Rolfslake Pairs series Jan 2015

The start of the Rolfslake Pairs Series 2015.

Today saw the anglers gathered down the lake on a cold but sunny January morning to start the 6 match pairs series which would see each of the anglers in their pairs fish for carp and the other for silvers in their respective sections.

The sections for the silvers were going to be 36 and 38 in the small lake and 9,10, 13, 28, 30 and 32 in the big lake. The carp section would be 34 and 7 in the small lake and 14,16,18, 22,24 and 26 in the big lake. In order to make things interesting the anglers that fish the carp section would also allow them to weigh in silvers so to eliminate blanks if the carp did not feed thus giving them a combined weight.

The first hour of the match would see only one carp caught from where i was sitting and that was Ernie on peg 26 but the silver anglers were straight into fish on most pegs with John on peg 9 and Anthony on 16 snaring an early bream each to start building their weights.

The winners of the two sections { Silver’s section } were Steve Palmer from peg 38 in the small lake who just held off Doug Robinson on peg 32 with his weight of 15-11 to Doug’s 15-10 and {Carp Section } John Hagues with a great weight on a cold day of 63-11 off peg 24.

For the final results of the day please see below.

Rolfslake Open Sunday 28th December 2014

A very Cold day down the lake.

Today saw 11 hardy anglers down the lake in which was a very cold day for the anglers on pegs 22 to 28 and slightly less colder for the anglers on the motorway bank. The story of the match was after a very quick fish from John after 5 seconds of going in it was a game of being patient as the odd carp were prepared to feed even though it must of been zero degrees.

The story of the match was that there were a few carp caught around the lake with Russ on peg 34 catching 4 carp for 39-13 to come second with Toby Pope very close behind with also 4 carp but this time they weighed only 34-08 and a few others also caught the odd carp but todays winner was Steve Pope on peg 18 in the corner.

Steve caught around 7 carp for his final weight of 72-15 which was a great weight considering how cold it was and Steve caught his fish fishing long down his left hand edge at the end of the bush and by fishing on the deck he managed to catch his carp and even lost 3 carp but was well clear of second place in what ended up a tough match {well done Steve}.

The curse of the Pirate comes to haunt JB.

With today being the last match of 2014 for me and John in our annual series it was all down to this last match to see if John could win the series overall or if I could claw my way back to draw after being 10-5 down . On a very cold day I was greeted within 5 seconds of the match starting with John shouting at me from across the lake as he was into his first carp of the day at around 11lb so it was going to be a very long 5 hours in the cold.

The great news for me was that was John’s last carp of the match and together with a last gasp bream gave him a final weight of 14-11.

As for me it was case of being patient and with my Colmic rod making a rare appearance and nearly its last as it nearly went in such was the violent bite i had from a 9lb carp and then it was  just sorting my long pole line out which i did missing about 10 bites on corn but more importantly hooking and landing another carp of 9lb and together with a lone perch weighed 18-14 to record the important point to draw the series with John after 20 matches this year.

I would like to thank the anglers that have been interested in our battle and more importantly to John for his good natured banter and encouragement even though throughout the year  we been unwell or injured at some stage of this battle but we still kept it going so well done John.

To draw with one of the top anglers down the lake is a great feat so well done the Pirate.

Rolfslake Winter league 21st December 2014.

The final Round and all to play for.

With a full attendance today it was going to be a close run thing to see who were going to be crowned Winter league Champions 2014 and who were going to win to race for third place as it was very close. With the day fairly cold the lake lookded lifeless except for the odd fish crashing in C section which today would see John Bennett And Steve Stayte fishing end pegs 18 and 22.

In A section Geoff Edwards would see himself drawn down on peg 40 and Pat Pritchard his main rival on peg 5 but both were upstaged by a brilliant winter catch of bream from Doug Robinson from moody peg 38 as he put 34-13 on the scales to beat Jim McCann’s carp weight of 32-07 {well done Doug}.

In B section saw the Seat Box Appreciation Society’s Kev Dolton peg 28 sitting next to his team mate Ian McCulloch on peg 26 but in C section and both struggled to catch any fish in numbers for their worst score in 6 rounds as they came last and second last in section allowing their main rivals to grow their points lead in todays match.

Star performer of the day was John Bennett on peg 18 who put a fantastic weight of winter carp on the scales and even had the luxury of losing 8 fish but that did not matter as he put 137-08 of fish on the scales to not only have top weight on the day but help his team to be crowned champions together with help from his team mates Geoff Edwards and Stuart Yeomans {very well done guys }

The Three Amigo’s Rolfslake Winter League Champions 2014

The battle for third place was eventually won by The Misfits well done guys.

After the match Pauline and John treated the guys to chicken and chips and then there was a raffle and a special visit from Santa.

Winter League round 4 6th December 2014

The Battle for the title is hotting up.

With the weather a little milder than yesterdays minus zero temperatures there was a little hope that the fish would feed today but John tells me it was very tough for most anglers in round four of the winter league.

The top two teams have now opened up a big gap on third place and with two rounds to go looks like a two horse race but today The Seat Box Appreciation Society had a tough draw with pegs  40, 30 and 26 drawn compared to their draw of pegs 7,9 and 26. The main battle for these two team took place in the dreaded A section where steve Waters had draw peg 40 at the bottom of the small lake and was rewarded with a hard earnt silvers catch of11-08 only to be beaten by one ounce by Rob Woodwood with one carp of 11-09.

John Bennett in this section was on peg 7 and he caught 5 carp and a couple of bream to gain a few points on Steve but in sections B and C the points were shared.

After 4 rounds there are only two points seperating the top two teams with a three way tie for third place.

Roll on round 5.

Rolfslake Saturday Open 29th November 2014

Very cold day down the lake.

Today there were only 7 anglers fishing the open on what started a fair day getting very cold towwards the end but it did not stop runaway winner Maurice Woodley on peg 9.

Maurice fished maggot and pellet towards the bush to his right and caught a good stamp of carp to double figures to weight a very hard earnt ton plus weight on a day the other anglers struggled.

Todays winner Maurice.
