Easter Festival Final Day. Draw, updates and Results. 9th April 2012

The weather down the lake today is very wet with rain falling. It also rained throughout the night with some heavy downpours. There is a brisk south westerly wind hitting the lake. There are hundres of fish on the top by pegs 9 and 10 following the wind. John thinks thw wetaher today will improve the fishing. We shall see.

BREAKING NEWS…… Mick Lane has draw a crapper. Peg 19 stuck to his hand and he was not too chuffed. He was shocked when he opened his hand to see peg 19 rather than peg 13.

No overnight drama’s last night down the lake.

On to the draw today.

Andy Quarmby on peg 29.

Looking good for Chris Telling with Mick on 19 and Mark Malin on peg 4. Anything can happen though as you know if you have ever fished Rolfslake….

First update will be 12.30pm (ish)

Update1. 12.40pm..

Horrible conditions down the lake at the minute. Wind is picking up and there is a constant drizzle.

John Draper on peg 8 is having a nightmare much the same as Clive yesterday, He is out fishing long but his sections are sticking together with the rain and he is loosing fish whilst trying to unship. Steve Waters even stopped fishing to get of his box and try and help him out, what a gent.

The fishing is quite slow to start off with and the little lake is very quiet with only Mark on peg 4 into fish. Current Favourite Chris Telling has hooked and lost 1 and got one in his net, whilst Mick lane flew off and bagged 2 carp pretty much right away but its gone quiet for him now. So out of the 3 festival leaders Mark is off to the best start.

Here’s how it stands at the moment…

Section1..

Ernie on 17 had 3 carp.

John Draper on 8 has 2 carp but has lost a few too.

Phil Powell on 23 has 2 carp and is playing another.

Section 2..

Dave Wightman on 14 has 3 carp.

Mick Lane on 19, Matt Smith on 31 and Steve Waters on 7 have 2 carp.

Section 3..

Curtis Tranter on 10 has 4 carp.

Andy Quarmby on 29 has 3 carp.

Mick Chappell on 21, Jeff Edwards on 6 and Mark Malin on 4 have 2 carp and Mark is playing another.

Next Update in and Hour, Cheers.

Update 2..1.44pm

The wind has calmed down a bit not and the rain has stopped. The little lake is still very quiet.

Chris Telling is still on 1 carp on peg 16 but has just landed a big pike. Phil Powell was just playing a carp and has broke his topkit, he currently playing a carp on half a topkit 😀

Dave on peg 14 and Marcus on 10 are both fishing long and having a few fish, Dave is also catching of the bush to his right. A lot of the others are hooking and loosing loads of fish which is very frustrating.

Section1..

Ernie on 17 has 4 carp, from the bush.

John and Phil on 8 and 23 still have 2 carp

Section 2..

Dave on 14 has 7 carp.

Steve on 7 has 5 carp.

Matt on 31 has 3 carp.

Section 3..

Curtis on 10 has 6 carp.

Andy on 29 has 5 carp.

pegs 21,6 and 4 still have 2 carp.

Update 3. 2.35pm

Very cold down the lake at the moment. Very little action to report really. JOn Walker on 38 has stopped fishing to gather his thoughts as its rock hard down the little lake. He reports that Mark on peg 4 has about 10 fish but Eddie has him down for 4 fish, Paul Jay is going round soon to update everyone so he will get a better answer from Mark himself hopefully.

The wind is now blowing from the big lake down to the little lake. From what can be seen the anglers are catching on banded hard pellet, expanders, corn and meat. A few are using worm too.

Section 1..

peg 17 has 4 carp.

peg 23 has 3 carp.

peg 8 has 2 carp.

Section 2..

peg 14 has 8 carp.

peg 7 has 5 carp.

9 and 31 have 4 carp.

Section 3..

peg 29 has 9 carp and is playing another

peg 10 had 7 carp.

peg 4 has 4 carp (maybe more, not confirmed yet as he is out of sight of the spotters)

Last update before results. 3.41pm

Bit of drama down the lake in the last hour. When your staying over for the festival and have pitched a tent please make sure you use the provided tent pegs properly….Unlike Jonny Broadbent. He was sat on peg 40 and watched in amazement as a strong gust of wind lifted his tent off the ground and dropped it behind the roped area on peg 34 where it turned upside down and started to sink with all his clothes and food still inside.

Back to the fishing and its still fairly slow, big black clouds are looming over the lake ready to pee down for the weigh in do doubt. People are still catching all round the lake in dribs and drabs.

Big news is that Mark on peg 4 has confirmed he has 12 carp and was playing another, he could win the section but Andy on peg 29 now has 14 carp and was into another with regular bites which could knock Mark down 1 point in the section.

Section 1..

Ernie on 17 has 6 carp.

Phil on 23 has 3 carp.

