Rolfslake Christmas match 17th December 2017

Rolfslake Christmas Match

Today saw 15 anglers gathered at Rolfslake looking at a frozen lake which had been partly been broken up by John and a few of the anglers.

With the draw done the anglers were seen breaking up the ice to the required distance they wanted to fish, but with the wind swirling the floating ice pieces would cause difficulties during the match.

All the anglers today brought a wrapped gift which would be raffled by peg numbers at the end so everyone would be a winner .

On a difficult cold and rainy day any angler who could fish to a feature would have a great chance and today Steve Waters was one of the anglers.

Fishing peg 34 along the rope Steve managed to catch about 7 carp fishing at full depth to claim victory with his winning weight of 56-06 .

In second place and right opposite Steve was Jeff Bond on peg 7 who manged a couple of big carp on the tip for his weight of 28-00.

The anglers would like to thank John and Pauline for preparing a lovely buffet after the match which was appreciated by all.

As for me, after a tough day on peg 10 at least I won the Christmas hamper for the second year running so I defended my lucky streak for another year.

May on behalf of John and Pauline Bennett ,Simon and myself wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Rolfslake Wednesday Open 22nd November 2017

A windy day down the lake.

It was great to be back down the lake after a gap of 5 weeks due to work.

Today saw 10 anglers eager to catch some fish with different strategies on display with most fishing out for carp and a couple targeting the silvers.

With a very strong gusting wind making presentation very difficult today was a waiting game.

I saw a funny thing today as a postman was seen delivering mail to John Bennett on peg 14 as he has been camped there the last 6 weeks lol.

The match started slowly as the conditions were difficult except for Dave Wilsden and Pete Archer who were happy amassing a good silver weight, which after 5 hours was just won by Pete with his weight of 17-15 to Daves 16-09.

The winner of today’ match and continuing his great form was John Bennett on peg 14. John fished corn feeding pellet on his right hand edge and had 9 carp to just 10lb to just stay ahead by 7lb or so ( well done JB).

In second place was Doug Hill on peg 9 .

Doug fished really well to the bush to his right and using maggot and worm hookbait feeding pellet caught 8 carp again to double figures but his weight of 65-04 at least won his his section .

In third place was me on 32 and after fishing down the chanel I thought I had hooked a carp but when it surfaced at the net was a big pike which broke me.

I ended up catching 2 carp and 4 bream and a few big bream fishing corn feeding micros for my weight of 31-01.

The carp are still very active as Taff in the small lake had 8 to 17lb fishing peg 38.

Today’s winner John Bennett.

An hour down the lake.

Last week Rolfslake had the pleasure of inviting down previous lake owner Rolfs’s brother Karl-Hienz for an hours fishing.

John with Rolf and his brother Karl Hienz and his son Andre. This photo was taken 12 years ago.

The reason that he were visiting Waterperry, was to attend the funeral of both Rolfs and Karl Hienz’s step dad Peter.

John and Karl Hienz had a pleasant hours fishing catch a few fish  before he returned back to Germany.

Safe journey back to Germany with best wishes for the future and stay well from all at Rolfslake.
