Wednesday Open Match 30th April 2025

Today saw the return of John Hagues down the lake and usually that only means two things, the first you will be entertained watching him land big carp and the second some pools money will be going back up the M40.

It was a beautiful day , sunny and warm with the temperatures reaching 24 degrees and this triggered the fish to have a feed close to the margins. The silver anglers were out again trying to dethrown the king of silvers Brian Hutchings, who has been on fire catching the big skimmers in his big silvers weights.

Today was a rare day for me to watch and take some photos whilst getting a tan and I was not disappointed as I was sat across from peg 13 watching John Hague empty the peg using a combination of micros and maggots to catch big double figure fish in his winning weight of 190-03 and the top weight down the lake so far.

In second place was Mick Jones on peg 8 who caught most of his fish at close range in the margins for his weight of 138-08 using pellet and corn.

Completing the hatrick of ton weights was John Draper who was fishing the car park bank peg 24 and again John caught big fish to double figures in his weight of 102-04.

The most coveted battle down the lake at the moment is the silver anglers battle for the silvers crown ,which has swapped hands nearly every week. Brian Hutchings has worn the crown most weeks but today saw a new member in the battle, lake owner John Bennett who was on the dessert peg 14, in full sun.

At the end of 5 hours it was very close with Dick Cullen on peg 5 just keeping ahead of John Bennett with his weight of 16-09 to Johns 15-05 and he regained his crown after the match from Brian.

Just as a reminder to the anglers down the lake we are now weighing all fish over 10lb due to the bigger fish coming out and the warmer temperatures. The net limits are strict at 75lb so please remember to bring the required amount of nets.