John on 8 and Andy on 24 have 2 carp

Section 2..

Dave on 14 has 9 carp.

Steve on 7 has 6 carp.

Matt on 31 has 5 carp.

Section 3..

Andy on 29 has 14 carp.

Mark on 4 has 12 carp.

Curtis on 10 has 8 carp.

Joff on 35 has 5 carp.

Check back for the final results for the festival in about an hour and half, Thanks

Easter Festival Day 2. Draw and Hourly Updates. 8th April 2012

The rain fell overnight at the lake but this meant that again the frost was kept at bay. There was some drizzle at the draw but it’s brightening up ready for the anglers today.

Someone (no names) went out on the pop last night and has a very bad head today and turned the carpark at Rolfslake into a disco when he came back early in the morning, local bouncer Dai Thomas had a job waking him up from his drunken slumber despite knocking the window. It’s going to be a very long match for ****** hehe.

Jeff Edwards, current Leader has had a good draw today on peg 13. Second place Chris Telling was not so lucky pulling out peg 35 which is not a favoured peg but can throw up good weights from time to time, if anyone can get a good weight from it Chris can. Third place Mick Lane has drawn ok too with peg 15.

Right on to the draw for today….

Update1. 12.40pm

Its flat calm down the lake and cloudy. The little lake seems to have had a good start again like yesterday but slowed down already.

Phil Powell on 6 and Chris Telling on 35 were having a sword fight both fishing 16 meters and fishing the same swim virtually. Festival Leader Jeff Edwards on peg 13 had a brilliant start but they were all foul hookers and he lost a lot of fish but despite this he has managed to catch 5 carp.

The lads on the car park bank are fishing too far out and struggling it seems, Michael Corsini on peg 26 has just moved onto an 8 meter line and started catching, the others may follow suit if he keeps on catching. Phil on 6 has switched from his girly elastic after being led on a merry dance round the small lake and under his platform by a resident carp lol.

Andy Johnstone on peg 4 is hooking plenty of fish but loosing them which has give him some hope as peg 4 yesterday was pretty poor.

Scores on the board so far….

Section 1..

Matt Smith, Peg 34 – 6 carp

Mick Lane, Peg 15 – 4 carp

Mick Hughes and Steve Waters, Peg 23 and 17 – 1 carp

Update 2.. 1.44pm

The sun is shining and its flat calm. Fish have started popping all over the lake and there are a lot of fish on the surface. Much the same as yesterday the fishing has slowed down again. Clive on form peg 8 is really struggling and Curtis on peg 7 is fishing long and and catching and losing a lot of fish. Dai on Section winning peg 21 is also struggling today loosing fish.

Dave Wightman again is a late starter being the only person not to have caught a carp yet. He was much the same yesterday and then stormed ahead in the last hour.

Matt on Peg 34 has 9 carp.

Mick on Peg 15 has 5 carp and is playing another

Michael and Steve on Peg 26 and 17 both have 2 carp

Section 2..

Jeff on Peg 13 now has 7 carp and loosing loads.

Joff and Mark Pegs 2 and 9 both have 6 carp.

Andy on Peg 14 has 5 carp.

Section 3..

Phil Peg 6 has 4 carp

Chris on Peg 35 has 3 carp

The rest of the little lake all have 1 carp too.

Update 3. 2.40pm.

The little lake has died and everything stays the same in there except while talking to John Matt and Chris telling land another fish. It has now clouded over and a little bit of rain has fallen on the lake. As I was speaking to John the wind has picked up and literally people started to catch whilst on the phone. Mick Lane landed one and hooked another, Dai on 21 was playing a fish and so was Ernie, Andy Q and Jon Walker. Clive on peg 8 is having a nightmare day by the looks of things.

Having seen Michael catching on the 8 meter line the rest of the car park bank did the same and managed a few fish.. Hopefully the way people were starting to catch we should have a better update next time.

Section 1..

peg 34 has 11 carp

peg 15 has 6 carp

peg 17 has 4 carp

Section 2..

peg 13 has 8 carp

peg 14 had 7 carp

peg 9 has 6 carp and was playing another

Section 3..

peg 6 still has 4 carp

peg 35 just caught another and now also has 4 cap

rest of the little lake still have 1 carp.

Last update before the results in an hour. Thanks.

Last update before the results. 3.35pm

Overcast and windy now which seems to have spurred the fish to go back down and have a munch. Andy Q on 14 has been potting big pots of bait out and fish straight over it to get a good reaction from the carp. Dai on 21 is getting plenty of action now but also loosing a lot of fish. Lurker Lane on 15 is catching Matt on 34 up quickly now getting plenty of bites. It seems a lot of fish have been lost today and that will be the story as the scales go round the lake I’m sure.

Section 1..

Matt on 34 has 15 carp.

