Saturday Open. 4th Sept 2010

Today 11 anglers turned up for the open match, a few people had dropped out last minute so this was more of a knock up match. At the draw John Bennett drew first for a change and held the peg in his hand until everyone else had drawn. Me and Marcus had drawn pegs 6 and 7 but also kept them in our hands. As everyone gave there peg numbers to Paul, John thought he was to be on either pegs 6 or 7 but was quite upset to find he actually had endpeg 26 in his hand ๐Ÿ˜€

Fishing today was from 1-45pm to 6-45pm. On the whistle Dave Whiteman on peg 8 was right in to a fish, his bait had not even his the bottom and the float buried. Chris Lovelock fishing from peg 32 had a bit of a nightmare breaking his topkit. He hooked a fish behind the bush which broke his pole, unknown to him his topkit had wedged under the platform on peg 33. He went round and picked it up and the fish was still on, as he lifted it up it broke again and he lost the fish ๐Ÿ™

Endpegs 4 and 26 were producing a steady run of fish for Jeff on peg 4 and John on peg 26 but John on peg 16 who was fishing the grass to his right was flying along making regular visits to the weigh station. Marcus on peg 6 had been putting a few fish in the net also fishing over by peg 5 platform and Paul Jay on 30 was having a few fishing at 8 meters.

Poor Justin fishing on peg 9 was having a right nightmare with fish regularly taking him in the bush, having just lost a rig in the bush he tied a new rig and dropped it in only to have that one go in the bush too. Mark on peg 18 was fishing to the newly trimmed bush, Paul Jay and John had been round doing a bit of bush maintenance before the match.

I had a nice time fishing on peg 7 for the first time ever. Fishing was hard with lots of liners and foul hooked fish on the feeder and only a skimmer and one carp coming from the 6 meter line. I did manage to snare a 17lb 12oz carp from the margin to my right. Both me and Dave we getting lots of liners fishing across to the opposite bank.

Paul Blew the whistle and news came round the lake that John Hague had 202lb on the board but was it good enough to win today.

Bank holiday Monday 30th August 2010.

The battle between The Minx and Simon Mound.

On arriving at the lake today i was greeted by a near full lake of anglers already into their second hours fishing in todays Bank holiday Mondays open. I was not fishing today having just arrived back from holiday in Spain the evening before so i was pretty tired but not that tired to stop giving the regulars their normal helping of banter. As a prank directed at me their were a few anglers sporting the new in head gear created by me of the bandana cap which was being modelled by a few anglers today { thanks John , Paul and Niel }.

Crew members Paul and Neil.

Around the lake the usual suspect were catching fish with Chris Lovelock on peg 16 catching regular on a long line out fished on the deck, Hugh Crawford was on 8 , John Bennett on end peg 18 and Trevor Stanley on form peg 6. Elsewhere the other anglers were struggling to catch fish with Pat Pritchard on 23 having lots of fish up in the water but was struggling to get them in any numbers, Geoff Edwards on peg 26 was giving me a great demonstration of brilliant bites on paste but no fish in return.

On peg 30 my web partner Simon was claiming to a few fish on all methods so was quite happy also because his girlfriend Gemma { aka Mrs Mound } had not caught anything as there was no usual scream to be heard when she caught her first carp so there was no minxing to be had for him, and Paul Jay was doing his usual catch one fish lose the next three so at least he was keeping busy.

After about another hour i left Geoff to see a few guys around the lake and take a few photo’s and ended up at Gemma’s peg which was peg 4 and now she had caught two small roach but was struggling to catch any carp, a bit of advice on coming a little bit shorter in at about 5 metres seemed to sort this out as on her first put in had a carp of 13lb then lost one and then started to get more bites. I left Gemma having caught 5 carp and went around to watch Geoff for the last hour and passed Simon on the way around who was now sweating as he knew Gemma was catching him up and the chance of a minxing was deffinitley on so i have never seen Simon concentrate so much to add to his catch.

On arriving at Geoff peg he was now bagging as was Chris on 16 ,Paul on 10 Pat on 23 and John on 18 so it was going to be a good finish to the match as everyone seemed to into fish as the match reached the last few minutes, and as time was called it was difficult to workout who had actually won as Trevor on peg 6 had also had a good days fishing.

In first place today was eventually Geoff Edwards who after missing all those bites had managed to get the fish lined up by fishing the bush to his right and by using paste managed to get the bigger carp to 19lb to feed and after 5 hours caught 208-14 for another win { well done Geoff }.

In the battle for second place was three anglers Neil on 32 ,Trevor on 6, Pat on 23 and in the end only one fish seperated the three of them and after the weigh-inย Trevor onย 6 got the decision with 188-08 with Neil second having 185-00 and in fourth was Pat with 179-06.

As for the battle between Simon and Gemma this was also close with Gemma eventually having 6 carp and two roach for 61-06 and Simon then having to sweat for thirty minutes whilst everyone else got weighed in and when the scales arrived after two weigh-ins weighed 75-08 and this meant more to him than winning the match as he went off to do his victory dance { who said there is no love in fishing }.

MOG’s Marauders Match. Sun 22nd Aug 2010

Geoff Palmer.... MOG

A few of the Jinxsters had camped over after the BBQ so they could have a drink and travel back in the day-time. They woke up to find the car park buzzing with anglers fishing a club match at the lake. The club had turned up with half the number expected so instead of 20 anglers there were 10, they decided to fish in the big lake which left the little lake free ๐Ÿ˜

A plan was hatched by Geoff to run a small knock-up match on the little lake with John’s permission. A few of the anglers had to get permission of their other halves ๐Ÿ˜€ With permission granted 8 angler gathered to discuss plans for the day.

