Saturday Open. 4th Sept 2010

Today 11 anglers turned up for the open match, a few people had dropped out last minute so this was more of a knock up match. At the draw John Bennett drew first for a change and held the peg in his hand until everyone else had drawn. Me and Marcus had drawn pegs 6 and 7 but also kept them in our hands. As everyone gave there peg numbers to Paul, John thought he was to be on either pegs 6 or 7 but was quite upset to find he actually had endpeg 26 in his hand 😀

Fishing today was from 1-45pm to 6-45pm. On the whistle Dave Whiteman on peg 8 was right in to a fish, his bait had not even his the bottom and the float buried. Chris Lovelock fishing from peg 32 had a bit of a nightmare breaking his topkit. He hooked a fish behind the bush which broke his pole, unknown to him his topkit had wedged under the platform on peg 33. He went round and picked it up and the fish was still on, as he lifted it up it broke again and he lost the fish 🙁

Endpegs 4 and 26 were producing a steady run of fish for Jeff on peg 4 and John on peg 26 but John on peg 16 who was fishing the grass to his right was flying along making regular visits to the weigh station. Marcus on peg 6 had been putting a few fish in the net also fishing over by peg 5 platform and Paul Jay on 30 was having a few fishing at 8 meters.

Poor Justin fishing on peg 9 was having a right nightmare with fish regularly taking him in the bush, having just lost a rig in the bush he tied a new rig and dropped it in only to have that one go in the bush too. Mark on peg 18 was fishing to the newly trimmed bush, Paul Jay and John had been round doing a bit of bush maintenance before the match.

I had a nice time fishing on peg 7 for the first time ever. Fishing was hard with lots of liners and foul hooked fish on the feeder and only a skimmer and one carp coming from the 6 meter line. I did manage to snare a 17lb 12oz carp from the margin to my right. Both me and Dave we getting lots of liners fishing across to the opposite bank.

Paul Blew the whistle and news came round the lake that John Hague had 202lb on the board but was it good enough to win today.

MOG’s Marauders Match. Sun 22nd Aug 2010

Geoff Palmer.... MOG

A few of the Jinxsters had camped over after the BBQ so they could have a drink and travel back in the day-time. They woke up to find the car park buzzing with anglers fishing a club match at the lake. The club had turned up with half the number expected so instead of 20 anglers there were 10, they decided to fish in the big lake which left the little lake free 😐

A plan was hatched by Geoff to run a small knock-up match on the little lake with John’s permission. A few of the anglers had to get permission of their other halves 😀 With permission granted 8 angler gathered to discuss plans for the day.

We all decided not to draw pegs but just simply choose a peg that we fancied fishing. We all chose our pegs and then decided to fish from 1pm – 6pm. We paid our peg fee’s and all put £2 in the pot to give two prizes for the day, £11 for most weigh and £5 for the biggest fish.

Everyone was set up and ready but with 15 minutes to go Geoff was summoned to go and have his dinner or miss out 😀

  • Me {Simon Mound} on peg 38
  • Malc, Julie, Crystal Doyle on peg 39
  • Gem Doyle on peg 1
  • Geoff Palmer on peg 3
  • Nick Williams on peg 4
  • Marcus Burgess and Liam Doyle on peg 6
  • Dai Thomas on peg 7
  • Mat Edwards on peg 8

We gave him an extra 15 minutes to come back and then I called the all in. Budgie fishing from peg 6 had decided that he fancied doing some coaching for the day. Liam Doyle was his pupil, Liam had already had a go on my gear on peg 32 last night and caught a nice carp and was eager to continue where he left off last night.

Liam Doyle with a carp from peg 32

Everyone started off fairly well catching fish apart from poor Gem fishing from peg 1. Mat on peg 8 had landed his first carp in 3 days having failed to catch one in the previous two matches. I was having a chat with John Bennett and watching the other fishing and decided to go and have a go, I fed 2 handfuls of pellets on the left hand bush on peg 38 and dropped the rig in. I had a fish on right away too followed by another. I also dropped the feeder under the bush as I fancied a go on the rod and had a few more from both the left and right bushes.

By this time Liam was shouting and had his first fish on and in the net. He was very excited to say the least 😀 Malc on peg 39 had had a few fish but he too was in coaching mode, his wife Julie was on his box and playing a fish 😯 Anyone who knows Julie will know that she does NOT do fishing and hates it…. well used too. After having a few goes over the weekend it seems she was hooked now. Julies run on his box was cut short by yet another Doyle wanting to have a go. Crystal was soon on his box and playing a fish much to the disgust of Gem who was still fishless.

Dai and Mat on pegs 7 and 8 were catching plenty of fish and Geoff was hooking lots of fish on peg 3 but was loosing them as they were foul hooked. Nick on peg 4 was playing the odd fish but seemed to be struggling. Malc had managed to get on his box and catch a few more and also went on Gems peg to catch one off her peg to prove there was some fish in there 😀 Gem did manage one of her own using the feeder rod.

In the last hour of the mini match Liam had been bagging up big time. He let out a very loud “YES” when he landed a fish that he had been playing for 15 minutes, a fish of 18lb 8oz 😯 and a new PB for him. This fish was closely followed by a 17lb  2oz fish 😯 😯 Not bad for a 7 year old.

I shouted the all out at 6-15 and Liam was jumping up and down with excitement having caught a lot of fish. Gem came round and had a go on my peg as the bush was alive with fish and was soon catching a few much needed fish 😀

We all packed up and got the weigh in done.

The star of the day was Liam who has weighed a massive 90lb 2 oz on his first 5 hour match and had also shattered most people’s PB carp. Well done Liam, I think even Marcus learnt a thing or two 😀

Everyone had a great day and would like to thank John for letting us fish.

A few pictures now …

Friday Night Match. 20th August 2010

Another Night match at the lake saw a very good turnout. 26 anglers turned up hoping to have a few fish.

At the start of the match most people seemed to be in to fish right away. I had 2 carp in the first 5 minutes as did most of the other anglers but then the whole lake switched off. Only a few anglers managed to catch for the rest of the match.

Neil Riddy fishing from peg 6 was catching some big lumps including a 18-10 mirror and a 17-4 common, these helped him to win his second consecutive match at the lake. He also broke his PB carp too. Well done to Neil. He did not need help from his mom in this match though 😀 😛

John Hauge fishing from peg 34 also managed to catch a few.

On the Saturday morning the top layer of water in the lake was covered with fish gulping for air and John thinks the reason this match so poorly was due to low oxygen levels in the lake.

A bit of bad news as far as the results go because they got blown away or lost so I only have a few results. If anyone else knows any of the missing information then please email, comment or use the contact and send me them please. Neil Riddy kindly supplied the below information, thank you. 🙂
