Jinx Evening Match. 30th July 2010

Today the Jinx Squad return to the lake to fish their annual Evening match at the lake. They are also fishing on the Saturday too.

Before the match Malc had arranged a BBQ so everyone could have a natter before the match. The draw had been a rolling draw meaning you could draw from anytime after 4pm until the last person turned up. Most people were already at the lake and started drawing. People went and set up on their pegs with 3.5 hours before the match was due to start and then headed back for the BBQ.

John and Pauline

Gem and cooking. uh oh....

Thats more like Gem's cooking ๐Ÿ˜€

Most people were camping at the lake ready for Saturdays match, and some were even fishing the open match on the Sunday too.

John do you know some Gypo's have moved in ??

Rolfslake flasher, Paul Roberts

Cross your arms if your going to do a Ton tonight

After the BBQ everyone made the way to their pegs. Some people were more excited than others with their drawing hand. See if you can guess whichย  ….. ?

Vince Gould was on 14.

Dave Collier was on 32

Malc Doyle on peg 8 with He-Man in the background

Mitch Auger behind peg 7

Tony Roberts seem quite chuffed to be on 9

Clive Pritchard on peg 31

Jon Hatch looks quite happy

Once the match started people seemed to all catch a fish pretty quickly but then people were struggling. After the lights went on the lake looked lovely but the fishing proved to be hard.

After the match word was A section had fished best with Malc on peg 8 had catching well along with Alex on peg 6. Nick Williams had also had a few. While in B section Al Loader was to the only person to really have put a weight together. In C section fresh was his first Ton weight Nick (Monkey) had been trying for another and came very close, Paul Roberts who had a terrible lasy match had managed to catch a few this time.

After quite a hard Match here are the results…

After the match and the weigh in was complete. People were up drinking and chatting till 5am.

A certain young Lady (Gem) had gone to bed having only fished for 2 hours of the match and then went to sleep behind her peg with the slugs and snails. So 7 out of 24 ain’t bad for 2 hours work is it ๐Ÿ˜€

If you want to fish a night match at the lake the next one is on the 20th August. The draw time is 6.30pm. Its quite an experience ๐Ÿ™‚

Make sure to ring John Bennett to book in as spaces are limited. Number is in ‘Contact‘ above.

Thanks, Si and Eddie.

Jinx Series, Match 4. 24th July 2010

Today the Jinxsters were back at the lake ready to fish their 4th match of the series. The draw was at 11.30 ish and fishing was from 1-30pm – 6-30pm. With delays both ways on the M40 a few people were late getting to the lake.

Jinxsters gathering for the Draw

Today was a free draw to see which sections everyone would be in for the remaining 2 match. So if you drew in A section this time you would be in B section for the next match and then C section for the final match. With the draw complete there was a worrying thought for everyone today…… Gem was on form peg 9 so there was a real chance of being MINXED today ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Fred Parker, fresh from a fine Wednesday Open Match Win and who had recently joined the 200lb club had soon set up having sussed the lake and had time to read the paper while everyone else wondered what to do.

200lb club and a new hat. Cool

Gem on peg 9. Scary stuff for the blokes

Steve Wilson on 17 and Mugger Morton on 18

Mitch on peg 32. Having a lovey dovey moment on the phone

Al Loader on peg 10 and Jon Hatch on 11

With the match underway most people were catching a few but were being plagued with fouler hooker’s, A scream from peg 9 went out across the lake signalling Gem had successfully landed her first carp. If you have never heard this then its a scary sound especially if you have not got anything in the net yourself ๐Ÿ˜€

Simon fishing on peg 14 was high on Gem’s targets for the day but he had already got 2 fish in the net but was finding it hard to keep the fish coming and was also suffering from loosing a lot of foul hooked fish.

Nick W-P (Monkey) over on peg 26 was having a jolly day and was catching regularly and was well on target for his first ever ton weight. Malc round on peg 5 was catching well and so was Gem on peg 9. Also sneaking a few in was Fred on peg 15 fishing paste out at 6 meters and down the margin to his left.

Stick was flying from the hut today, John and Eddie were watching the match and cheering Gem on hoping she would get her first match win at the lake. Eddie had set rumours flying about that if Gem won a match at Rolfslake Simon would get down on one knee and propose to her. So John and Eddie were measuring each other up for suits and ringing the bell in the style of church bells trying to put Simon off his fishing and doing a very good job of it too ๐Ÿ˜€

Luckily for Simon Fred Parker was doing a fine job of catching so Simon thought he would not have to get any grass stains on his knee’s

Simon trying to avoid a MINXING on peg 14

Gem's biggest of the day 16lb 4oz

Mitch on peg 32

With the match over banter started… Had Gem won the match… Had Fred managed to save Simon from getting his knee dirty ๐Ÿ˜€ Had Monkey done his Ton ???

