Easter Festival day 1

Today saw day 1 of the Easter Festival and 21 eager anglers arrived at the lake hoping to dethrone two time Festival champion Steve Waters.

The Festival is divided into three sections, A which is in the small lake, B which is the middle bowl and C the bottom end of the lake.

The angler that wins his section gets 1 point and the angler that comes last in section recieves 7 points etc with the angler that has the lowest points score over 3 days becoming the Festival winner.

With the draw completed the anglers went off to their respective sections with A section being named the section of death by the anglers as it contained all the regulars who were going to take points off each other.

The anglers today were greeted with a strong gusting wind and rain which made fishing the long pole really difficult for most of the guys in the big lake. The first two hours were pretty slow for most but as the wind died down more and more anglers could be seen playing fish and it became really close at the end in sections A and C.

In A section there was a three way battle between Dan on 34 ,Mick on 2 and Mark on 7 who all had good numbers of carp but would see the 6 carp Dan Deakin lost opening the way for Mark Newbold to win the section with his weight of 79-11.

In B section Anthony Flint on peg 10 seemed to be controlling the section for the first three hours but a number of lost carp halted his progress

The combination of Malc Doyle on 32 changing to fishing paste and his aggressive feeding  switched the lead in the last two hours, Malc had a total of 10 proper bites resulting in 5 fish for 75-14 to Anthony’s 36-07.

C section saw the Champion for the last two years Steve Waters draw little fancied peg 26 which meant he was going to have a real battle to win an unprecedented third title and after 5 hours salvaged a hard earnt 3 points .Current Champion Steve Waters.

The main battle was between Phil Powell on peg 24 and Colmic sponsored Chris Telling on peg 17 (which I would not of fancied in the wind). Phil started really well building a solid weight for the first three hours catching 10 carp on a bottom rig fishing pellet feeding pellet, but the peg dried up for the next two hours and Phil ended up with 96-07 and 2 points.

Chris however spent the early part of the match losing a few carp, but towards the end he was really flying catching about 12 carp.

Chris fished a 6mm pellet on the hook feeding the same over the top to the record the top weight of 104-06 and the all important 1 point.

Day two see’s the anglers move one section up so if you fished C section you go to A and A goes to B etc and with the weather due to be getting worse it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Roll on day 2.
