Todays match was fished in very wet conditions with a a gusting wind but surprisingly the lake fished better than yesterday and very good for mid October with 7 ton plus weights .
Todays winner was Chris Lovelock who was fishing peg 22 at the bottom of the big lake on the carpark bank and John tells me that Chris caught at 6 metres and down the edge towards the left bush and was rewarded with fish to double figures by fishing pellet hookbait and feeding pellet and after 5 hours his total was 185-10 for another win down the lake.
The battle for second place was in the small lake between Derek Hammond on peg 38 and John Draper on peg 4 which was won by Derek with 165-12 to John’s 143-03 and after the match John Bennett tells me that there were loads of carp feeding down the edge which considering how cold it was bears well for Wednesday.

Today Experience fishing of Newbury had an open invitation for their customers and invited guests to come and experience a days fishing down at Rolfslake to see if they could catch a few of the big carp that had been coming out recently.
Co owner Dave Ridgely had very kindly offered a Maver rod as a prize to the winner of todays match so it turned out to be a little more than a pleasure fishing day for the anglers with the usual banter that these matches bring in full force at the draw.
The day was cold and breezy which certainly slowed the fishing down but there were still very big fish coming out topped by Dai Thomas’s common carp of 20-12 { well done Dai } which looked at least 25lb when he walked past me.
The fishing started slow with most anglers struggling but later in the match it turned sunny which seemed to switch the fish on if only for a short while and the most to profit from this was todays winner Dai Thomas on peg 10 and although he did not catch alot of carp the ones that he did were very big and it did not take many to add up to his final weight of 100-09 and win the Maver rod { well done Dai }.
There was a four way battle for for second between Malc Doyle, Micheal Corsini, John Bennett and me on peg 9 and the key factor in this battle was who caught th most silvers to back there carp weight which was eventually won by John with his 20lb of skimmers bringing his weight to 71-11 to fend off Malc on 68 and Micheal and me on 66.
The anglers enjoyed their day and there will be a silvers only match in early November for invited guests so this should be very interesting so watch this space for more information.

Gain a point lose a point.
Todays match was also included in our seasons battle with John fishing peg 22 to my peg 9 and with John opting to catch all species to my targeting carp which made all the difference as his 20lb of silvers added to his carp went to 71-11 to my all carp weight of 66-04 with John winning by just 5lb { well done John }.

See what happens when you arrive late.
Firstly i would like to appologise for the lack of match reports recently as this is due to me starting a new job and Simon being very busy and with both of us having very little spare time to write up these reports, and i will now work on catching up with these so please be patient.
Today saw the arrival of the newer early start time as the draw is now 12 O’clock as the night are drawing in quickly and with the draw called there were only two pegs left in the bag so when i drew my peg out i had peg 9 leaving the last peg in the bag for Derek Hammond which was peg 14 on the motorway bank.
The day started sunny turning very cold within the first hour and eventually started raining about and hour from the end and that reflected on the the fish caught early on as it was very slow for most except for John Draper on peg 10 who was flying at the start with a quick few fish and Vic who was fishing peg 26 using an 18 foot rod just by the bush to his left. For the rest it was a waiting game as the fish eventually turned up late on in the match and most anglers caught close to a ton.
In first place today was Derek Hammond who had Mrs Hammond for company today and he tells me that he fished at short range and down the left margin towards peg 15 fishing pellet hookbait and feeding 6mm pellet to catch some big carp to 17lb { with his board weight going 135lb } in his winning weight of 184-03 and just one carp clear of the second place angler { well done Derek }.
In second place was me Eddie who was on peg 9 and after a frustrating two hours managed to get a few carp lined up fishing paste only feeding 6mm pellet. The only disappointment was losing what looked to be my first twenty pounder in the bush to my right after a 10 minute battle and which resulted in a smashed top kit and a few choice words. I settled down to catch about 17 carp in total for my final weight of 169-07.
In third place was the resident angler Dai Thomas who was fishing the fridge peg 13 as it got no sun on it at all and was Dai tells me he was freezing all match but still managed to catch carp on 8mm pellet fished on the deck feeding 6mm to record his weight of 130-04 to steal the section win off John Draper by 1-01 .

The battle of the two flyers .
Today i had the pleasure for a change of actually competing against John with a equally fair peg as he was on flyer peg 32 and i was on peg 9 and apart from the fishing there was going to be plenty of banter going across the gap. In the first two hours i hooked and lost a few fish as did John but he kept reminding me that i was wasting another good peg and as i turned around to get something from my bag little did I know John had had cast into my peg.
As i was watching John untangle his pole rig his rod nearly jumped of his rest into the lake as he got a bite and at the same time i saw a massive swirl in my margin and thought get your rig out quickly Ed but i was wondering why John was laughing at me and after the match i found out why, but he still got smashed at the net by this fish so justice was done. The same thing happened to Graham Ridgeley on peg 18 but he was not so lucky as he took his eyes of his rod for a moment and it cleared the rest and went in to the lake and if it was not for the quick thinking Paul Jay who had got the grappling rod and hooked Grahams rod it would of been bye bye .
I digress after falling 4 carp behind to John who was fishing the bomb in all areas of the gap and down the edge i managed to get a few bites on the paste and eventually a few fish and towards the end i was flying as about 20 carp were in the margins sheltering from the cold wind that had picked up later in the match.
After 5 hours the banter had stopped from Johns side of the lake as his carp had gone 99-03 to my 169-07 in what was an enjoyable afternoon down the lake for both of us.
