Rolfslake Open Wednesday 9th January 2013

A very cold day down the lake.

Today there were 6 anglers fishing the match and 4 pleasure anglers in the small lake so at least everyone had a little space, but for the three luck anglers on the car park bank { Pete, John and me } it was very cold.

The match started off very slow with the odd few silvers coming out and with Pete on peg 24 foulhooking a carp in the tail and losing it there was not much going on in the first hour. It was at this point that Pete decided to start catching silvers and was catching roach every put in but this changed when I on peg 22 caught a carp fishing 12 metres fishing corn hook bait and this put me in front. After that all of the 6 anglers went long and were rewarded with carp even though it was not frantic by any stretch even with the carp cruising on the surface playing hard to catch.

Todays winner was Pete Archer on peg 24 who started on the tip with no success apart from a lost carp, but after that caught a mixed bag of 10lb of silvers caught in about an hour and 5 carp . Pete fished long about 14 metres into the middle of the lake and was feeding 2mm pellet and the odd grain of corn fishing on the deck to catch his carp and after a patient 5 hours was rewarded with his weight of 56-14 for another win { well done Pete }.

Todays winner Pete Archer off peg 24.

Firstly we would like to again wish all our friends, customers and their families a happy New Year.

Today match was poorly attended due to the cold weather and high water levels in the lake { at least two feet higher } which John has been doing his best to pump out to reduce the water level.

Todays winner was me { Eddie Taylor-Green } who fished peg 13 on the motorway bank using a 3 metre whip fished tight to the edge using triple maggot as hookbait to catch a mixed bag of silvers for 11-05. In second place was Nick Watkins-Price who was fishing peg 28 on the car park bank and by using pole and maggot Nick also caught some nice big Perch and roach for his weight of 9-12.

Second place for Nick today.

Rolfslake match 7th November 2012.

Just to bring you back to earth.

John tells me that the anglers endured another tough day down the lake with a north westerly wind blowing across the lake from the car park again switching most of the carp off from feeding. There were a few carp caught today and they were big { Paul Jay caught one at 17lb } which is typical for this time of the year down the lake as the small carp of 8lb switch off and the big ones feed.

Todays winner was John Bennett who was pegged by the tea ern ,i mean peg 30 and he caught 3 carp for 31lb and 10lb of silvers by fishing the bomb with corn and the pole with corn and maggot to catch a mixed bag of carp to 16lb and bream for his winning weight of 41-04.

Todays winner John Bennett with a typical cold weather carp.

On a final note i hope you all got a chance to watch fishing gurus that was screened yesterday on Sky Sports featuring Dean Macey filmed down at Rolfs lake a couple of weeks ago. On a very cold day Dean fished a roving style on both the method { only allowed for this feature } and the float and all the carp he caught were in fantastic condition and all double figures { well done Dean}.

Sky Sports Guru presenter Dean Macey.

At times you might not catch lots of carp down Rolfslake but the ones you do will be in mint condition and fight like crazy.

Rolfslake Saturday Open 3rd November 2012.

A super hard day down the lake .

Today the anglers were greeted with a hard frost and cold weather which put the carp totally off feeding , and with the anglers hoping to catch at least one carp in a match carp carp lake wasted far to much time for no end result.

The winner today was Steve Waters who would of won the match without the 15lb carp he caught just before the end of the match because he had already caught nearly 14lb of  roach and skimmers fishing worm and maggots and he believes had he not wasted time trying to catch the carp he could of caught near to 30lb as there were plenty of silvers out there. After 5 hours Steve weighed 28-15 and beat his nearest rival by 20lb { well done Steve ].

In second place was Mick Chapell fishing motorway bank peg 18 and by fishing long down the edge towards peg 19 he managed to keep puting silvers into his net and one big perch of 2-08 which on a day like today was a big bonus in his weight of 8-03. The three way battle for third was eventually won by Adam Griffiths on peg 13 with his two big bream helping him to his final weight of 6-03.
