Monday Open Match. 30th April 2012

Just to inform the Monday match regulars that Next Monday’s (7th May) match is a Bank Holiday open and the draw will be at 10.30 am NOT 1pm like normal Monday Opens. Thank you.

Todays Open Paul tried to peg it so the anglers were out of the wind much the same as John did yesterday.

Mick Chappell was making the most of being in the little lake on his own and scores his first double ton of the year, Well done Mick 🙂 Paul Jay was at his second home (Peg 18) and started fishing once he had opened his mail and fed the dog 😛 Paul fished down to the bush and on the waggler. Having 55lb 8oz Dai on peg 16 was not expecting to frame but nether the less he did. Well done.

Osprey’s AC Match. 22nd April 2012

Neil has just sent me the results for his club match back on the 22nd of April. This match last year produced some big weights but it was totally different weather last year. This year’s match was a different story though.

Today’s winner Ian Millin fishing from peg 28 used 10 pints of maggot and fished shallow long for the whole match catching everything from roach to carp. Malc Doyle in second place fished a short line with paste to keep the fishing coming. Completing the frame was Rolfs regular Mick Chappell fishing from peg 7.

Well done.

Rolfslake Sunday Open 29th April 2012

The weather Gods are not kind to the anglers in todays match.

After the two day Jinx match on Friday and Saturday hopes were high for a good attendance in todays match, but with the horrid weather the previous night with gale force winds unpegging tents on the grass, John tells me that on reflection these anglers decided to call it a day and go home leaving only 8 anglers to brave 5 hours of endurance.

The weather today was a right mixture of everything, strong gusting wind, driving rain and to tease the anglers a glimpse of the sun for two minutes so a very difficult days fishing lay ahead for our 8 brave souls. With the strong wind making fishing long near on impossible most of the anglers fished between 4 and 8 metres to give them the best possible chance of bait presentation { so paste fishing was a non starter today }.

John also tells me that all the anglers were pegged in the big lake today which was a shame as the small lake was black with carp feeding on the fly hatch rising to the surface, and with the lake rising over the platforms during the match it was a good job that they all had wellies on.

In first place for a change was lake owner John Bennett on flyer peg 8 but not when the wind is blasting through the gap so John opted on fishing two lines the first was a 4 metre line straight out in front and the second towards the bush to his left at 5 metres. John fished both lines on the deck using both soft pellet and meat as hook bait and feeding 4mm pellet which kept the bites coming until the sun came out then it went dead. John had the majority of his carp early in the match and these included fish to 17lb in his final weight of 169-04 { well done John }.

In second place was Gary Kelsey who was next to John on peg 9 and Gary fished a short line straight in front just down the shelf on the deck and again Gary caught a good stamp of carp and was rewarded with the only other ton weight of the day with his weight of 112-12. There was  a 3 way chase for third place which was won by lake regular Derek Hammond who was fishing on motorway bank peg  13 and Derek managed to catch a few carp for 51-00 to stay ahead of 4th place by a pound and a half.

Jinx 2 day Special. 27th and 28th April 2012

The start of a new year and the start of a new JINX Series. This year Malc was running a warm up for the series (Hardly a WARM up) in the form of a 2 dayer. Malc was unable to attend the first match due to having to work 😯 Friday morning and the JINX mob descended on the car park and started unloading their gear. With all the hello’s done with we decided to get on with the draw as the dark clouds were looming over the lake and nobody likes to set up in the rain.

As it was only 2 days all the pegs were in the bag for a random draw both days as you couldn’t fish a different section each day. Fishing was from 12pm-6pm so everyone had plenty of time to set up. Once everyone was set up the wind dropped and the heavens opened up.

John Bennett starting the match with his new toy.

Within the first 5 minutes Neil Riddy on peg 34 was in to his second fish and I was just landing my first fish on peg 9. Mat on peg 32 had hooked and lost a carp too. Due to the nasty weather I never got a chance to go and take any pictures like normal and was taking much notice of anything other than trying to stay dry.

The rain continued for the whole match 🙁 so there was not much banter on the day. Jinx virgin Dave Wall on peg 16 had been catching through out the match from the right hand side as had Nick Williams on peg 19 catching off the bush by the boat. Gem ‘THE MINX’ on peg 26 had not been having a good day and had only managed 1 roach much to the delight of the other 18 anglers, myself included 😛

As soon as the match was over the rain stopped and the sun came out for a short while. At least we could do the weigh in in the dry. Here is the tale of the scales….

Day 2.

We all woke up to the sound of strong gust of wind blasting the lake. The wind had done a total 180° and was now blowing from the little lake towards peg 19 and 21. Most people had been to the harvester for a breakfast and a warm up before the match.

With everyone ready for the draw we again got the draw under-way early so everyone could have some extra time to set up. Malc had turned up today to fish instead of Gem who was stick tucked up in the caravan in the warm. It was spitting with rain and extremely windy.

Much the same as yesterday there was not much banter as it was horrid conditions again and everyone was either to cold or could not hear anyone else as the wind was battering the anglers.

A section was a bit of a crazy section today as Dave Collier and Kev Loveland (both in A section) had decided not to fish due to the weather which left peg 6 and 39 out as well as 37. So Mat who had draw peg 3 had a nice day’s pleasure fishing with the nearest person to him being who ever was driving past on the M40  Peter Morton who was on peg 3 yesterday had draw the complete opposite and was sitting on peg 19 today with the full force of the wind blasting his face.

Most people today started on the bomb and feeder as the wind was blowing poles all over the place. The Odd fish was coming out. Malc fishing on peg 25 then made his first visit of the day to his weigh station with a 21lb 8oz common caught on the past by the bush. Picture below….

Simon Watkins on peg 30 had put the information John B gave him to good use and had started catching a good run of 14lb plus fish and was making regular visits to the weigh station. He was using a special Maver telescopic topkit 😆 Unknown to him, Maver topkits for his pole are not telescopic and we pointed out to his that they were in fact put over joints, small error but he was still landing the fish on them. Also doing well was Paul Roberts on peg 32 chucking the feeder down by peg 33, he was getting a good run of fish through out the match.

Mat all on his own was in fact doing a great job of catching after his miserable day on peg 32 and was putting together a good weight for second on the day. Mugger Morton on peg 19 was fishing to the boat and was storming along despite stopping and going for a walk for half an hour he managed to win on the day which ultimately contributed to his Overall win of the 2 days. 😀

Sorry for the lack of pictures, here are the results for the final day…

Not many pictures taken due to the very poor weather, but here is one of Malc with a 21-8 common caught from peg 25 on paste.

Malc Doyle. 21lb 8 oz. Well done Malc.

Well done to Peter Morton for the overall win and also taking Peg king for peg 19.

Some of the Jinxster’s stayed over to fish the Open match today but I think most had had enough of the weather, but 8 others turned up to fish despite this weather…..

Rolfslake Monday match 24th April 2012

Today was another day the Rolfslake’s carp decided to have a feed, and topping the frame was Kev Doulton fishing peg 16 on the motorway bank who put a big weight of 269-08 of carp to double figures.

Todays winner Kev Doulton.

It looks like the Monday matches seem to throw up the bigger weights after the weekend matches as there have been more 200lb weights from the Mondays than there have been from the Wednesday matches. So if you fancy catching a big weight or a 20lb carp now is the time to visit Rolfslake and give it a try ,you wont be disappointed.
