Jinx Series, Match 2. 5th June 2010

The Jinx Squad made their return to the lake today. The weather today was very very warm and muggy indeed. The day started off sunny but the clouds moved but it remained hot round the lake.

The car park soon filled up with the Jinx members and some guests as some members were unable to fish today. The draw was supposed to be at 11.30 but as usual Malc was running late which gave Crystal plenty of time to go round and collect everyone’s guesses for the guess the weight competition. Looking back at the results I think everyone guesses were a tad high πŸ˜€

Fishing today was from 1pm – 6pm. The draw format was A section to draw first, in the order of the placings on the previous match so first in the section drew first and so on. The draw ran smoothly except when C section made their draw. Someone (BUDGIE) had put his peg back on the table with the C section pegs. People had drawn their peg but when Tony pulled out peg 40 there had to be a redraw much to the dismay of Gemma who had pulled peg 26 out the bag. Everyone drew again and Gemma still managed to draw peg 26 anyway 😯 With the draw out the way everyone trundled off to set up.

I was trying to get pictures of everyone around the lake but Malc called the all in and I had to get back to my peg sorry πŸ˜€ With the match fully underway it was clear that many were struggling with getting a bite in the big lake. Ade on peg 30 was catching a few, Gemma on 26 was fishless after 2 hours and not a lot else was happening in the big lake. The little lake was throwing a few fish up, Steve on 34 was leading the way in the little lake with both Clive on 8 and Dave on 7 catching fish from the far bank on the feeder. Also fishing the feeder was Peter on peg 36, a method used in the last few matches and proved to be very successful. Poor Jon on peg 38 was not so lucky and was having a hard time getting the carp to eat any of his pellets.

Paul and Simon on pegs 2 and 4 were having a mini match of their own, Simon was fishing the corner by peg 3 in the scum and was getting plagued with foul hooked fish and fish snagging him in the bushes whilst Paul was just having problems landing them πŸ˜€

Most people had struggled today showing everyone that big weights do not always come from the lake and it is not an easy place to fish. The weigh in soon finished as there were 2 weigh in teams today working on opposite banks across the lake. Today’s match saw the first blanks of the series and probably not the last. Gemma on peg 26 had only managed 1-12 today so most people were safe from a MINXING ! despite that she still managed to take 3 scalps today. Terry Goff, Paul Dolby and Matt Edwards. Who would get the hat this time, only Gem knew πŸ˜€

With the results sorted Malc gathered everyone for the presentation. Pete Archer had kindly donated some prizes from Vespe today but instead of giving them to the main winners Malc decided to work from the bottom up so the lower weights all went away with something.

Gem held the hat over the lads heads teasing them but it finally came to rest on Paul Dolby’s head, where it would be for the entire next match. Fair play to Paul he took it well.

Thanks to John And Pauline for hosting the match and Pete Archer again for the prizes.

As soon as everyone had left John went off to make sure the lake was in top form for tomorrows Club Match.

Off to mow a meadow

Ashton Angling Club match 6th June 2010.

Today Rolfslake welcomed Ashton A.C down to the lake from the midlands area and the anglers were hoping that the fish had stopped spawning and were willing to have a feed as the Jinx league match yesterday was really tough.

John tells me that 25 willing anglers set off to their pegs only to find the fish still spawning in the margins so it was very difficult to know what the fish wanted today either a cautious approach or to just to thrash the bait in and suffer plenty of foul hooked fish and very little to show for it. The weather was very warm with a cool breeze and the anglers with a ripple on the water did slightly better that those with flat water in front of them.

The winner today was Jay Davis fishing peg 7 in the gap between the big and small lake and Jay used a combination of the feeder and the pole to put together a very good weight of fish and big fish too catching fish to double figures in Jay’s final bag of 171-08 { well done Jay }. In second place was Andy Morrison on peg 32 by the hut who fished short range 5 -6 metres and down the edge using banded again catching big fish in his weight of 131-04. Completing the frame was Mark Bedford on peg 4 who suffered plenty of lost fish but in the end lined them down the edge to his right using pellet hook bait to catch his weight of 104-14.

John would like to thank all the anglers and hope to see them again soon.

We hope you enjoyed your visit to the lake.

The Next match at the lake is on Saturday when the Jinx Squad make their second visit to the lake this year.

Rolfslake Bank Holiday Monday Open 31st May.

Firstly sorry for the late posting of this match report as there was an error with my computer not allowing me to update the website.

John tells me the 22 anglers were faced with a cold day with a strong wind blowing from the north east, and after the 3 day festival the previous weekend anglers were unsure if the fish would switch on whilst they were still spawning.

After 5 hours fishing the winner was Rolfslake regular Paul Jay who was fishing car park bank peg 22 in the corner and Paul decided to fish long at a range of 11 metres fishing on the deck using the current form bait of 8-11 mm banded pellet. During the match Paul was able to pick off fish by lifting and dropping his rig to entice bites and he caught fish to double figures in his final weight of 134-08 { well done Paul }.

Todays winner Paul Jay.

InΒ second place was Β Chris Lovelock who was fishing current form peg 9 on the motorway bank. Chris fished down the edge towards the big bush to his right and by using pellet and meat fished on the deck managed to keep himself busy and have carp visiting his keepnet on a regular basis and at the end weighed only the second ton weight of the day with 110-08.

Completing the frame was Vespe sponsored Pete Archer who was fishing peg 26 by the car park and Pete fished both up in the water and on the deck at long range 14.5 metres and used big soft expander pellet to catch his weight of 87-00.

