Rolfslake Wednesday Open 25th March 2015

A chilly day down the lake.

After a few days of mild weather it was disappointing to see it get much colder in todays midweek open. It was decided to not peg the two current form pegs 18 and 22 giving hopefully the pegs a rest and hopefully move the fish up through the big lake.

As the match started there were literally 100’s of carp cruising around on the top eating the blossom that was falling of the bushes on the carpark bank but at least you  could see your target for a change.

The story of the match with a top carp weight and a top silver weight it gave the anglers a choice of what they wanted to target and the top weight of silvers today went to Pat Pritchard on peg 8. Pat tells me that had he had more than a half pint of casters he could of pushed his weight to over 40lb as when he ran out and fished maggots the roach got much smaller in size , but he still managed a nice mixed bag of chub, bream, perch and roach for his weight of 26-14.

Winning the carp match was Graham Ridgely on peg 24 on the car park bank and Graham fished the bomb both down the edge and towards peg 22 where there were stacks of cruising carp and many more down below to catch his 8 carp to double figures for his weight of 74-09 {well done Graham }.

A few photos from today’s match.

Rolfslake Sunday Open 22nd March 2015

The Carp start to show in todays match.

Today saw a much improved attendance with 23 eager anglers hoping that the Rolfslake carp would start to make an appearance. The good thing today was that the anglers were going to be properly spread around both the big and small lake and that in turn would start to move the fish about and hopfully away from the flyer pegs 18 and 22 which had show great consistency these last 8 weeks.

Alas today was no different as on a sunny and warm day but with a cool breeze all it did was to bring the previously dormant carp back to life but only to torment the anglers and sunbathe all around the lake.

Todays winner was Kev Simpson who had drawn form peg 18 on the motorway bank and Kev had an enjoyable day no doubt catching and losing a few but caught carp to double figures in his final weight of 145-01 {well done Kev}. In second place and having a good view of Kev was lake regular Derek Hammond on opposite peg 22 and Derek also had fish to double figures in his weight of 100-03.

As is always the case prior to the forthcoming Easter festival the carp have started to wake up and I expect to see the weight really move on in the next week or so as we are now starting to get some settled weather so get down if you fancy catching a big carp or ton plus weight now should be the time for that.

A very tough day down the lake

Today saw 7 anglers down the lake on a sunny mild day which was a bit of a suprise as it was probably the best weekend to date this year. The lake has currently been suffering with increased cold water covering the platforms and John and Pauline have been working very hard trying keeping the lake at a reasonable level. With the water being quite cold at the moment it seems it is affecting the carp into not feeding in any numbers at the moment and the lake was motionless during the match with no signs of carp in the big lake except for Kev Dolton who managed to catch the only carp of the day from peg 13 by fishing into the bay near peg 11.

The winner today was lake owner John Bennett who after searching for carp by fishing the bomb and corn then decided to fish for silvers and was rewarded with roach and at least 5 big perch to nealy 2lb plus a bream in his hard earned weight of 20-01 and well clear of the chasing pack. The race for second was won by Kev Dolton who managed a late carp to keep him just ahead of Doug Robinson with his weight of 13-12 to Dougs 13-01.

With the Easter festival fast approaching we expect the carp to switch on in the next couple of weeks as the weather is due to be more settled and the club match that was held on Sunday was won with 40lb plus and there were carp caught by a few of the anglers so things are starting to look up.

The festival places are now full with John now adding names to the reserve list so please can the remaining anglers that have booked please confirm your places in the next week or so { thank you }.

Rolfslake Wednesday Open 18th February 2015

20130501_140816

Cold and tough day down the lake.

Today saw a very tough day down the lake with only 8 carp caught and a few silvers if you were on the car park bank with the fish being put off by the additional cold water going into the lake and the hard frost the night before.

Todays match was won by Doug Hill who was fishing peg 18 in the top corner of the big lake and Doug caught his fish fishing the bomb into peg 19 using bunches of maggots and corn to catch his 6 carp to double figures for his final weight of 51-08 and the first victory down the lake { well done Doug }. In second place was John Bennett on peg 14 who managed 2 carp and a few silvers for his weight of 17-15closely followed by Pat Pritchard who was fishing peg 28 with an all silvers catch of 11-03.

Rolfslake Easter Festival 2015

Rolfslake Easter Festival 2015

Rolfslake’s Easter festival will this year take place on Saturday , Sunday and Monday the 4th, 5th and 6th of April.

The cost to enter will be the same as 2014 which will be £120 covering the 3 days of fishing including pools.

The Festival is Pole Only.

The match is limited to 24 places and is first come first served.

A non refundable £30 deposit is required by the 22nd of March to confirm your place and any angler who has not done either will have his place released to the first person on the reserve list.

There will be as usual a Good Friday Open prior to the three day match.

All anglers interested in fishing must contact John Bennett directly to reserve a place.

The annual festival is fished in goods spirits with a great bunch of anglers and is usually a very competitive right up to the last day so this makes for a good competition and last year was won by Drennan sponsored Steve Waters and no angler to date has retained their title so could it be this year.

Steve Waters 2014 Easter Festival Champion.