Before the weigh in started Paul Roberts had dropped his keepnet adaptor in the lake and needed it for a match on Sunday so there was only one thing for it……

Now where is it.......

That's not it ......

Ahhh here it is....

In all the excitment his flip flop escapes ๐Ÿ˜€

Now where's my towel

On to the weigh in and it seems Simon was safe after all as Malc fishing peg 5 saved his bacon with a fine weight of 176lb and to rub salt in to the wound he also took Gem’s peg king off her too ๐Ÿ™ Gem had managed a fine 126lb from peg 9 but it was only good enough for 4th place today and Fred Parker on peg 15 had 173lb and Peter Morton on peg 18 had 133lb and was only saved from been Minxed by 3 skimmers ๐Ÿ˜€

The next but of excitement was when the scales rolled up on peg 26. Would he or wouldn’t he ….

Has Nick done his first ever Ton ??

Yes, easily. 126lb ๐Ÿ˜€ Well done Nick.

All round the weigh in people were telling him he had done it but he wouldn’t believe them and said….

“If I have done a ton I will jump in the lake”

True to his word ๐Ÿ˜€

One last issue need to be sorted before everyone left the lake. Who would be wearing the dreaded MINX hat for the next match. Gem certainly had enough to choose from….

Now who shall it be ...

Plenty to choose from ...

And the winner is .....

Clive Pritchard ๐Ÿ˜€

The next time the Jinxsters are at the lake is next Friday(30th July) when Malc holds his annual night match at the lake to get everyone warmed up for match 5 on the Saturday after. The night match is not part of the Jinx series so there are just 2 match remaining to go.

Thanks for reading, Si and Eddie

Jinx Series, Match 3. 19th June 2010

The Jinx squad role up to the lake again today for their third match. All the usual suspects assemble with the usual anticipation of catching a big weight from the lake but what has the lake in store for them today … ?

The weather today was a mixture of cloud with sunny spells, the cloud were very dark and it looked like it was going to rain also. The wind had also picked up creating a large ripple on the lake. The carpark filled up early today with most people getting to the lake around 10.30. Even Malc was there early ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Ant Haywood and Marcuss Burgess

Before the draw could take place there was a small matter of the Minx hat…. Paul Dolby who should have been wearing the hat for this match had called in sick ๐Ÿ™„ So Gem decided the best way for the hat to still get an airing was to put all the peoples names she had MINXED into a hat and draw a random name……

Gem announcing the hat victim lineup

Gem Drawing the name

The chosen one is..........

Steve Wilson.

Despite a lot of protesting Steve still wore the hat…. For some of the match, after he got it back out the lake after the wind blew it in ๐Ÿ˜€

Suits you sir

With the draw and Hat handing out the way everyone trundled off to their pegs. Today would be the last time people would be fishing in their sections as the next match will see everyone drawing for sections again for the remaining 3 matches. This means they will draw from the hat with all the pegs in there, if you draw A section you will then be in B section for match 5 and C for the final match of the series. It seems to be a good idea so far.

With the draw running a little late people did not have as long to set up to day as fishing was from 1pm to 6pm. Early speculation was Gem would draw peg 8 and proceed to Minx everyone but flyer pegs 8 and 9 remained in the bag unpicked ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Gem did however draw a unusual peg… Peg 5 which is not normally fished. With no one else previously fishing the peg all she had to do was catch a fish and she would be Peg Queen ๐Ÿ˜€

Gem Doyle on peg 5

With the match underway both Clive on peg 11 and Peter on peg 10 were straight in to fish. Clive managed to net his with no problem but the same could not be said for Peter. His fish was fouled hooked and being quite stubborn. Peter stood up and decided to give it a bit of ooomph, his topkit could not take the pressure and proceeded to snap into 7 pieces ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€ He still managed to get the fish in though, well done Peter.

Peter Morton on peg 10

Wonder if this can be repaired ๐Ÿ˜€

After about an hour the shout went out from Gem signalling she had caught a fish. Gem was fishing the feeder on peg 5 with a banded pellet.

Peg 5 was very windy.

Matt Edwards on peg 7 was having a few too, this made up for the lack of fish for him on the last match.

Matt on peg 7 catching a few

At this point Malc And Gem had been away visiting Family in hospital for a couple of hours but Malc still managed to come back feed, put his rig out and catch a fish right away…must have been solid ๐Ÿ˜›

Malc on peg 38 using a number 6 elastic by the looks of it ๐Ÿ˜€

A few fish were coming from the little lake but another few causalities also happened. Kev on peg 4 was shipping back after hooking a fish to find his topkit missing when he shipped back and Tony on peg 2 also broke a topkit.

