Rolfslake Wednesday Open 19th September 2012
When will superstar Simon’s victory run end ?.
With a gathering of 13 anglers attending todays match there was hope that with Simon Mounds absence today at least someone else would win a match for a change ,but that was dashed half an hour later as Simon and his black Focus rolled into the carpark and those smiling faces earlier were gone. On phoning John during the match he told me that most of the anglers were struggling in the big lake with 3 carp winning it in there and in the small lake the anglers were catching only slightly better.
The weather was warm sunny but a cold breeze turned the carp off their feeding in the big lake with the anglers having to fish out from the margins and into the deeper water which made for a longer wait for a bite than usual.
In first place today AGAIN and on a winining streak that has lasted on and off for two months was Rolfslake.com co-owner Simon Mound who was fresh from last weekends two day festival victoryand if Simon had not come 6th in last Fridays night match then he would of been on his 7th victory in a row a dominant streak not seen for many years, and in todays match he won by a clear 150lb.
Simon today was in the small lake on the carpark bank peg 4 and by fishing just two short lines a 3 metre line in line with peg 39 and a top two plus one down the right hand edge and by fishing a very simple .3 Jon Walker diamond on 0.24 line fished on the deck feeding 6mm pellet using both 8mm and donkey choker hookbaits. Simon caught 26 carp to only 18-04 { with a board weight of 153lb } and still managed to lose a few and after yet another enjoyable 5 hours put another big 252-10 weight for another victory { very well done again Simon }.
In second place and a long way back on peg 32 was lake owner John Bennett who when i spoke to him he told me he was really struggling with only one carp but by fishing a deeper line down the end of the left hand bush fishing a combination of corn and 8mm pellets as hookbait feeding 6mm pellets quick heavy he managed to get a few big carp also up to 18lb in his weight of 97-15. Completing the frame was Mick Jones on peg 8 in the gap between the big and small lake and by fishing his usual 5-6 metre line fishing meat on the deck feeding pellet Mick managed to stay ahead of the chasing pack with his weight of 89-04.

Thanks for reading John , Simon and Eddie.
I think Simon is smuggling fish into the lake, as his trousers looked quite full to me (Or it could have been that his Big Golden Orbs are getting even bigger!)
Well done Si, eventurning up late you gave us a good beating. Please turn up at least 3 hours late next time!
If Simon had not come 6th in last Fridays night match then he would of been on his 7th victory in a row a dominant streak not seen for many years.
