Rolfslake Open Wednesday 27th October 2010.

Today a small band of anglers turned up together with 5 pleasure anglers hoping that Rolfslake’s very indiffernt form was a thing of the past but today was good for some and challenging for the rest. The one thing that all the anglers experienced today was a battle with the monsters of Rolfslake, and at the weigh-in of the 23 carp landed only 2 were under 10lb so it was a challenge with which rig to choose .

Paul with a beautiful common of 20-02

In first place today was Paul Jay fishing peg 24 and Paul used a combination of the pellet waggler and the pole fished with banded pellet. Paul over five hours caught 10 carp capped by this beautiful common of 20-02 caught in the last 5 minutes, but also caught carp of 17-00 and 15-00 in his final weight of 112-08 {well done Paul }.

In second place was Rolfslake form angler Mick Jones who was fishing peg 28 on the car park bank. Mick used a combination of short pole and the bomb using meat hook bait feeding pellet and was able to pick off carp at regular intervals and also caught carp to double figures in his weight of 80-12.

Pat with a 20-08 net of silvers.

That perch is what beat me today well done John B.

With the forthcoming silver fish opens Rolfslake will open a few anglers eyes with the quality of silver fishing to be had.

With the chance of catching silvers in nets upto 50lb Rolfslake will not only show how good a carp fishery it is but how brilliant an alround fishery it is with bites to be had on all baits and methods. So if you fancy a great days fishing with plenty of bites get yourself down to the lake and book on one of the silver fish opens you will love it.

A days silver fishing

Today Dan Blackwell visited Rolfslake to see if he could catch a 20lb bag of silvers, with his dad Gary on hand to record the days events. Dan was today fishing peg 4 in the small lake and by fishing a combination of long and short pole using groundbait and worm Dan was able to catch quality Perch to 3-08 and roach to over 1lb . At the end of his session Dan put together a fantastic net of fish which when put on the scales went 28-00 {well done Dan } so for more details read Dans report on www.fishing101.co.uk

Dan Blackwell with a hard earned 28-00 bag of silvers.

Dan with a 3-08 Perch

As for me it was a nice days fishing until i saw John Bennett catch his first carp then i felt obliged to try and catch one myself and by doing so messed up my silver fish line. In the end i had the carp feeding on my short line swim and drove the roach away and took them a while to come back, and had i concentrated just on silvers i recon i could of had about 40lb in five hours. The roach were happy to feed on sensas roach groundbait and maggot hook bait and i was catching a fish a cast using a fairly heavy rig so all was well until i hooked a carp on my roach rig and wrecked both the swim and the rig.

The most annoying thing was losing to John Bennett by 3lb and going 12-9 down and time is running out to catch him up.

  • Cracking report and pictures Eddie. Bet you was glad to be back

  • It was a lovely afternoon at the lake.
Most entertaining to listen to Eddie when he hooked a Carp but the silence after he lost ’em was deafening!
    Paul had some cracking carp.
I had one on the tip, foul hooked in the Dorsal fin some how, which took off like a bat out of hell, I thought for a while I might have had my first Rolfs 20lber., they take some getting in when hooked that way. I stopped one run just short of Pat 4 swims away. Beasts they are!
It was good to see some nice Perch come out to.
Not sure when I will be able to get back to the lake, the earlier starts make it tricky due to the horrendous traffic in the mornings on the M25, coming across country would probrably mean me getting lost and ending up in Birmingham somewhere.
If I can get there I will, if not I have had a fabulous summer season and wish everyone well for the coming winter months.
Looking forward to reading the reports on the silver matches.
Tight lines everyone and may your ‘laccy be pulled long and often.

  • Thanks Dan and Gary for being able to use your photo’s for the website, i hope you enjoyed your day NOT catching carp.

  • To Mick
Wednesdays wont be the same without you. You get my vote for form angler of the year even if you are tied on 7 open wins each with John Bennett, so if i dont see you again this year keep well and dont worry the Pirate will return next year bigger and better.
As i said to you yesterday Simon and i will be binnig the peg kings for next year as i was only on it for three weeks so for me it was not very good {only kidding Mick i think peg kings has been a great success and a great talking point down the lake }.

  • Well done Paul for your lovely common carp of 20-02 and to think you were going to put it back without a photo would of been criminal.
If i catch a 20 lb er i will unload the camera memory card on it.

  • lovely fish paul well done mate cracking photos eddie well done young dan cracking perch nice to see the best mick jones is still bagging

  • Thanks John i love taking photo’s down the lake, and in the winter months i will start up my glamour photography studio so if you know of any suitable subjects let me know.
I will talk to Simon about your idea of a peg king board for the silver matches starting last week so i can get my name on it.

  • posted a reply on silver fish site for u eddie also if u need an assistant for glamour studio im the man my local dentist has started using your paste for fillings also

  • John you have got the job.
You will have to recruit some Midlands beauties as your first assignment.
X4 is also used as foundation cream on super models as it has a soft creamy consistency so maybe i will rebrand it for next year.
Anyway John enjoy your last 8 weeks as King of the lake as on Jan the 1st the slate is cleaned ready for 2011.

  • thanks eddie never seen a midlands beauty the way your talking you still might become lake king with 400lb of silvers

  • Only in my dreams.

  • Thanks Ed, 28lb 13oz! 🙂 I am going to try my very best to fish the match next week. On Wednesday I beat m,y silvers PB with 28lb 13oz and Thursday I beat it again with 100lb of skimmers and bream. Great 2 days!

  • Anyone fishing at rolfs monday or is nothing happening that day?

  • Kind words Eddie, thanks for that.
Every time I got on the Peg King board some show off knocked me off the next week, but I have snuck on to Peg 27 so I am in with a chance of seeing the year out.
Slogging away at work today, Tetley’s have come in for a giveaway Teabag promotion.
Nice lady gave me x3 boxes of chunky Kit Kats for being so helpful.(That’s not like me!)
I might try and save a few for when I next come to the lake as we might need a break from whipping out all the Sivers. (Tomorrows Duty Manager is off sick today so I might have to work which means I will be able to make next Wednesday, BONUS!

  • Dan