Kev on peg 4 before his topkit did a submarine impression

Dave Moore struggling on peg 36

Dai on form from peg 34

Talking of breaking things, Steve Wilson on peg 32 was breaking rig and topkits like there was no tomorrow but was still managing to get a few in.

The fishing around the lake was very patching. Some people were catching and other people were not catching, me being one of them. Clive on peg 11 had been picking off fish from his 6 meter line and his right hand margin and was slowly building up a good weight for the day.

Clive Pritchard with another carp.

In the net, Well done.

Clives Fish. 13lb 8oz although it did look bigger.

With the end of the matching nearing people that had been catching well were Clive on Peg 11, Jon on peg 32, Dai on 34, Matt on peg 7 and Marcus Burgess on peg 28. It was going to be a close match.

With the weigh in complete The winner of the day was to be Clive Pritchard who had fished a tidy match finding fish from his various swims. Well done Clive, well fished mate.

Well done to everyone who caught carp on a very hard day at the lake. One more thing had to be done before everyone left the lake……. THE HAT ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Now I must point out that anyone Minxed today should hang their heads in shame ๐Ÿ˜€ as Gem only really fished for 3 hours. With 7 names to choose from who would the hat go to…..

Despite Gem Minxing her boyfriend Simon Mound good and proper there could be only one contender for the hat…. Ade Williams, who had avoided being Minxed for nearly 3 years. Welcome to the club mate. I will make you a nice cuppa tea ๐Ÿ˜€

Ade Will don the hat for match 4 unless he falls ill ๐Ÿ˜€

A few other notables for this match were that Marcus Burgess weighed in 4 fish for a massive 67lb 4oz

  • 18lb
  • 16lb
  • 18lb 4oz
  • 15lb

Well done Marcus.

Clive stole John Bennetts lake king title from peg 11.

Gem also took a peg King title to become the peg queen of peg 5.

Ade despite been Minxed and having to wear the hat still picked up money for the guess the weight competition. He also took the peg king title for peg 20 ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ๐Ÿ˜€

Despite been stone cold last and been Minxed to the extreme Simon Mound fishing on peg 13 managed to catch the elusive golden orfe. It fell to double caster from his left hand margin swim. This was the same Fish Eddie caught a few weeks back. Thanks to Peter for taking the picture.

Simon Mounds only consolation for been last on the day

The next match is a fair way away. It takes place on the 24th July. Plenty of time to prepare rigs and to ponder on how the lake will fish next time.

Jinx Series, Match 2. 5th June 2010

The Jinx Squad made their return to the lake today. The weather today was very very warm and muggy indeed. The day started off sunny but the clouds moved but it remained hot round the lake.

The car park soon filled up with the Jinx members and some guests as some members were unable to fish today. The draw was supposed to be at 11.30 but as usual Malc was running late which gave Crystal plenty of time to go round and collect everyone’s guesses for the guess the weight competition. Looking back at the results I think everyone guesses were a tad high ๐Ÿ˜€

Fishing today was from 1pm – 6pm. The draw format was A section to draw first, in the order of the placings on the previous match so first in the section drew first and so on. The draw ran smoothly except when C section made their draw. Someone (BUDGIE) had put his peg back on the table with the C section pegs. People had drawn their peg but when Tony pulled out peg 40 there had to be a redraw much to the dismay of Gemma who had pulled peg 26 out the bag. Everyone drew again and Gemma still managed to draw peg 26 anyway ๐Ÿ˜ฏ With the draw out the way everyone trundled off to set up.

I was trying to get pictures of everyone around the lake but Malc called the all in and I had to get back to my peg sorry ๐Ÿ˜€ With the match fully underway it was clear that many were struggling with getting a bite in the big lake. Ade on peg 30 was catching a few, Gemma on 26 was fishless after 2 hours and not a lot else was happening in the big lake. The little lake was throwing a few fish up, Steve on 34 was leading the way in the little lake with both Clive on 8 and Dave on 7 catching fish from the far bank on the feeder. Also fishing the feeder was Peter on peg 36, a method used in the last few matches and proved to be very successful. Poor Jon on peg 38 was not so lucky and was having a hard time getting the carp to eat any of his pellets.

Paul and Simon on pegs 2 and 4 were having a mini match of their own, Simon was fishing the corner by peg 3 in the scum and was getting plagued with foul hooked fish and fish snagging him in the bushes whilst Paul was just having problems landing them ๐Ÿ˜€

Fish on for Paul, Will he land it ???

