Rolfslake Wednesday Open 22nd March 2017.

All seasons in 5 hours.

Down at Rolfslake today the anglers had to bear horrendous weather with rain , sleet, hailstones plus a very cold wind.

For comfort it was decided to fish the motorway bank except if you were on pegs 8 and 10 then you had the rain straight in your face.

The story of the day was with high water levels and ice cold water it seemed to slow the fishing down, with most anglers struggling for bites.

Today’s winner was John Bennett who was stuggling to get bites on the pole but when he switched to the bomb it was a different story.

John switched between corn and pellet to catch 4 carp and 2 bream for his weight of 34-02 and the win ( well done John ).

In second place was Andy Rayment who was fishing next to John on peg 14. Again Andy struggled for bites due to the gusting wind, but when he fished a shorter line Andy had the swim fizzing like a Jacuzzi. Andy managed to catch 3 carp and a few silvers for his weight of 31-04.

Andy Rayment.

Completing the frame was me (Eddie) on a very cold peg 4. After getting broke by a carp first put in I struggled for bites but eventually found 3 carp and a few silvers fishing down the edge fishing corn feeding pellet for my weight of 21-12.

Rolfslake Open 19th March 2017

Cold blowy day down the lake.

Today saw 9 anglers turn up on a cold and very windy day to fish today’s match.

With the anglers spread around the lake on all the feature pegs hoping they would have both a few fish and some shelter out of the wind.

Today winner was Tony Rowe who was fishing peg 2 at the bottom of the small lake where the wind was blowing in to. Tony fished in front of peg 3’s platform where he found fish waiting and by using pellet and corn he caught carp to double figures in his weight of 88-06.

Today’s winner Tony Rowe.

In second place was me who was fishing my new favourite peg 14 on the motorway bank. After starting on the top 2 catching silvers I then hooked a carp and then lost the next two.

A switch to my right hand bush fishing corn hookbait and feeding maggots resulted in 7 more carp to 19lb losing 7 in my final weight of 81-11.

Second place for Eddie.

Completing the frame was John Bennett on peg 10 who also beneffited from the wind blowing into his bank. After a couple of fish fishing short , John then went long infront of peg 11 where he caught another 8 carp. As with most anglers today John lost a lot of fish but  he was happy with his weight of 79-13 although he would of loved 2lb more.

Third place for John Bennett.

John has allowed the retention of all fish during the colder months whilst the fishing has been slower, but the rule of weighing of fish over 10lb will soon be restored.

The exception of this will be the forthcoming Easter festival.

Rolfslake Wednesday Open 8th February 2017

Carp very active in today’s match.

Today saw another low attendance in these midweek sweeps due to the cold weather.

The day was cold with very little wind and it was decided to have a walk off match so the anglers could choose there own flyer peg for five hours.

Today was the best match of the year and a very close one from both ends if the lake.

The winner but only just was Andy Rayment on form peg 18 on the motorway bank. Andy fished a combination of waggler and long pole down the left hand edge, fishing and feeding pellet for 10 carp for 92-06.

Very close behind with 9 fish but bigger fish was John Bennett fishing peg 38. Being handicapped with a sore shoulder John opted to fish bomb only with sweetcorn hookbait, which resulted in carp to 17lb in his weight of 90-08.

In third place was me on peg 14 for the 4th time in 5 weeks so I should of done better today. Fishing maggots and corn I managed 5 carp and lost 7 for my weight of 42-03.

As soon as the matches change to pm matches watch the weights rocket and it should only be a matter of time before the first ton weight is recorded.

Pictures from today’s match.

Today’s winner Andy Rayment.

Second placed John Bennett
