It looks like the Monday matches seem to throw up the bigger weights after the weekend matches as there have been more 200lb weights from the Mondays than there have been from the Wednesday matches. So if you fancy catching a big weight or a 20lb carp now is the time to visit Rolfslake and give it a try ,you wont be disappointed.

Rolfslake’s the battle of Chinnor— Chinnor Works AS v Chinnor Garden Centre 16th April.

Today at Rolfslake was the annual challenge match with Chinnor Works Angling Society the current trophy holders against Chinnor Garden Centre, and in the gardens centre quest to regain the trophy they had roped in John ,Paul and myself to help them with some local expertise and hopefully some big weights. With 21 anglers instead of 22 there was some trading of anglers and it was decided that Chinnor AS would have 11 anglers to i believe compensate for the garden center have three venue regulars.

With the match draw time there was time for the anglers to have a walk around the lake and observe the hundreds of carp in the margins all around the lake and hopes of plenty of carp never really materialised because as soon as the match started the carp drifted off towards the middle of the lake. Today started off sunny turning cloudy after two hours with a southern breeze breeze blowing out of the big lake into the small lake so it was not a great day for me to draw peg 18 on the motorway bank. The story of the match was after a slow start they carp decided to have a feed with the anglers in the big lake and on the car park bank having good action as the match went on with the anglers in the small lake stuggling due to it being shallower and the water colder.

The prized trophy on offer for the victors.

As John and I were fishing in the same team it was decided that our season battle would be suspended for one match only and the megafone would be set to silent for 5 hours { that was a result after my performance today }. On my side of the lake I had Andy for company on peg 16 and he told me he had never caught a 100lb of fish but today he smashed it with his weight of 141-08 of carp to double figures all caught on maggot fished on the slope down the grass bank down to his right { well done Andy ]. Also a well done goes to section A winner Barry who put a good weight of 89-12 from peg 9 with a catch of carp and bream and to Brian who put the third ton weight of the day from peg 22 by fishing about 9 to 10 metres down the right had margins.

The winner today overall was John Bennett who after a very slow start managed to get the carp lined up by fishing just down the shelf but not at the bottom of it and by using paste today he caught a very good stamp of big carp to 18lb in his final weight of 158-00 and just ahead of Paul.

Paul was fishing peg 8 in the gap between the two parts of the lake and by rotating between the 8 metre line straight out in front from where I could see and the bush to his left Paul also managed to catch big carp on 8mm banded pellet for his weight of 151-00.

The teams starting to assemble.

I can see you.

I am not saying my peg is solid but !!.

I would like to say a big thank you to Dave and Fred for inviting John, Paul and myself on the match today and also a big thanks to the anglers for fishing the match in good spirits with plenty of banter and also showing the regulars how weighing in 21 anglers can only take 25 minutes if everyone gets involved. Also a very well done to Chinnor angling club in retaining their trophy for another year in which was a very close match with anglers gaining PB’s in both match weights and sizes of fish caught which just shows what can happen in any match down at Rolfslake.

Rolfslake Saturday 14th April 2012

First i would like to thank Paul Corsini for giving lake owner John Bennett a new toy to play with in the shape of a megafone complete with a siren, which was tested on me on my arrival at the lake. As i got out of my car the one person that i had not seen by the hut was John and i now know why because he was hiding in the bushes ready to shout my name much to the amusement of the rest of the anglers.

Today was quite mild but with a breeze blowing from the small lake to the big lake so there was not as many crusing carp to spot as there have been and with such a late decision to hold an open the 10 anglers decided that todays match was going to be a walk off so a low draw was going to be essential. As the draw was called for a change i decided to draw second and as i opened my hand was dissapointed to see number 7 , my main challenge was John and with a big smile on his face could only mean one thing that he had drawn would you believe number 1.

John decided to draw peg 32 by the hut as it had shown some form of late but was more interested where I was going to fish and as i had said the big lake the rest of the anglers also followed suit but when it was my turn changed my mind and chose peg 6 in the small lake to see if I could do better than my last match on peg 6. The story of the match was for most anglers it turned out to be a struggle as the wind and the tow caused presentation problems if you fished longer than 5 metres and as it got colder towards the end of the match the bites dried up for most of the anglers.

In first place today was me Eddie Tayor-Green who was fishing in the small lake on my favourite peg 6 but it was very cold and not far enough away from the megafone as i kept hearing from John everytime I hooked a carp and that was quite a few times today. I was trying a variation to my X4 paste mix which I think is now complete to use in cold and warm water conditions as every bite I had today resulted in the float sailing away every time and in some cases the pole was pulled around. I fished two areas a 12 metre line straight out facing peg 36 and a long margin line towards peg 5 and caught fish to 16-08 in my final weight of 102-08 { well done Eddie}.

Another win for the Pirate.

In second place was Paul Jay who you guessed it was on peg 18 again , so it now only takes him 5 minutes to set up as all his rigs are already plumbed up and ready to go. Paul today managed to catch a few on the waggler and the rest on the pole and like me had fish to mid doubles caught on 8mm banded pellet fished on the deck for his weight of 88-12, which maintained his good run of frames recently.

Second place Paul Jay.

In third place was my website partner in crime Simon Mound who tells me he started on the bomb and ended fishing the pole using 11mm banded donkey choker pellet feeding 4mm pellet which caught fish to over 18lb ,but the wind and tow in this area played havoc with Simons float presentation but he still managed to get a few carp to feed and after 5 hours put a hard earned 73-04 on the scales to complete a first and third for the bloggers.

Rolfslake Wednesday Open 11th April 2011.

The Crocodile makes his third appearance in a week.

After the three day Easter festival that was won by Mark Maylin, the anglers were hoping that with fewer anglers on the lake today that the carp would have a proper feed . With a frost the previous two mornings thing were only going to get worse for the unlucky 13 as John tells me that it started sunny and warm turning windy and then all hell broke loose as there was thunder and hailstones so just another day down the lake.

In first place today was Paul Jay who we now think is from another planet as no human could draw the amount of flyers as he does, as today he drew peg 18 on the motorway bank with the wind blowing into his corner with fish topping. John tells me that Paul caught on the waggler and pole fishing banded pellet and caught carp to double figures for his final weight of 129-00 {well done Paul }.

In second place a having a good run was Dai Thomas who had drawn opposite to Paul on peg 22 on the carp park bank, and after catching his first carp at 21-04 went on to putting a good bag of carp together on what John believes was pole fished with pellet hookbait fished on the deck for his final weight and second ton of the day with 107-00. Completing the frame was lake owner John Bennett who was on iffy peg 8, and after failing to find any of Mark Newbolds tackle from last week told me that after a slow start he tried fishing 16 metres across with little success. On feeding a few more pellets at 16 metres he saw some fish swirling so he baited with a 11mm donkey choker pellet shipped out and as soon as the float settled it shot away, thinking it was a carp got ready to land it only to find the pet crocodile or pike looking up at him. The pike was the same one that Clive and Chris had caught last week as it had the same markings but this time weighed in at 13-08 but John also had a 4-08 chub to go eventually with some carp in his weight of 68-04 and a rather mixed bag for John.
