Rolfslake Sunday Open 4th May 2025

The real king of silvers is back

Today down the lake it fished really hard with lots of Carp  just cruising around.

Top place saw Ernie Malyon win from peg 8 with a combined Carp and silvers weight of 45-02.

Paul had the top carp weight today having 39-07 from peg 34.

Regaining his silvers crown was the Rolfslake’s most consistent silver fish angler  Brian Hutchings who put together a beautiful net of skimmers and roach for his weight of 27-15 ( very well done Brian).

The silvers fishing is really good at the moment with the skimmers/ bream coming out between 1lb to 4lb unless you catch one eye Willie which is 5lb plus. There are a lot of big Roach to also catch which go to 1lb plus if you can avoid the smaller Roach, Tench and Carp.

Saturday Open Match 3rd May 2025

John Bennetts birthday open.

Today we got a chance to wish John a happy birthday for the previous day but there were no fishing favours for him in today’s match.

It was a beautiful day down the lake, sunny amd warm and this triggered the silvers to have a feed.

Todays’s overall winner was lake regular Nigel who was fishing motorway bank peg 4, he fished bomb and maggot in the bowl to catch carp and bream for his winning weight of 77-02.

Winning the top carp weight was Phil Cairns who was on peg 28 and Phil caught carp to double figures in his weight of 59-12.

The battle for the King of Silvers took another turn as Martin Page took on Brian, Dick and JB today on unfancied peg 14.

Martin’s peg was in full sun but he put together a beautiful bag of bream in his winning weight of 26-13,  just keeping ahead of Brian Hutchings who caught 24-00 from peg 34 ( well done Martin).

Specimen angler of the day Steve Page caught a variety of species today which included Bream, Roach, the new Ghost mirror carp and also Tommy the Tench.

To round off the day we were treated to a lovely buffet prepared by Pauline and a John was treated to a magic trick by Nigel lol.

Wednesday Open Match 30th April 2025

Today saw the return of John Hagues down the lake and usually that only means two things, the first you will be entertained watching him land big carp and the second some pools money will be going back up the M40.

It was a beautiful day , sunny and warm with the temperatures reaching 24 degrees and this triggered the fish to have a feed close to the margins. The silver anglers were out again trying to dethrown the king of silvers Brian Hutchings, who has been on fire catching the big skimmers in his big silvers weights.

Today was a rare day for me to watch and take some photos whilst getting a tan and I was not disappointed as I was sat across from peg 13 watching John Hague empty the peg using a combination of micros and maggots to catch big double figure fish in his winning weight of 190-03 and the top weight down the lake so far.

In second place was Mick Jones on peg 8 who caught most of his fish at close range in the margins for his weight of 138-08 using pellet and corn.

Completing the hatrick of ton weights was John Draper who was fishing the car park bank peg 24 and again John caught big fish to double figures in his weight of 102-04.

The most coveted battle down the lake at the moment is the silver anglers battle for the silvers crown ,which has swapped hands nearly every week. Brian Hutchings has worn the crown most weeks but today saw a new member in the battle, lake owner John Bennett who was on the dessert peg 14, in full sun.

At the end of 5 hours it was very close with Dick Cullen on peg 5 just keeping ahead of John Bennett with his weight of 16-09 to Johns 15-05 and he regained his crown after the match from Brian.

Just as a reminder to the anglers down the lake we are now weighing all fish over 10lb due to the bigger fish coming out and the warmer temperatures. The net limits are strict at 75lb so please remember to bring the required amount of nets.
