Rolfslake Wednesday Open 18th April 2018

A lovely warm day down the lake.

After a 270 mile journey to get todays match it was great to see a full car park for the midweek match.

John had decided the anglers were going to fish in the festival sections and the anglers were going to fish for an overall prize then first and second in section.

After the indifferent weather of late today was really warm 25 degrees, which brought most of the fish to the surface and then proving tough to catch.

Today’ match was decided on a fish for fish battle between Gary Donachie on peg 8 and Neil Riddy on peg 34 in the small lake.

Gary fished a combination of spots in his swim and caught the majority across at 16 metres for his total of 17 carp.

Neil caught his fish down the rope at 13 metres and Neil also suffered lost fish and also ended up with 17 fish but slightly bigger to win today’s match with 130-00.

Neil’s detailed report can be read on his Facebook page.

Some photos from today being posted later.

Rolfslake Easter Festival Day 3.

A thrilling end to the Easter Festival.

Firstly a massive thanks to all the anglers who returned to fish day 3 after two really hard days fishing in rubbish weather conditions.

The day started with the top 9 anglet’s separated by only 3 points so a plumb draw was certainly first priority today. The current festival leader Jack Griffiths just needed to have a half decent draw but failed drawing peg 28 in B section.

John Beesley had draw moody peg 18 in C section and had Anthony Carter who was 1 point behind next to him on peg 17, so that was going to be a good battle.

In A Section the draw everyobe wanted was peg 34 but that went to Judd Jepsom with Andy Rayment drawing good silver peg 38.

During these 5 hours the anglers had to keep an eye out for what was being caught in their section and then plan wether to fish for carp or silvers to get good section  points.

The match was again very hard for the anglers with gusting winds and very cold lake water putting the carp off feeding and those anglers fishing for silvers were rewarded with big points for there efforts.

After the final whistle it was an exciting weighin as some of the early leaders had blown out but there two standout performances in John Beesley ( Drenban Oxford) who had won his section again.  Anthony Carter ( Ace tackle and Bait) who for the last two day had fished for silvers scoring  yet again another big haul of points.

The tables below show the final.points results but after fishing a brilliant 3 days the 2018 Rolfslake festival winner was Drennan Oxford”s John Beesley who ammased a total of 4 points very well done John.

John had two section wins and a second making sure from his three draws 34, 32 and 18 that he maximised every opportunities in gaining big points against his opponents.

Rolfslake 2018 Easter Festival Champion John Beesley (Drennan Oxford)

In second place was Anthony Carter who fished his first festival and a great performance by fishing for silvers and also being in John”s section.

We would like to thank John and Pauline for hosting the event and preparing the hot hot food which was very much appreciated.

To run such an event in horrid conditions for the benefit of others takes a lot of effort and John worked extremely hard to keep the lake water levels down .His sole aim is to run a fun event but also a safe event and hopefully the anglers enjoyed their three days.

Thank you also to Dai, Jack and Andy for helping with the weighins.
