Pre Pairs Weekend Invitational Match.6th Aug 2010

Maggotville getting warmed up *All pictures Click-able for larger view*

Dave Collier had booked the lake for a pre Maggotdrowing pairs weekend match. He invited some friends and Jinx members. This was to be a warm up match in preparation for the annual 2 day Maggotdrowning.com pairs weekend. This also allowed those attending to get their tents pitched and settled in.

The draw was at 12.30 and fishing was going to be 2.15 -7.15pm. Me, Gem and Budgie arrived late thanks to the traffic on the M40 so Pauline drew our pegs for us and what a drawing hand she has. Gem was on peg 9, I was on peg 26 and Budgie was on not so much of a good peg, Peg 40. As we arrived people were already setting up. We unloaded the car and got everything in to the tent and headed off to set up with only about 30 minutes to go before the all in was honked by Dave on his Gillette horn πŸ˜€

Geoff Palmer on peg 10 was the first person to catch a fish just a couple of minutes after the all-in. People were catching over the big lake and Dave Webster on peg 24 was on the feederless Feeder (as he call’s it) which is basically a pellet cone. He was having plenty of action and was taking an early lead in the big lake.

Clive had drawn peg 32 again after having it on the last Jinx match. He was not impressed to say the least as it was not fishing to its normal standards and he was breaking his pole in the process of getting out the carp from behind the bush.

I had been fishing the feeder for the first 15 minutes while my other lines were fed. I had not set up the pole as I had not had time. John Bennett came round and said he thought the fish would feed shallow, with that said I set up a shallow rig and had a go. It resulted in one fish a 16lb’er πŸ™‚

At this point Dave was storming ahead in the big lake followed by Steve up the corner on peg 22. Ant Haywood over on peg 18 was also catching a few. In the little lake Malc on peg 38 was catching some big un’s and was the only person really catching. Gem was on peg 9 again and having a steady run of fish but struggling to keep the fish out of the left and right bushes.

I was fed up of watching Dave’s rod tip going round so I fed my 5 meter line and went for a walk with the camera.

Getting back to my peg I set up the rig for the 5 meter line and went in with a banded pellet, fish on right away and that was the story for the rest of the match for me. A nice steady run of fish. Like everyone else I was also suffering from loosing foul hooked fish πŸ™

On the all out Hooter I thought Dave had managed the win but thought I would be close behind him. Word was the little lake had fished poorly and Malc had won that section.Β  On to the weigh in.

Going round the lake as usual from peg 34 it was clear to see that the little lake had indeed fished hard with Malc catching the most weight with the help of some big fish which have been showing around the lake again. Everyone was eager to see what Gem had done on peg 9 as a lot of people had struggled.

Gem put 52lb on the scales, from that point on people where just hoping not to get Minxed. Ant Heywood on peg 18 put the first ton weight on the board with 109 followed by another from peg 22 fished by Steve Akal. Next was Dave ‘Feederless Feeder’ Webster on peg 24, he weighed in 136lb and was looking good for the win until we weighed in my fish, Just one fish separated us. I put 144lb on the scales to take the win for the day. I was surprised as I thought I had about 120lb but have never been good at guestimates πŸ˜€ It was a good battle Dave thank you.

Rolfslake’s night match 13th August 2010

John has informed me that there will be the 4th night match on Friday the 13th of August draw time 6.30pm fish 7.30 – 12.30 so if you would like to take part in this popular event you will have to book a place with John on the number in the contact section.

The previous 3 matches have been won with over 200lb and this years top weight has also come from the night match with nearly 400lb and after the match the anglers are treated to a barbeque served up by John and Pauline ,so if you fancy fishing after dark give John a call before the night matches end for the year.

Rolfslake pleasure fishing.

On arriving at the lake today i saw Richard Doolan and his daughters ChloeΒ and Milly fishing peg 36 and as i arrived to see them the rain really lashed down and i can tell you it is very difficult to fit four people under an umbrella and expect everyone to stay dry.

After seeing Chloe catch small roach and perch on maggot, Richard gave Milly { who is young and with a Rolfslake personal best carp of 19lb } a go and within a few minute was into another big carp on maggots and after about 10 minutes safetly landed another double figure carp to bring a smile on her face {well done Milly}.

Chloe happy catch fish.

Milly with another double figure carp.

Also pleasure fishing on the small lake was Mark Orchard and his highlight of the day was a pair of 20lb carp caught from big fish peg 38 which has thrown up 6 20lb carp in the last three weeks so if you draw it be well prepared with your tackle as there are a lot of doubles in this peg at the moment.

Sunday Open Match. 1st August 2010

A good turnout at the lake today for a rare Sunday open match. 22 anglers turned up. Fishing was from 11.15 till 4.15. With Ginger on peg 8 most people had already set themselves up to win the section they were fishing because all thought he would win the match as he normally does from peg 8.

On the all in I had a fish right away as did a lot of people but after the first hour people were really struggling for a bite. Paul Jay on peg 34 had already been trashed in the lilies.

John Bennett came round the lake to take a picture of Dave Whitemans 22lb’er

Dave with his smashing carp

For the rest of the match the only people really catching well was Simon Enticot on peg 28, Ginger on peg 8 and Malc on peg 13. Pat on peg 4 had a steady run of fish throughout the match as did Kev over on peg 38.

The results tell the rest of the Story. Most people tipped back so the weights on the results are those from the weigh sheets. It was a close match though.

Jinx Series, Match 5. 31st July 2010

Today was the penultimate Jinx League Match. Most people were already at the lake having fished the Evening match the night before. Most were in a pretty bad way due to lack of sleep and/or the amount of beer consumed.

Gem’s hat victims for the day were none other that Clive Pritchard and Ade (Slim Shady) They are also partners in the Jinx league pairs too πŸ˜€

Pairs and Hat partners, Clive and Ady

People today caught most of their fish in the final two hours of the match. Marcus Burgess (Budgie) managed his first win at the lake and his second Jinx ton also mainly fishing down the margin to his left on peg 15. Well done mate.

Peter Moreton on peg 8 had caught well but had been through the bushes more times than he would have liked loosing numerous rigs. Fred Parker fished a fine match and managed to survive the 2010 Jinx series without once getting MINXED. Everyone else fishing has been MINXED at least one time πŸ˜€ Fred will not be at the next match due to a holiday but were all sure Gem would have got you πŸ˜€

Dave Collier also managed his first ever Section win on a Jinx match, well done mate. Al Loader also managed to catch the first ever 20lb + Carp on a Jinx match with a carp weighing 20-8 from peg 23. Superb.

The Final Jinx Match for 2010 is on the 21st August and then the lake should be fishing back to normal without Malc been down the lake πŸ˜€
