Bank Holiday Open Match. 2nd May 2011

Very windy down the lake again today

17 anglers turned up today on a very very windy day down the lake. It was windy yesterday as well but hopes of it dying down were shattered at 7.30 when branches started dropping off the tree’s as the wind picked up again.

Before everyone else got to the lake John had a bit of a problem with a cormorant. He had been eating the fish from the lake and then having a bath in the salt dips…

Naughty Bird

Pretty much everyone today was going to be suffering from the wind in one way or another.

More to follow…bed time 🙂

Frank Donachie Invitation match 1st May 2011.

A strong wind spoils the fishing down the lake today.

John tells me that he expected the fishing to be better today than yesterday for Frank Donachie’s match today but with a strong wind blowing from the small lake to the big lake it made presentation for the anglers very difficult if you were on one of the car park bank swims.

With the fish looking like they had finished spawning { maybe } all the anglers were hoping for a few fish today but John tells me fishing was extremely difficult in the wind as it made presentation hard with anglers having to resort to the tip to get any bites.

Todays winner was Frank Donachie who was on Jekyll and Hide peg 4 as it seems that a good weight only comes off this peg ever comes off this peg ever 3 or 4 matches, but today was Franks day fishing the pole using meat and corn hookbait to catch his fish and during the match Frank caught fish to double figures in his weight of 182-04 for his win { well done Frank }.

12 fished this match.

Peg kings update 1-5-2011

Peg king update .

For our visiting anglers at Rolfslake i would like to give you an update of our theme down the lake of Peg Kings.

Peg Kings are awarded to the angler who posts the highest weight on a peg at that particular moment in time, so you become the Peg King of that Peg. To become King of the lake you need to post the highest weight of all anglers visiting Rolfslake between the 1st of January to the 31st of December which also gets your picture on the main page banner.

It was done as a bit of fun by myself and Simon but has now turned into something of a monster as anglers apart from winning the matches want to be peg king of that peg, so i have put down a few facts about it .

There are currently at Rolfslake,

1 peg out of bounds peg 33

1 peg under construction peg 12

3 pegs with no recorded weights 1,20 and 39

12 peg kings under 100lb

17 peg kings over 100lb

5   peg kings over 200lb

1   peg king over   300lb

The current King of the lake is John Bennett with 300-06 from peg 8.

King of Rolfslake owner John Bennett can anyone beat his weight of 300-06 from peg 8 ?.

The current Silver fish King of the lake and Rolfslake Silver fish lake record holder is Shimano Team Wales sponsored Andy Johnstone with 72-00 caught from peg 17.

Silver Fish match record holder and Silver fish king of the lake Andy Johnstone with 72-00 caught from peg 17.

The angler who holds the most peg kings currently are ?.

Derek Hammond currently hold 3 peg kings.

Paul Jay also currently holds 3 peg kings.

I will keep you informed with who is making the biggest impact on the peg king leader board at the end of June but for weekly updates look at our peg king board .

Rolfslake Saturday Open 30th April 2011.

John tells me there 15 anglers fishing todays match and that the weather was warm in the sun but was also windy making presentation very difficult for the anglers. The fish were also seen cruising on the top chasing the blossom that had fallen off the trees but unlike the MFS match the day before the carp were happy to have a feed as most anglers at least caught a carp.

The winner today Paul Jay was on form peg 16 on the motorway bank and Paul was kept busy with big fish as he had 130-00 on the board at the weigh-in for another victory {well done Paul }.

I will up date this report as i get more information from John.

Todays winner Paul Jay.

MFS Pre Withy Match. 29th April 2011

The Match Fishing Scene Lads were at the lake today, the match was organised my Sconey.

Scone. Todays match organiser.

The draw was at 9 (ish) and fishing was from 11-4pm. There was a total contrast with the weather today also. It was windy, cloudy and cold. We had a few rain showers as well and a Thunder storm after the match.

The fishing was rock hard today with pretty much everyone struggling for bites.
