.

Richard Doolan with a nice Koi cross common.
