Rolfslake Pairs Series Round 6 28th February 2016

20120908_170548

Round 6 the final countdown.

Today saw the final round of the spring series where anyone of 3 teams were in with a chance of Champions glory.

Today saw the anglers greeted with a cold blustery day with the wind coming from the East which made long distance pole fishing quite difficult and with the colder weather it also slowed the carp from feeding in any numbers.

The story of the day was both Andy and Anthony and Dan and Gavin needed the long time leaders Steve and Derek to draw bad and not catch which rarely happens. Both the chasing teams drew quite well with Andy drawing peg 38 the scene of his shocking result from round 2 but today won the silver section with a great silver weight of 24-13. Andy’s partner Anthony had a real struggle catching a solitary carp 1 minute from the end which weighed 7-13 and with that their chance of glory disappeared .

That left only one team to try and catch the leaders ( Dan and Gavin )and quite oddly drew next to each on pegs 13 and 14 and although both caught fish they ended near midway in their respective sections for a total of 8 points.

That left Steve and Derek having to have a nightmare to lose the series but as it has been for the previous 5 rounds they drew fair pegs and made the most of them with Steve winning the carp section from peg 7 with 46-14 and Derek coming 4th in his section.

With their total of 5 points today they could not be caught and won a very competitive series to be crowned Rolfslake Spring Pairs Champions 2016 ( well done guys ).

Rolfslake Sunday Open 21st February 2016

20130501_140816

Top silvers weight of the year set on today’s match.

Today saw a low attendance but what the anglers missed was a silver fishing masterclass by Drennan sponsored angler Steve Waters.

Steve fished peg 32 by the cafe a fished a variety of lines to catch a stunning bag of roach and about 12 bream to record the highest silvers weight of the year.

Steve caught on the deck fishing pellet for the bream and casters at various depths for the roach in his final bag of 63-02 and a bag any angler would be proud of.

In second place was Micheal Corsini who also had a great day on the silvers with his weight of 30-02 which included a solitary carp.

If you fancy a great day getting plenty of bites then get down to the lake a catch a super bag of silvers.

Really cold day down the lake

Todays match saw the anglers have to endure a really cold day and 5 hours of rain so umbrellas were the order of the day.

There were two matches on display today ,the first the anglers that wanted to fish for silvers and get lots of bites and the others that would wait it out for the carp of which there were 10 caught.

The winner of today’s match and continuing his good run of framing was Martin Worrell who sat it out on peg 16 and was rewarded with 5 carp and a couple of bream for his weight of 49-15

( well done Martin).

Martin fished the bomb and corn and after seeing many indications through liners had 5 carp in the last hour for which he said “they are only small “on lifting his net out of the water they all averaged about 9 lb I think not.

Winning the silvers pool was Guru backed Pete Archer on peg 26 who after wasting the first hour and a half fishing for bream in which he only caught one got his head down to target the roach shoal in front of him.

Pete fished both caster and maggot to catch roach to 12 ounces which boosted his weight to a very hard earned 18-08.

There is an open this weekend see details on front page for draw times.

Rolfslake Pairs Series Round 5 14th February

20120908_170548

Another cold day down the lake.

Today saw the anglers return for round 5 and with three teams in with a real chance of winning the series it was imperative to have a good draw for both anglers.

The story of today saw the anglers in the carp section struggle for bites with the easterly cold wind and high water level putting the fish off feeding but Gavin Millis managed to secure a few for his weight of 23-10 and one point.

In the silvers section Steve Waters drew unpredictable peg 38 in the small lake and with the conditions favourable to fish the long pole Steve started by fishing just off the bottom rising to the top to catch roach on caster for a very good 26-08 and again beating the top carp weight.

As far as the teams on the day Dan and Gavin were top with 5 points to go joint 2nd in the league with both Andy and Anthony and Steve and Derek both scoring 6 points to keep the gap still at 6 points.

With only one round to go it would take a massive effort from the two chasing teams and a poor draw for Steve and Derek to really close the points gap but as we have seen already anything can happen.

Roll on round 6 in two weeks time.