We all decided not to draw pegs but just simply choose a peg that we fancied fishing. We all chose our pegs and then decided to fish from 1pm – 6pm. We paid our peg fee’s and all put ยฃ2 in the pot to give two prizes for the day, ยฃ11 for most weigh and ยฃ5 for the biggest fish.

Everyone was set up and ready but with 15 minutes to go Geoff was summoned to go and have his dinner or miss out ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Me {Simon Mound} on peg 38
  • Malc, Julie, Crystal Doyle on peg 39
  • Gem Doyle on peg 1
  • Geoff Palmer on peg 3
  • Nick Williams on peg 4
  • Marcus Burgess and Liam Doyle on peg 6
  • Dai Thomas on peg 7
  • Mat Edwards on peg 8

We gave him an extra 15 minutes to come back and then I called the all in. Budgie fishing from peg 6 had decided that he fancied doing some coaching for the day. Liam Doyle was his pupil, Liam had already had a go on my gear on peg 32 last night and caught a nice carp and was eager to continue where he left off last night.

Liam Doyle with a carp from peg 32

Everyone started off fairly well catching fish apart from poor Gem fishing from peg 1. Mat on peg 8 had landed his first carp in 3 days having failed to catch one in the previous two matches. I was having a chat with John Bennett and watching the other fishing and decided to go and have a go, I fed 2 handfuls of pellets on the left hand bush on peg 38 and dropped the rig in. I had a fish on right away too followed by another. I also dropped the feeder under the bush as I fancied a go on the rod and had a few more from both the left and right bushes.

By this time Liam was shouting and had his first fish on and in the net. He was very excited to say the least ๐Ÿ˜€ Malc on peg 39 had had a few fish but he too was in coaching mode, his wife Julie was on his box and playing a fish ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Anyone who knows Julie will know that she does NOT do fishing and hates it…. well used too. After having a few goes over the weekend it seems she was hooked now. Julies run on his box was cut short by yet another Doyle wanting to have a go. Crystal was soon on his box and playing a fish much to the disgust of Gem who was still fishless.

Dai and Mat on pegs 7 and 8 were catching plenty of fish and Geoff was hooking lots of fish on peg 3 but was loosing them as they were foul hooked. Nick on peg 4 was playing the odd fish but seemed to be struggling. Malc had managed to get on his box and catch a few more and also went on Gems peg to catch one off her peg to prove there was some fish in there ๐Ÿ˜€ Gem did manage one of her own using the feeder rod.

In the last hour of the mini match Liam had been bagging up big time. He let out a very loud “YES” when he landed a fish that he had been playing for 15 minutes, a fish of 18lb 8oz ๐Ÿ˜ฏ and a new PB for him. This fish was closely followed by a 17lbย  2oz fish ๐Ÿ˜ฏ ๐Ÿ˜ฏ Not bad for a 7 year old.

I shouted the all out at 6-15 and Liam was jumping up and down with excitement having caught a lot of fish. Gem came round and had a go on my peg as the bush was alive with fish and was soon catching a few much needed fish ๐Ÿ˜€

We all packed up and got the weigh in done.

The star of the day was Liam who has weighed a massive 90lb 2 oz on his first 5 hour match and had also shattered most people’s PB carp. Well done Liam, I think even Marcus learnt a thing or two ๐Ÿ˜€

Everyone had a great day and would like to thank John for letting us fish.

Jinx Series. Final Match. 21st Aug 2010

This was the final match of the series and things at the top of the individual and pairs league were very close. Malc Doyle, Peter Morton and Clive Pritchard were all in contention of winning the individual title. Malc and myself were in the lead with the pair results but were closely followed by Clive Pritchard and Ade Williams so it was all to play for. The final outcome was to be decided in the final match of the series.

It was going to be a tough match today as the lake had suffered from low oxygen levels and the lake was covered in fish gulping for air on the surface Saturday morning. John Bennett had the aerators running and was also pumping water in to the lake to get some oxygen back in the water from 7am to just before the start of the match.

The draw today was at 11.30am with fishing from 1.30 – 6-30. As this was the last match some of the lads had brought along their better halves to attend the BBQ after the match. Some of the Jinxsters had fished the night match and had camped over at the lake ready for the last Jinx Match. Soon the car park was full of the rest of the Jinxsters and the draw was made.

Fishing today was similar to last night with a lot of people catching early on and then struggling for the rest of the match. The wind was very strong today blowing through from the big lake to the little lake.

Not many pictures today as everyone was too busy trying to catch a fish. Peter Morton supplied a few pictures, thanks Peter.

Down in the little lake Terry and Marcus were having their own little match fish from pegs 40 and 2. Marcus was leading the way until half an hour to go then Terry pulled out 3 weighers one after another to take the win from Marcus and overall match win too. Well done Terry.

Round the big lake it was all hit and miss. I had had a steady run of fish from the bush on peg 32 and then had no bites for an hour. Dave Moore fishing peg 9 had changed his normal paste tactics to fish for bream and while it worked for a while those pesky carp moved in and he was soon putting a few more fish in the net. Clive and Malc were having another little battle and it was a close one too with Malc just pipping Clive at the end.

With the match over we got the weigh in done quickly to give people more time at the BBQ and it became clear just how hard it had fished. The winner today was Terry and this was his first ever Match win so a Big well done to Terry ๐Ÿ™‚

Malc had again run an excellent series. I think the final match left everyone hungry for next year. Well done Malc. ๐Ÿ˜€ Well done to all the Jinxster for all the PB’s and Banter and making the series a great one to fish.

Some of the Jinxsters stayed over so they could have a drink at the BBQ and also travel back home the following day but there was a surprise in store when they woke up Sunday morning. More to come later…..