John hopes the carp will have finished their spawning by the weekend so the next visitors down the lake the Jinx league will have another great days fishing with all our friends looking forward to the presentation of the pink minx hat to Pete Morton.

Herbie Invitational Match. 30th May 2010

Carp on the feed at the lake.

Herbie and Friends had the lake for the day today. 17 anglers turned up on quite a sunny day. Many of the guys had not fished the lake before and were full of anticipation after hearing stories about big weights. We had the whole lake so there was a bit of space between the anglers.

The draw took place at 10 ish and fishing today was from 12-5pm. Plenty of time for everyone to get set up. John Bennett went round and helped out the guys that needed some info.

Simple trying a bit of shallow fishing on peg 30

Orinoco on peg 13 had hooked in to his first rolfslake carp and was experiencing the power of the fish, In the process of landing the fish he managed to loose the landing net of his handle πŸ˜€ John and Pauline were on hand quickly running round with a spare net to help him.

Orinoco looking for his landing net

Lee on peg 7 had been catching well along with Roland down on peg 2. Having a slow start Dave on peg 26 had worked out where the fish were and was slowing building up a terrific weight. Larry on peg 9 was struggling but was ever determined to do his Rolfs Ton. Simple on peg 30 had managed 5 fish shallow and then got fish feeding on a 5 meter line.Β  Dave bull down on peg 24 had a cracking start on the pellet waggler fishing in to the middle of the lake but had lost the fish as the sun went off the lake.

A special Mention goes to big Ron on peg 28 who had foul hooked a carp. It had taken him round the bush to his left and then under both platform legs and out the other side towards Simples peg. He did some magic elastic waggling and somehow managed to get the fish from under the platform adn round the bush and back in to his peg only to land it. To say I was amazed would be an understatementΒ  πŸ˜€ Well done Ron

Simple with a shallow caught carp

Larry Tee Pot having a grueller on Peg 9

Paul catching a few on peg 14

With the match over and the weigh in complete it was clear that the first timers had caught plenty of fish and were impressed with the lake. The weights were also impressive with Roland down on peg 2 managing a fantastic 181-8. This was also good enough to give Roland the Peg King for peg 2. Dave on peg 26 had been catching plenty of fish, enough to give him second place with a great weight of 172-12. Completing the frame was Lee on peg 7 with 148-12, Lee had the luxury of fishing peg 7 on his own as peg 8 never got drawn.

Match Fishing Scene 3 day Festival. 27th-29th May 2010

Church007, Festival organiser.

Martin had arranged a 3 Day festival over at Match Fishing Scene. Banter on the forum had been building up about the Welsh beating the English so who would come out top after the 3 days ??

Most of the guys fishing the festival were also camping over at the lake. Thursday morning at the lake it looked like some gypo’s had moved in and set up camp πŸ˜€

Thursday morning saw glorious sunshine after Wednesday nights torrential rain.Β  24 anglers all gathered for the draw at 12am

Hi de hi campers

The campers woke up to a sunny morning.

Everyone gathering for the draw

John Bennett refreshing everyone with the lake rules

With the draw done everyone had plenty of time to get to their peg and set up. Fishing would be from 2pm – 7pm. The match format was 3 sections of 8 anglers. Section A was pegs 2, 4, 6, 7, 34, 36, 38 and 40. Section B was pegs 8, 9, 10, 13, 28, 29, 31 and 32. Section C was pegs 14, 16, 18, 19, 21, 23, 24 and 26.

John Bennett was going round helping people with their pegs, giving them info on how to fish it but some people were just beyond help it seems.

Budgie on peg 31. He was peg king for all of one day πŸ˜€

Day one has seen some good weights from around the lake while others were struggling. Chris Telling was having a blinding day on peg 7 catching on corn and paste at 14.5 meters. Down in C section Pellet KingΒ  and Jonny B had been catching well, Pellet King catching shallow on 6mm banded pellet to take the section. B section had been won by Nick Merry on peg 13 catching long and short in the margins and 14.5m shallow.

Day 2

The anglers moved round the lake for day two in to the next section. Expectations were high for some good weights today as previous festivalsΒ  2nd day always through up some high match weights. With the draw at 12 and fishing from 2pm – 7pm again everyone had plenty of time to set up again.

Despite all the expectations the lake had fished harder on day 2. Two double tons had still come from the lake though, Phil Powell on peg 31 had fished a blinder on a peg he did not fancy after drawing it. He had to fish hard for it though, fishing at 16 meters shallow on banded pellet. Second double was from Pete Archer on peg 9 and was just a few fish away from beating Phil.

Mick Lane had won C Section fishing shallow, in the margin and 5-6 meter line on banded pellet. Pellet King had fished another excellent match in A Section fishing shallow again and in the margins.

Fishing today for the final match would be earlier. The draw at 10am and fishing 12-5pm. This is to allow people to get away earlier after the presentation. B section was won by event organiser Church on peg 8 fishing 16m, down the track and in the bush on his left all with corn. C Section was won surprisingly on peg 21. Pete Archer had kindly brought along a trophy for the winner too.

Festival Winner Pellet King

A big thank you to Martin for arranging a superb festival. It was great to meet up with old friends and meeting new ones. The whole event ran smoothly.

The lake was also left how it should be. All littler, fag butts and sick was cleaned up πŸ˜€ Thanks to everyone for keeping the place so clean. this will ensure future events like this one can carry on to take place.

On a side note. Simon and Budgie were having a mini battle and Simon lost 2-1 to Budgie. Well done mate πŸ™