Lurker Lane on 15 has 12 carp

Mick Hughes on 23 has 6 carp

Section 2..

Wednesday Open Match. 4th April 2012

It seems the fish had filled up on Monday and were not very interested in food today.  Fishing today would prove hard for the anglers down the lake today. The water is still pretty cold as Mark Newbold found out by taking a  dip in peg 8’s margin 😀

11 Anglers Fished

Monday Open Match. 2nd April 2012

Rolfslake switches on Big time.

As i looked out of the kitchen window it was sunny with little wind and i was hoping that when I turned up at the lake that the fish would not be on the suface, forty minutes later when I turned up at the lake there were lots up in the water.

As I was unable to fish the Wednesday open match this week it made a nice change to see a different group of anglers hoping that Rolfslake’s carp would finally get their heads down and have a feed and today Rolfslake did not disappoint.  At the draw it was decided that it was going to be a walk off and having the eighth choice of swim I was hoping that no one chose either pegs 6, 9 or 3 and to my surprise all the other anglers were in the big lake and with Geoff Edwards last to draw he looked at peg 32 and said that will do for me { that was our first mistake of the day }.

The story of the match was after a slow start it turned cloudy after two hours and then Rolfslake went fish crazy, as the fish seen on the surface earlier decided to go down on the deck and into the margins and then it was who could catch the fastest and it was a 5 horse race for victory. The last time I fished a match like this the angler that came last in a 17 peg match weighed an incredible 179lb which still is a record for last place in a match that was won with i believe 440lb, and for a brief period that was on for three anglers and maybe more. All of the anglers today had a great days fishing with carp ranging from 5lb to 20lb and everything in between and it took the four of us nearly fifty minutes to weigh the fish in.

In first place today and claiming king of the lake was Geoff Edwards { Reading Angling Centre } who was more than happy to be fishing peg 32 on the car park bank and after a very slow first hour, Geoff managed to turn his swim into a fish catching haven. From where I was I could see Geoff was fishing three lines, the first was to the bush to his left and beyond, the second was a short 5 metre line straight out in front and the third was to the margin to his right and this was to be his main catching line. The bait that Geoff used today was paste fished on the deck feeding 4mm pellet {two bags worth} and after falling 6 fish behind at the start as Kevan Orr on peg 10 was flying Geoff set about catching the field up and by the fourth hour was level with the leaders and by the end had caught about 40 carp to nearly 20lb to seal victory with a fantastic 353-08 and the top weight from the lake this year { well done Geoff }.

King of the lake Geoff Edwards 353-08.

In second place was Paul Jay who drew a low number and chose peg 22 at the bottom of the big lake , and as Paul draws this pegs on a regular basis all his rigs were set and ready to go. Paul started on the wagger catching a couple of carp early but a switch to the right hand margins fished with 8mm banded pellet saw his catch rate rocket, and with regular feeding managed to keep the fish coming for the five hours. Again Paul caught big fish today to nearly 19lb and at the weigh-in was convinced he had over 300lb but in the end fell one fish short with his weight of 291-04 but still a great weight so well done Paul.

Second place Paul Jay 291-08

In third place was me Eddie Taylor-Green, and after chosing my favourite peg on the lake peg 6 I set about making 5 hours of fishing seem very difficult. I started off on the 7 metre line fishing my X4 2012 mix which failed miserably last week and was going to give it one last chance or it was going in the bin, and after the first hour was struggling with 2 carp and 7lb of skimmers, but as i had fed the right hand margin could not believe my eyes as the water was boiling with fish feeding.

I straight away switched to the top two plus one and margin rig and that was the start of fishing fantasy for three hours as every time the bait went in the float buried very soon after which was fantstic until the 5th hour when I ran out of paste and had to fish the banded pellet which caught me 3 fish. Most of the fish buried the float and pulled the pole round but it was was me dreaming of 400lb that messed up my fishing as i started to speed up and lost 15 fish around the platform and the nets in my rush to get the next fish in. After 5 hours I caught over 30 carp to 18lb for my weight of 289-08 and one small skimmer off second.

Eddie with third place and 289-04.

With these Monday and Wednesday opens moving forwards I will expect this year that one of the big weight anglers will catch the first 400lb for the first time in a few years. The cloudy weather played a very big part today as the fish followed the bait down as there were less visable fish after two hours and at this point the fishing just got better. There were a lot of big fish caught today to nearly 20lb and all the anglers caught doubles, but the anglers reading this just remember Rolfslake is not an easy fishery where you can just turn up and catch 200lb you have to work it out.

I thourghly enjoyed catching my fish today but not weighing the 1,600lb of fish the 9 anglers caught as it was very hard work for the 3 that got involved cheers guys.

New Lake king in Under a week. Geoff Edwards

Well done Jeff, Cracking weight.
