Winter League Round 2, Sun 21st Nov 2010.

Last matches Dream Team

The second round of the winter league was fished at the lake today. With Walker floats team sitting at the top of the table would they manage another clean sweep and hang on to the top spot or did the lake have other ideas for them ??

With everyone at the lake on time John got the draw under-way early to allow everyone some extra time to set up. The draw format today was whoever won A section drew first for their peg in B section and so on down to last place getting what was left in the bag.

Today there was a cold wind blowing from peg 40 towards the big lake making a nice ripple on the water. It was cloudy all day and we had a few spots of rain but nothing major.

Everyone drew their pegs and set off to set up. How the lake would fish was anyone’s guess πŸ˜€

Pat Pritchard signalled the all in with a hooter that sounded like a strangled donkey πŸ˜€

I was fishing on peg 2 which everyone kindly left in the bag for me today and hoping to have a bit more than 8oz. It was not long before I saw the first carp being caught by Liam over on peg 34, he was fishing the tip. I was next to catch, a small 4oz perch which I was chuffed with as it was half my last matches weight and meant I avoided the DNW.

Jon Walker over on 37 was struggling but Jon normally gets the carp going so I was expecting him to start catching but it never happened for him this week 😯 Poor Gary Haisman on peg 4 was much the same and had managed to hook a carp first drop on his long line but as he shipped back it came off. Geoff On peg 40 had managed to foul hook a perch whilst reeling in his feeder πŸ˜€

Phil Powell on peg 6 was fishing 16 meters on the bloodworm and joker and putting a nice net of silvers together before he had something stealing his fish….

Phil's first ever Pike which went 12lb 4oz. Well done.

The pike lead him on a merry dance around his and Malc’s pegs. Malc help out when the pike went round the back of his platform by pushing it back out in to the lake with his landing net πŸ˜€ This was not the only pike to put in an appearance today, Clive Pritchard on peg 28 also caught a 10lb 8oz pike which fell to double maggot on the bomb.

In the last 2 hours the big lake started to produce some fish, Roving reporter Marcus Burgess fishing from peg 9 was keeping me up to date with who was catching which was keeping him busy as he was not catching much unfortunately.

The lake fished hard overall but least different people caught some fish this week instead of watching other catching πŸ˜€

As for my match, I managed 5 carp this week fishing corn in to the corner on the pole and bomb rod which was a massive relief. I had to laugh when Malc came walking past me and said he was off to unhook his hook from the rope by the lilies on peg 34 after casting a little to far πŸ˜€

  • Thanks also to Mick Jones for the Kit Kat. I will eat it at work tomorrow πŸ˜€

  • Well done to Phil and Clive for catching their pike on the pole and the bomb, to Pats Lot for winning the day and to RTG FOR going joint first again { a familiar position for them} and it sounds like it was an interesting match for all.
    Roll on round three.
P.s Mick i hope you have saved a kitkat for me.

  • hmmmm nice and tight

  • It’s good to see you chaps are catching on a variety of methods.
Well done to both Piking Pirates, I bet they kept you both busy for a while!
Congrats to Simon for making amends for the the first round.
Looks like it is developing into a nice tight race this year.
Eddie, the Kit Kats were left in Johns safe hands, so might all be in his safe tummy by now! Shame you werent able to make the match on Saturday as I am sure you would have beats Johns 4oz, he kept moaning something about there being too many Carp in his swim that he couldn’t get through to he silvers.

  • Si
    Assassins 9+15 = 26 is a tad wrong
    Should be 24

  • Cheers Si, good right up as usual mate

Eddie I feel the need to point out it was Pat’s lot that won round 2 with a total of 17 points.

It was a very hard match for some of us, the wind was horrible as it come from the little lake towards the big lake and made fishing in it not very pleasant.

However looking at the long range forecast, it could be ice breakers at the ready for the next round

  • well done steve liam and ernie on good section wins also excellent result for pats lot good to see simon do well on peg 2 eddies fishing tuition must be paying of it wasnt gem in disguise was it rolfs team old are sneaking up isee good to see phil catching of apoor draw

I can’t believe they left me peg 2 in the bag. Eddie didn’t ring to give me any tips like he said he would, thats why I did well I think lol πŸ˜› πŸ˜€

  • the reports are excellent simon i look forward to seeing the results would luv to fish but cant commit due to brandons football matches but good to see different anglers doing well this time eddies gone quiet rumour is hes perfecting a new paste also was there a silver fish match saturday

  • John there was a silvers match on Saturday, Nick Merry won it off peg 13 with about 36lb ish, (17 skimmers). Peg 17 was second with 17 pound and I was 3rd off peg 32 (yes I was on it 2 days running) with nearly 12lb which was all roach and one skimmer.

  • cheers pat the carp have left peg 32 now by the look of it good job you no how to catch silvers well done nick excellent weight

  • Yes the carp have long gone now. I wouldn’t want to be on it for any more of the winter league matches. Even the silvers were hard to come by on the Sunday match