Most people had struggled today showing everyone that big weights do not always come from the lake and it is not an easy place to fish. The weigh in soon finished as there were 2 weigh in teams today working on opposite banks across the lake. Today’s match saw the first blanks of the series and probably not the last. Gemma on peg 26 had only managed 1-12 today so most people were safe from a MINXING ! despite that she still managed to take 3 scalps today. Terry Goff, Paul Dolby and Matt Edwards. Who would get the hat this time, only Gem knew ๐Ÿ˜€

With the results sorted Malc gathered everyone for the presentation. Pete Archer had kindly donated some prizes from Vespe today but instead of giving them to the main winners Malc decided to work from the bottom up so the lower weights all went away with something.

Jinx Series Match 1. 15th May 2010

Today Rolfslake welcomed Malc Doyle’s Jinx League, in which Malc invites anglers to fish a six match competition with a pairs competition thrown in.

The Jinx league draws anglers from around the country who meet at Rolfslake and continue with their banter from previous matches ,but the only thing they want to avoid is a minxing from Gemma Doyle {the only lady to fish this competition}. As agreed the angler that gets beat has to wear a girly pink fluffy cowboy hat and for this match the honour went to Steve Akal {Steak} much to the amusement of all the anglers and i don’t think he expected the amount of cameras to be brought out for this most not wanted occasion.

Today the match was separated into three sections small lake, front bowl by the hut and back bowl at the end of the big lake so each of the anglers could see their rivals and keep tabs on who was catching. Another feature of the match was the anglers viewing the peg kings board by the tree and with most pegs in play today the chance to see your name on the leader board was an attractive proposition.ย  As the match started on a sunny day i expected the anglers to empty the lake as it was a near perfect day sun ,no wind and fish cruising all around which is normally a good sign for catching.

Today John decided to take Pauline out for the day so he left me in charge but with these anglers in particular he had not need worry as they are a brilliant bunch of guys and girls and always abide by the rules and the only person i had to tell off today was Rolfslake regular Paul Jay {Paul was invited for this match only} who was threatening to catch some fish but i had need not worry as he managed to lose most of them.

From where i was sitting i could see most of the anglers in the big lake and within 10 minutes of the match both my web partner and his girl friend Gemma were both into fish and both lost them after a couple of minutes. Around the lake anglers were picking off the odd fish but it was not frantic by any means, except for Simon on peg 26 who was fishing shallow and using boilie as hook bait and was catching by swinging and slapping his rig on the water to entice the fish.

The dreaded thing happened after 50 minutes when Gemma on peg 29 hooked a carp on banded pellet and with most of the anglers praying for her to lose it played it out and slipped the net under a 12-04 carp and also made her peg Queen for peg 29 { well done Gem}.

Dave Moore on peg 13 was catching a few fish on paste , with Malc giving everyone an hours head start after stepping on his number four section and coming to the shed to repair it with only a hacksaw and a spanner for tools which weren’t much use.

In the small lake Geoff Palmer was putting a very good bag of fish together on barren peg 37 and after 3 hours was walking around the lake taking photo’s after already catching 60lb and making the peg king board {well done Geoff}. Elsewhere in the lake both Ant and Slim Shady on pegs 7 and 2 where catching a few on long poles fished on the deck so at least 3 good weights were coming from this area.

As the anglers approached the last hour Simon had abandoned his edge swim as the long shallow line was getting him plenty of fish although he had to keep adjusting the depth to keep the fish coming and there were plenty of doubles ready to grab his boilie hookbait and even John Hatch from peg 27 was catching on the pellet waggler trying to steal some of Simon’s Fish. In the last hour i convinced / persuaded Gemma to try paste so i got some of my X4 from the car to see if it would help her and after a few bites caught two more carp and missed several bites so at least it got he closer to a few more anglers and maybe a few more minxings.

Dai Thomas with a lovely 15lb common.

Just to test my X4ย theory i gave Steve Akal some and as he had caught nothing it was never going to hurt, and in the last two hours managed two carp and lost a couple but at least save a blank.

As Malc called time it was apparent that Rolfslake had fished hard today but the anglers still had a fun time even with all the abuse being hurled around the lake. As i helped with the weigh-in it was easy to see Simon had won the day with a great weight of 156-00 {well done Si} but the the minxing was definitely on for quite a few of them, and Gemma’s biggest scalp was hopefully going to be Pete {mugger} Morton as the rest thought he would look great in pink brilliant.

Today's winner Simon Mound.

As the anglers packed away their gearย away the only bit of businessย that had to be done was the handing over of the dreaded hat and with that choice going to Gemma it was decided much to everyone’s delight that the next suspect was going to to be Pete Morton Sorry Pete.

Now for the role call of Minxed anglers.

Nick W-P, Paul Dolby, Terry, Mick Lenton, Al Loader, Steve Steak, Dave Webster, Steve Wilson, Pete Morton, Paul Roberts, Dave Collier, Marcus Burgess.

Well done Gemma.
