Rolfslake silver fish open Saturday 6th November 2010

Breaking news Pete Arnold catches 130lb of carp and still does not win todays match.

Today Rolfslake welcomed the anglers to the first silver fish open of the year and for a change the anglers were going to be able to put all their fish into the keepnets as carp were not allowed in todays match ,except if you were Jon Walker who was employing a catch and release policy until a big perch blocked the hole at the bottom of his keepnet.

With today being a mild autum day with no wind  the anglers were very eager to get going especially Vepse’s Chris Telling who was hoping to put his recent poor winter league matches to the back of his mind and catch a good bag of silvers today.

With the match being fished in the big lake due to its fairness the anglers drew their pegs and went off in good spirits and the usual banter with most of it being directed at me not for a change. As the match started all the anglers opted to fish the pole as this appeared to be the fastest way to assemble  a good weight.

In first place today was in-form silver fish angler Pat Pritchard who was fishing form peg 32, and Pat today managed to put together today a great bag of roach perch and big skimmers but also suffered from hooking and landing carp { what am i saying suffering } which disturbed his rhythm but still at the end of five hours put a great winning weight of 27-07 and his fourth 20lb + in a row { well done Pat }.

Pat Pritchard

In second place was Vespe sponsored angler Chris Telling on peg 18 on the motorway bank and Chris opted to fish long towards peg 19 fishing maggots, and Chris put together also a great bag of roach, perch and skimmers but in the end fell a few fish short of victory with 26-12.

Completing the frame was Mick Chapell on peg 13 and by fishing long down the edge Mick managed to catch quality perch and skimmers which kept him ahead of both Jon Walker and Dave Whiteman with 19-08.

Spare a thought for Jon Walker who’s fishing was affected by floating leaves in his peg { peg 26 } but when the leaves cleared Jon was in full catching mode and i expected him to be weighing over 20lb, but when he lifted his net there was a perch of 1lb sticking through a hole in keepnet which probably allowed fish to escape and in the end Jon had only 16-00 to show for his efforts { unlucky Jon }.

And as for me !.

I was very happy to draw Peg 28 and started fishing a 3 metre non elastic whip and when the float buried and whip bent around double i was hanging on to a perch of a pound and a half which i safely landed, which prompted the start of abuse from John Bennett on peg 10 . Imagine 10 minutes later when i landed anothe perch of about a pound which only made matters worse with the banter.

I continued to catch fish but not with any rhythm and after 5 hours put 10-06 on the scales and i thought i might of done John and clawed a point back but when he pulled his net out i knew i had been mugged as John had 13-02 and i went down another point { well done John i really mean it NOT }.

Until our next report tight lines Eddie and Simon.

John Bennett now leads me 13-9

  • well done pat nice net of fish unlucky chris but well done also bad luck to john walker not to many small fish left in net by look of photo eddie i think the pressure of beating mr bennet is getting to you i was expecting a bigger weight of u after your london park upbringing or did you use a bamboo cane and net in those days

  • Well done Pat!!

  • Well done Pat…..and thanks a load for the lift!

  • Congrats to you Pat. Your recent practice has been put to good effect.
(Did you take the £1 from Dan?)
Some cracking Perch by the looks of the photo’s, John W looks to be holding a fine brace. (Do Perch count as Silvers? they look a bit green to me!)
Are we to assume no one told Pete A it was a silvers match, what peg was he on?
And Dave W knocks me off the Silvers peg king list, well that didn’t last long.
All in all it sounds like you had a good day.
I am clocking up some good Brownie points at the moment, bought the family a nice take away on Sunday with my Lottery winnings, and lots of Charlie dog walks over the weekend so I am hoping to make the match on the 20th.

  • Cheers guys

Yes Dan asked me if I would risk one of my shiny pounds with him.

Pete Arnold was on peg 14, the same peg Jon Walker won the teams of 3 off yesterday with 150lb.

Keep clocking up the brownie points, hopefully see you on the 20th

  • Well done Pat on another win and a big bag of silvers.
After being beaten by JB it looks like i will be back to the London parks getting some more practice on catching silvers.
Mick Lanes record is safe for another week so he can sleep easy even if Pat is getting closer by the week

  • Lol Eddie, you wouldn’t say that if you watched me yesterday.
