Rolfslake silver fish match record broken.

With Rolfslake currently fishing very oddly you did not know whether it would fish great or very hard and with last Wednesdays match still very vivid in my memory i was hoping for a good afternoons fishing. With the anglers eager at the draw it was nice to see returning angler Chris Telling at the lake as we had not seen him for a while as he had been trying very hard to qualify for the Fishomania final again.

As the draw was called the same thing happened as it normally does and that is the good anglers draw the flyers and the average pegs are left for the rest. Today my main target as usual was to beat John and when he drew peg 40 i knew i was in trouble as the bottom of the small lake was black with fish as the wind had been blowing into the corners for the last two days, and he must of been cured of his bad back because he was at his peg faster than Usain Bolt with a big smile. For me it was my favourite peg 6 but with the wind blowing across my peg and the sun in my eyes it made for a very frustrating and difficult match.

Elsewhere around the lake Mick Lane’s never ending drawing of good pegs with peg 34, Chris Telling was on carp form peg 32 ,Paul Jay was on peg 4 and newcomer Neil Richards was on peg 8 in the gap between the big and small lake.

The story of todays match was one frustration as the carp were very difficult to catch in any numbers with i think a total of 20 carp caught by all the anglers with many switching to try and catch a few silvers for a bit of sport and when Kev Doulton weighed in he must of had about 150 roach for 26lb and still did not frame.

Todays winner was Vespe /Miracle Baits sponsored Chris Telling who started off fishing the 6 metre line fishing paste with very little success but a change of tactics to fishing the long 13 metre + line made a little Rolfslake history. Chris fished the long line on the deck mainly for carp which he had a few to double figures but it was the bream which took his attention as by fishing with a big dendrabena fished over depth he managed to keep them coming in fact i have never seen an angler that had 1 carp net and 2 silver fish nets. Chris in total had 30 bream for a fantastic total of 75-08 and a NEW Rolfslake silver fish record and when added to his carp totalled 128-00 { very well done Chris }.

 

 

 

In second place was Rolfslake’s Mick Lane who was fishing peg 34 in the small lake and he also struggled for the fish three hours but in the last two he caught small carp long down the edge towards the tree to his right. By fishing meat and pellet on the hook feeding pellet Mick kept the carp coming for another frame with his weight of 80-08 but still a low weight by his standards.

 

Completing the frame was newcomer Neil Richards on peg 8 who had carp and 25lb of silvers for his weight of 38-08.

There is not to say about our match today as with the sun in my eyes and the wind i could not see the bites but every now and then i would get a sharp pull on the pole tip from the carp whilst i was fishing paste but a change to corn got me out of jail with two carp for 19lb and 4 skimmers for 3lb for a total of 22-00.

That was in contrast to John who was on peg 40 and as soon as the match started the carp disappeared and John then struggled for the next 5 hours with a couple of lost carp and about 2lb of skimmers which he put back of in disgust.
